source: hellgate osprey cam
More context:
the first osprey is the father, the one that comes later is the mother.
ospreys are not eagles, they're ospreys
ospreys only eat fish, that's why they don't register this starling as possible food
the starling got home safely
the starling was not trying to eat the eggs, it was mostly curious and you can see it trying to hop under the osprey every time the osprey tries to sit down again--this is because the starling is still a baby and has the instinct to get under an adult for warmth, even though it mostly has its feathers. this scares the osprey because that is a Foreign Creature near its eggs.
at the end of the video you can see the ospreys starting to turn the eggs. birds do this so the yolk and/or embryo don't stick to the shell of the egg, which is bad for the egg's health.
ospreys have eyes adapted to seeing beneath the surface of the water!

i think avoidance is such a little-recognized ocd compulsion. all the time i talk to people with ocd who are like "i was always having intrusive thoughts about using kitchen knives and harming myself or others but i'm okay now because i just stopped using knives ever 👍 so i'm good now"
and i'm like unfortunately i have bad news.
if you don't know why this doesn't work, the issue is that ocd never stops when you implement a compulsion. it evolves. today you've "solved" it by never using a knife again (and losing access to an important cooking tool, thus limiting an aspect of your life) but in a few months or a year it'll be that forks are dangerous too. and hey, isn't it risky to use the stove? avoidance will even begin to manifest in places you might not recognize.
the point is that OCD compulsions are never solutions, they're actually the problems. the intrusive thoughts SEEM like the problem and the compulsions FEEL like the solution. and that's how it getsya.

Disgruntled and confused porn users demanded the hard research data, so I went into the basement to find my dusty copy of Zillmann and Bryant’s book. It will take me a while to screenshot, caption, and post it all.
The two photos above reference a 1982 experiment which measured the effects of prolonged pornography consumption on test subjects’ recommendations for rapist prison terms.
Male and female subjects were divided into three groups and exposed to either 6 regular films (control group), 3 regular films and 3 porn films (intermediate exposure), or 6 porn films (massive exposure).
Three weeks later, they took a variety of questionnaires and inventories. One asked them to recommend the prison sentence for a hypothetical rapist. The chart above shows the difference in what they recommended by group.
Conclusion: both men and women exposed to porn recommended reduced sentencing for rapists compared to those in the control group.
Consider that in 1982, watching 6 porn films was considered “massive exposure.“
Also consider whether the judge and or jury members deciding your rapist’s fate may have watched more than 6 or more porn films.

Very difficult to make people aware of this because they think research studies that don’t link to pdfs are irrelevant.
research studies that are so old that you can’t find them online means that they are no longer viable lol your single source is from 82 😭
Fun fact, these guys and some of their colleagues in the 80s proved so conclusively that porn is harmful when used with research subjects that…wait for it…the research ethics boards wouldn’t let anyone replicate their studies. That’s why there aren’t any studies since the 80s where scientists purposely expose subjects to porn
What else you got?

I’m at my friend’s apartment in dublin. she’s been trapped in her bathroom for like an hour and maintenance just showed up with KITCHEN UTENSILS??? 😭😭😭😭💀💀💀💀
I’m giving them 15 more minutes and then I’m walking across the street to the conveniently located fire department bc he just tried to pry open this metal door with a kitchen spoon
he’s giving me attitude for asking for a locksmith. i was going to be polite for as long as we needed him as an ally but he’s run his use.
just realized he’s wearing a single latex glove. for why
like i know sometimes the most unassuming tools do the job but i cannot stress enough that he simply tried to pry open a metal fire door with it. he didn’t try to employ it on the lock in any way. the slotted spoon told me immediately this was not our man. pack it up chef boyardee
So what was it like having the fire department axe open the door
So what was it like

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
trees are very 🥺 because sometimes i’ll stand under the shade of a tree and look up at it and it’ll sway its branches about in the wind and i’m like oh my God i’m alive and YOU’RE alive. we are alive together and made up of the same starry stuff and standing right next to each other in this moment on this earth. do u feel it when i reach out and press my hand to your trunk? can you hear me? i think you’re so neat. and then the sunlight filters through its leaves just so and that lovely green color leaves me dazzled. it’s just very nice to be an alive thing next to a different sort of alive thing
“It’s just very nice to be an alive thing next to a different sort of alive thing” I’m in love
This post is ancient and stupid but I still laugh whenever I see it
