for me the thing about pointless internet debates is that I used to like them when I was younger, but it was because I thought everyone was engaging them in the way I was ("here's a question without a meaningful answer! isn't that interesting? let's spend some time discussing why there isn't an answer") before I accepted that no a lot of people really do have a strong opinion on the definition of "sandwich" or how to pronounce "gif". the most common way to engage with them is to develop a strong gut-reaction initial opinion on the topic and then just stick with that until the debate stops trending. it's frustratingly uncommon to actually learn anything about why the ambiguity existed in the first place.

like idk this might just be me but I think learning about differences in perception or how some words are impossible to define is just more fun than getting performatively angry about it

I mean, as someone who as worked in a zoo, this is fairly true.

Obvious disclaimer that you shouldn't have wild animals as pets.

But like, cheetahs are the only large cats that keepers will do free contact with. Hell, even most small cats don't get free contact. (Because small cats can be VICIOUS. They'll have a baby pallas cat wearing thicker gloves than when handling an owl. Because small cats can just be vicious.)

Like I think the only other cat at our zoo where I've seen free contact with was servals? Because I know they've used servals in shows to demonstrate their natural jumping ability. But I know servals can sometimes have a mean temper as well. Meanwhile they'll do the cheetah run and afterwards put the mic by the cheetahs and it's just like an engine with them purring. It's fascinating to watch when the message in every other large animal is "no free contact because it's dangerous even when they're born in captivity".

Legit if any wild animal could be adapted to a pet it would be cheetahs lmao. Only problem is they can be skittish and very anxious and that's why they're often raised around dogs in zoos to gain confidence.

like i actually think the boys (2019) is a great example of an adaptation that thoroughly justifies itself, and it's not (just) because it turns a 2/10 comic into a 6/10 tv show, but because the boys comics were written in direct response to superhero comics, when those were the primary vehicle for the superhero, and amazon's the boys is being filmed in the post-MCU world, where what matters and impacts the culture is superhero films. it's a story that's worth jumping mediums with because it's a very mean-spirited takedown of a particular genre that's also jumped mediums, and the boys, like an action movie protag hopping across moving train cars, gives chase

like in general making care work dependent on sentimentality is a fucking bad idea lol, to some extent you can't really prevent the fact that people interacting with one another will probably feel some type of way about each other but esp when you are taking on a role where people depend on you for basic bodily care tasks, necessary medications, proper performance of potentially dangerous procedures &c it's not actually about YOU or your feelings at all & the more you make it into that type of ego trip looking for self satisfaction because youre soooooo self sacrificing and empathetic and you love your patients sooooooooo much -- the less you actually see & think about & serve those patients. never confuse personal fondness for evidence you are doing right by that person -- completely irrelevant & not at all protective against or mutually exclusive of abuse. people who are disliked or dislikable also need care! you signed up to provide it to them. if you cannot do bear to do that and do it fucking well then find a different job
