Listen if you haven’t read/watched One Piece and you’re off-put by its length, don’t be. There are fan-edits to trim the length. The live action is two seasons of 8 episodes an hour-ish each so far and so true to the source material that it even managed to improve on it in one episode. The manga is a much faster read than the anime.

If you haven’t read/watched One Piece because you’re put off by it being a manga/anime of its era, then don’t be! One Piece isn’t Dragon Ball or Naruto or Bleach.

One Piece is the story of a group of broken people clinging onto their dreams and united by a silly little man whose sole purpose in life is to prove that your dream IS enough, you CAN fulfill your dream. BUT you have to take action to make it real! and if you need your friends to help you, that’s okay too! you’re enough! You’re still fulfilling your dream!

One Piece is about freedom and resolve. One Piece is about knowing the world can be a better place and doing everything you can to make it one. One Piece is about how to live and be free under tyranny. One Piece is about a goofy little guy who wants to beat the SHIT out of your oppressors and WILL fucking win.

Look, this post has been wildly more popular than I thought it deserved, apparently at least in part because "don't burden others; be independent" is far more ingrained in people than I realized. So here's the thing: society works when people help each other. Helping others gives people a chance to know each other, and gives them an investment in the people they help. Helping creates bonds. People enjoy helping, and you are doing a good by letting them help you if they so wish.

Offer help; accept help. You will be a part of creating a helping culture. Which, incidentally, weakens capitalism and the fractionation between people that benefits those who would use us.

Chat, is it considered “abusive roommate behavior” to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)

For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called “Princess Time” where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and I’d quickly clean that stuff up.

So like, if I’m expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed “trash” by the trash panda and thrown away.

I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
