The Kids just aren't being taught how to write a cv or cover letter huh
I've seen ones today including photos, dates of birth, place of birth even!
And also several formatted like they were writing a message to a friend! Full of exclamation marks! This is a formal document!
this one is formatted like a powerpoint presentation. to be clear I'm not in charge of any descision making I'm just going through redacting identifying/potentially biasing info but like...some of these formatting decisions are also potentially biasing
Yeah, I remember getting some wild ones when I was hiring manager
So many women feel the need to mention their young children in their cover letters and CVs. Some young people slip in that they can't drive, a sort of pre-emptive "but it's okay I have a bus pass". So many people go and shove their mental health issues with anxiety and depression in there.
I remember one girl had clearly been told that she needed to explain any gaps in employment in the cover letter (terrible blanket advice), and so had described how she had developed depression after a traumatic miscarriage and spent a year in a terrible spiral getting worse and worse before getting on a new medication that, and I quote, "seemed to be finally starting to work." There are ways she could have written that information if she was desperately wanting to include it (I cannot stress enough that she should not have included a word of it), but the way it was written was almost literally a description of how she would be a horrendously unreliable employee who could dip out at a moment's notice and would never be seen again, while also demonstrating that she cannot determine appropriate professional communication.
(And for the record, the latter is the actual issue. I have no problems at all hiring employees with mental health issues, and did several times hire people in recovery to help them get back on their feet. Only once did that not work out; all others were amazing, and two became some of our best employees - one is now a manager there, in fact. But if an employee can't be trusted not to over share personal information with customers or colleagues, particularly triggering topics... That's a different issue. She did herself no favours at all there, and nor did whoever told her employers will always need employment gaps explaining in a cover letter).
Another guy once wrote in his cover letter "I want this job because after years of messing about I now have a little girl, so I need to sort my life out for her, and if I can't do it even for her then more fool me." Which, like, I admire the drive and passion. But again. Why are you telling an employer that you're a flight risk. Why are you telling us this.
One 18 year old volunteered, unforced, that he was gay. Just right in the cover letter. That he sent to a future employer.
And then, of course, the thousands that send in CVs and cover letters that are horrendously mis-spelled. Again, as an employer, I care dick-all if you're dyslexic or what have you; but I do care that you didn't think it was important to get someone to proofread a professional document for you before submission. That tells me quite a big thing about the level of professionalism I can expect from you in the role. It wasn't massively relevant for the job I was hiring for (escape room game master), but if we'd had slightly different job duties (e.g. writing official soc med posts), that would be the difference between getting an interview or not.
Honestly, half of my role as a hiring manager was just... having to explain to the other hiring manager that she was being biased based on information neither of us should have had in the first place. And she wasn't a bad person, but bias gets you even if you don't want it to. Give yourself the best chance. Don't fuck it by sending in a dumbass cover letter.
Linking @bitchesgetriches great advice on cover letter writing here...

Be careful princess 🌸
I just love that multiple people not only though “the black one is a princess and those are her bodyguards” but also came to the conclusion “they’re also, obviously, samurai.”
just saw a "only one bed" fic with the major character death warning
#i guess that's one way to solve that problem
“This bed ain’t big enough for the both of us.”
Just a silly crossover that wouldn't leave my mind
It is morally correct to be horny on main.
If we really want to fight against this puritanical culture that seems to be hell-bent on running sex workers off the internet and banning pornography wherever they can find it, you have a moral duty to post hole on main. Doesn't have to be your own hole but you got to post it.

Let's say I really wanted to reduce the number of children who die in car accidents. Car accidents are really bad, right? Nobody disagrees about that. And it would be much better for both the environment and the kids' health if they spent more time walking, or taking the bus. Perfectly reasonable. More cars off the road, safer roads, fewer kids getting hurt, healthier kids. A win-win!
Therefore, let's ban children from traveling by car and require all cars to have a scanner on the door that scans the government ID of everyone who gets in the car to make sure no kids are in there. After all, kids get hurt in car accidents all the time! We need to ban this right away!

Hi everyone!
They say that when it rains it pours and June suddenly has felt like that to us^^0
So good news first as to not alarm you! Kickstarter rewards have all been packed and we’ve shipped a bunch already so some of you should start receiving your packages soon, and the rest will follow soon after.
So what happened? Well, during the 14 weeks where people were allowed to update their addresses, the rules for postage changed YET AGAIN, so our plan to take a trip to Germany to ship everything was foiled x,D Cue us spending weeks emailing curriers and checking prices and options and we’re happy to say we found something that’s working, but boy that sure was stressful, but that’s not even the biggest hurdle we hit this month.
Steam removed Arcadia Fallen II from their store!
Yesterday, Steam Support told us they would remove the Steam Cloud category from Arcadia Fallen II because some players on Linux had reported an issue that we haven't been able to recreate or solve.
While doing so, they somehow managed to remove the "visible" tag from our store page as well, which means the store page is now gone, though you can still see the game's community hub, its DLC, and many other sub pages. But the page itself and the ability to buy the game has disappeared.
We've done everything we could to reach Steam Support, but they have this tendency to put you back in the queue when they think they are done with an issue, and we have no way of escalating the severity of our report ticket, so given their usual track record this might take days to be fixed.
What hurts us more is that this is doing the Summer Sale, one of the most important times of the year for an indie game. We also have no idea how this will affect future sales, as the Steam algorithm will now register a gap in sales and who knows how that's gonna affect things.
In short, we're really not having a great time, we're usually trying to keep our posting lighthearted here, but this is a very scary situation for our team as the sales for Arcadia Fallen II is what is supposed to fund the next game we are working on and Steam is our best selling platform.
We are very fortunate to be able to do this work for a living, and there are many indie games who do not make it, but if we were to fail as a company we would have loved for it to be due to us not making a profitable game, not because a billion dollar company cannot be arsed to pay for their support staff. We're not even mad at the worker who made this error. They are probably severely underpaid and overworked. We're mad that Valve put the staff in a situation where A this kind of mistake could even happen, and B they did not have enough staff on hand to respond quickly when it did.
To sum it up we're sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused anyone who wanted to buy the game, we've already had a few people reach out, and we'll keep you updated on how things progress. For now the game is still up on GOG and Consoles.
This might make shipping parcels a little slower as we are all very affected by the situation (I don't think any of us got any sleep last night^^0) so please bear with us as we navigate this crazy situation.
Thank you

Apparently Tumblr deleted my post about how the Virginia state flag is the only one with a visible boob? Which I was trying to find so I could reblog it with the addition that a Texas school district banned it because of the boob?
A Texas district pulled a lesson on Virginia from some classes over a topless Roman goddess on the state flag. Yep, really.
Well here, I’m gonna post it anyway. Hopefully no sex perverts will turn into cartoon wolves and make alarm bell and steam whistle noises

Schism? Schism today?
Wow, I didn't have "catholic schism" on my 2026 bingo card
Schism today
@heresylog
Just to be clear to anybody, especially in the USA because I know that Catholicism isn't as common there, this is not a cool rebellion against authority. While some traditionalist Catholics are purely interested in ecumenical things like the Latin mass, in the USA a significant portion of the movement for traditionalism is made up of violent antisemites. The "church's understanding of, and relationship with Judaism" they reference here is the idea that all Jews are not solely personally responsible for the death of Jesus
The Vatican responded Thursday to a traditionalist society that consecrated bishops without the pope's consent, declaring the Society of St.
This headline is missing some important nuance -- it's a headline, there's only so much they can do -- in that the Vatican said "this action you have taken excommunicates you." That is, 'we're not actively doing this to you, you are doing this to yourself, because we told you this was beyond the acceptable boundaries.'
The Vatican went way beyond what most of my Catholic friends expected -- they expected the bishops and maybe some priests to get excommunicated, but the laity and the nuns and... the Vatican has basically said 'bet, try it. See what happens.' (Excommunication, that's what happens.)
