people aren't even exaggerating indeed is literally like that. walmart attendant $13 an hour, target attendant $13 an hour, AI dick sucker $40 an hour, home depot attendant $13 an hour, guy who designs bullets that can only kill children $160k a year plus benefits, gas station manager $18 an hour
You need to stop threatening people with the sentence "you'll be disabled someday too!" as a form of advocacy; it undermines our advocacy.
For decades, this phrase has been used when addressing abled individuals who express bigotry and discriminatory views, as a way to appeal to their personal interest. But appealing to someone's personal interest doesn't always work when it's perceived as a future threat. It can even undermine our advocacy. Saying "if you get old enough you'll be disabled too!" doesn't encourage acceptance and inclusion - because for younger folks, that's not today, it's not *now*. Also, bigotry of disability isn't universal; wearing glasses due to a vision-related disability, for example, is very rarely stigmatized - in fact today it's perceived as more of a fashion accessory than an accessibility device. So when they think of disability, the image they hold in their mind does not even include everyone with a disability in reality - just specific individuals and disabilities. Consider how so many people wanted to say the r-word so badly over the past ten years (more specifically without consequence) and celebrated that they felt they could say it again without guilt. Saying 'you'll also be disabled someday' does not convey that they're going to be part of our community; it's a threat of a possible future, and does nothing to counter the stereotypes and myths inflicted upon us.
Imagine saying 'you too will be black someday!' to a racist; will that change their mind? Will they suddenly understand their privilege? Or will they take this as a foreboding threat of tomorrow, and react to preserve what they think they have over a minority group they deem as 'lesser'?
This idea that making someone realize being disabled will happen to them will soften and change their view is deeply flawed; if they're already bigoted, that will only push them deeper into that bigotry, because right now they're not disabled - and subsequently, they see themselves as better than you. Worse yet, when they DO become disabled, they will struggle with identifying as such, often turning to internalized ableism and desperation to find a cure or treatment to make themselves not disabled. So they support policies that remove accommodations, reduce or eliminate accessibility, and support quacks and con artists like RFKjr. You can't threaten people out of a bigoted mindset.
Happy disability pride to dissociative people, those with personality disorders, people with schizophrenia, and everyone elsewise labelled ‘insane’ and ‘crazy’ by annoying assholes. I hope you all have a pleasant & comfortable July and beyond
actually I think you should be normal about ordinary citizens of authoritarian countries and yes that applies even to that country you're thinking of right now
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
Finding out Hans Zimmer is a transphobe genuinely had me falling to my knees
Thank you blastybaku for explaining this!/gen
If you've ever heard a movie score and thought "holy shit, this is incredible", there's like, a 50% chance it was Hans Zimmer who composed it.
This is a pretty major letdown, ngl.
Anyways, fuck transphobes, which includes Hans Zimmer, apparently.
Anyway shoutout to John Williams, amazing composer and probably the one who made the other 50% of "holy shit amazing" soundtracks (Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Superman, and incidentally the original Harry Potter theme and score) who famously worked closely with the first openly transgender woman to be nominated for an Academy Award, Angela Morley. He respected her, and so far as I can see, has never made transphobic remarks.
What the fuck! Op must have been a prim and proper maid getting humped by a bratty perverted princess when she said this
Trans women are the same gender as cis women.
The amount of "allies" that get upset at that statement of fact is criminal.
additionally, trans women are the same sex as cis women
Sex as an “objective” and “scientific” means of categorizing people is misguided at best and an active tool of transphobia at worst. Saying that a trans woman is in a separate category from cis women just because she was CAMAB is twerf ideology in the dressings of science to make it sound objective and undeniable
If you don’t let go of your prejudices and past grudges, your heart won’t blossom. 2013 is coming, let’s make a change. We only have one planet so let’s show each other some kindness.

if you ONLY associate "men" or "masculinity" with negative stuff, then youre not gonna be a good ally to trans masc people. while some transmascs can experience gender euphoria from being associated with the negative parts of masculinity, its not really the best way to give them that. "wow, youre really a man cause <negative male stereotype>" might be funny and stuff, but imagine telling a transfem "wow, youre really a woman cause <negative female stereotype>". while it could give someone gender euphoria but its still a product of bigotry.
if you want to be a better ally to trans men and transmascs, you should probably try to appreciate good qualities of men and masculine people in general.
There was a brief TikTok trend of making videos like "When I get a bunch of messages because I said something in the group chat that triggered Bug (he/it/star/leaf)'s self diagnosed trauma."
I'm not the only one who just saw those videos as blatantly exorsexist, right? The people who posted them said they were just a joke, but it really came off as mocking the "weird" nonbinary people.
this is exorsexism and ableism
Taking tesosteron is not a transmasc experience
Taking estrogen is not a transfem experience
Wearing you first binder is not a transmasc experience
Tucking for the first time is not a transfem experiece
Phalloplasty is not a transmasc surgery
Vaginoplasty is not a transfem surgery
Top surgery is not a transmasc surgery
The trans community is more than binary.
i really wish boymom meant 'a multigender mother that also identifies as a boy/guy', not 'a misogynistic and incestuously abusive mother' : /
so many people ive known have pushed themselves to burnout trying to deny their disabled reality, skipping accommodations, skipping rests etc. and the world convinces them that the solution to their burnout is to push even harder. it’s a huge tragedy. i know social pressures make it tough but i want more disabled people to make things easier for themselves where possible, to opt out of things that harm them when possible, to quit while they’re ahead. be that person today! protect yourself where you can! take micro breaks while doing your hobby. get that shower chair. sit to brush your teeth. lie down in the middle of the day, even if only for 5 mins. these things add up and it’s so worth it.
happy disability pride month! ACCOMMODATE YOURSELF TODAY!
