Re-reading of Mary Cassatt's work Maternity (1890)

With a purpose to re-read famous artworks, I decided that I needed to repaint works that showed a little more of the female presence in art history. Cassatt was an Impressionist artist, who used to paint about women's private and social life back in that time, especially scenes depicting mothers caring for their children. I specifically chose this painting because of the *absurd* polemic that currently exists around breastfeeding in public places. Why would it be okay to have hyper sexualized female bodies in every corner, also okay to have male nipples for everyone to see, but still consider female nipples something obscene? Can't they respect our bodies at least at the babies' feeding time? Just leave the them be. It's past the time to stop wanting to control others body. É isto. ♡♡♡

Once I saw a writing prompt where Mermaids were the women thrown off ships when sailors got afraid because having a woman on the boat is bad luck. And as they sink to the bottom, legs tied together, they change slowly until they can breathe, until they can use their tied up legs to swim. And they drown sailors in revenge, luring them in by singing in their husky voices still stinging from the salt water they breathed. 🌙🔮

So, ever since I've been thinking about painting a cool witchy mermaid haha and decided to give her Willow Smith’s face, because she looks just as badass ♡ (and she reposted my art on her Instagram so I guess I’m freaking out haha)

Yes, it was a very lazy day sleeping watching some football matches and chilling out in large sweaters & no pants, so there you go sleepy Draco!
