I've been thinking a lot lately about how many trans women I've known who come to realize over time that they experience much more bottom dysphoria than they've consciously understood

I think this is partially a problem of trans women being fetishized, a trans woman's value being equated with her penis, but I think it's also partially a problem of availability. personally if something is difficult to attain then I have an internal reflex to unconsciously convince myself I don't want or need it. for this reason and many others it needs to be made easier

personally it's fucking crazy going through life not even being able to be naked around trusted loved ones or fully have sex because the dysphoria is so bad. it's unacceptable that so many of us have to live like this. it's horrible that for many trans women it's almost impossible to get the care we need. it does not have to be like this

can we please acknowledge that tma/tme is a meaningful distinction? a justice of the US supreme court is openly saying that it's legal to discriminate against trans women because the same laws do not target trans men. the transmisogyny is what makes it permissible. your transphobia is fine as long as it has carveouts for men.

since i posted this, many comments and tags have accused me of not caring about trans men's feelings. let me go on the record: they are correct; i do not care about men's feelings. i especially don't care about men's feelings when the US Supreme Court rules that categorical bans on trans women's participation in women's sports are constitutional, overturning precedent from multiple lower courts, and establishing a legal basis for weaponizing Title IX against us.

describing this as generalized transphobia flattens out the differences in how variously trans people are variously discriminated against. framing this as transmisogyny correctly focuses our attention on the ways in which discrimination which uniquely targets transfems is weaponized. there will no doubt be downstream effects felt by any number of transmisogyny exempt people, and they will rightly feel upset about the injustices they will experience. i do not want those things to happen, but they will and it will be bad and wrong when they do. but the first people targeted will be those least able to exempt ourselves from transmisogyny, those named explicitly in the majority opinion.

you'll pardon me for not sparing much consideration for future injustices when my sisters and siblings are already suffering, already being cast out and labeled as dangerous, things whose inclusion is a bourgeois luxury reserved only for when we have the time to weigh the complications and the nuance.

I'm sorry to put you on blast but every time I hear some variation of "why not both" the dismantling is pushed more than the transition, or annoyingly inserted into conversations about someone's transition.

"dismantling gender" is a vague, society wide thing that will require literal centuries of societal restructuring. Transition is a material thing that individuals can do for themselves now, to alleviate their bodily and social dysphoria. The entangling of conversations about the two is infinitely frustrating when I'm just trying to live my life.

i appreciate this thought a lot, and i'd love to add on with some restorative justice theory that came to mind when i read it. i think at the core of every campaign that is built around centering the perpetrator of harm (esp. a specific demographic) rather than the survivors and victims is built on carceral violence. restorative justice centers the survivors' needs and desires around the harm caused from the beginning to end. it does not center some nebulous punishment for the perpetrator or an entire group of one demographic of perpetrators that also just so happens to be the number one most vulnerable gender class that exists under our current systems (transfems, if it wasn't obvious). the rapejacketing and pedojacketing of the entire demographic of transfems in one project that centers doing that exact thing is neither subtle nor original, nor is it centered in any kind of real justice for the survivors of the harm that the project is supposedly built for.

it's why there's such a vast difference between the "transgender voices project" that looks for punishment vs. creating these digital support groups and projects like mousidy's transfem voices project that aim to make space for transfems to discuss and begin healing from the sexual violence and trauma they've faced at the hands of transmisogyny, a type of space both physical and digital that is sorely lacking compared to other demographics of SA survivors. if someone wanted to make a transmasc voices project that genuinely centered transmasc survivors of sexual violence, it wouldn't specify what kind of perpetrator they were looking for. it would be for any form of sexual violence, and it wouldn't be open to cis men.

having support groups and space for survivors to find community in the process of learning and healing their trauma is a good thing. getting support from others who share intersections of oppression with you is, on its surface, a positive thing. for fuck's sake, i think cis men could really benefit from a wider availability of support for speaking about and healing from sexual violence they face, because the patriarchy does heavily bar their access from things like this, and men perpetuate this in the ways they interact with each other socially. but a support group for cis men survivors of sexual violence would not be able to safely center only stories about being assaulted by women; that would be incredibly misogynistic and also alienating to men assaulted by other men. men who are assaulted by women should talk about it. in groups with other men who have been assaulted by anybody. men get sexually assaulted by other men all the time. there should probably be support groups for ex frat bros cuz i know those dudes have some deeply buried sexual trauma that they'll take to their graves and suffer their entire lives for it.

i will forever be suspicious and usually outright dismissive of any project that singles out one demographic as uniquely dangerous, especially when the targeted demographic is already socially disempowered to begin with.
