Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.

I was in a bookstore yesterday listening to a pair of incredulous older teens interrogate a 12-year-old on not knowing what the Holocaust was. And yeah, it's a horrible failure for someone that age not knowing that. But it wasn't her fault, and being pushed light that made her feel like it was her failing, and it certainly is not. The American educational system has been deliberately undermined for decades - this isn't a new problem and right now it's not getting better.

There's a lot of people who increasingly will not know things we consider to be basic. Give them some grace.
