a scene that really gets me is in episode 6 is where they’re all sat at the table and yuna says “oh but that’s sad” when they tell her they’re gonna keep their relationship secret until they retire and shane responds “yeah we know” like that just sums up the queer experience.

a lot of the queer experience is people being like “wait it’s actually crazy you have to deal with that” and queer people just going 🤷‍♂️ because it’s always been like that. it’s sad but it’s not shocking to shane and ilya that they have to hide because there is no other option. it’s acceptance by defeat because it feels like there is no alternative

everyone once in a while someone jumps into the comments of a tiktok about the haphazard wedding planning in tlg- specifically the lack of chairs - to explain that a lot of queer people literally do some type of BYOC bc they don’t know who or how many people will actually show up to support them & want to avoid a sea of empty chairs and everybody in the replies turns into Yuna from this scene. Like yeah it’s sad, but we already know that!

My wife & I had a ceremony with only our witnesses & officiant in the backyard and then had a handful of her siblings over to grill steaks & burgers and eat rainbow cupcakes and that was the whole wedding, and a big reason for that is that anything more formal or traditional would make my family’s absence painfully obvious. By the time we made it to the wedding, I just wanted to be legally married & get my name changed.

But fr the disorganized wedding was less a haha funny jock moment, how did Yuna not intervene & fix it, and more of they were outed against their will, were in personal & professional danger, didn’t know how many allies they really had, and wanted to get to the part where they were legally tied together asap.

the parallel drawn between ilya and his mom isn't meant to be subtle. she was so funny and beautiful. she was so sad. my dad was so hard on her. she would've loved you like i love you. so when ilya says he doesn't want shane to think she was weak, that line makes me want to scream. he has so much shame around his depression when it comes to shane. he doesn't want shane to think He is weak.
