For context, the very mild mannered gentleman who looks like Count Rugen might if he got to enjoy retirement is Christian Cameron. He writes historical fiction, fantasy and science fiction, and does a series of videos on how to write accurate historical combat. He's an expert in this because he is a prolific re-enactor, and makes a lot of his own historical clothes using traditional methods. He ran a massive re-enactment in Greece last year, recreating the Battle of Plataea.

He's an absolute delight, the conversations you have with this man will never go the way you expect. And when I ask for promo photos from him, instead of sending me things like this:

#this is honestly how I initially thought hanahaki in fic worked #coughing up flowers for years because you won’t cop to your feelings? #that’s the stuff #the dying thing puts on really uncomfortable pressure for me #like ‘love me back or I’ll die’ is uncomfortable as hell for me #whereas ‘ADMIT YOU’RE IN LOVE YOU JUST COUGHED UP A BOUQUET!’ #hanahaki-suffering person: ‘no’ THIS IMMEDIATELY IMPROVES THE ENTIRE TROPE!  I had really disliked Hanahaki because it’s almost like the other person - if they’re a good person - is sorta blackmailed into either having feelings or being responsible for your death which is Not Romantic, but I can totally get down for FEELIGS made into an aggravating physical metaphor that you could potential deal with if you’d either confront them or get therapy or something.

Flash Sheith (Script) Fic

Inspired by a discussion over on @swordandsheithdiscord​ server, I’m very much into this idea that Shiro’s an island baby, possibly Japanese diaspora out of Hawaii.  It gives him a nice juxtaposition with Keith (as a desert kid) and gives him some common ground with Hunk especially, but Lance too.  And while I desperately need to finish Stolen Time before I actually pick up a new VLD project, I have this plotbunny taking shape…

While on “shore” leave on Earth, Shiro will disappear for weeks on end.  No one knows where he goes and the ATLAS crew has all these crazy theories of what he does on his downtime.  It’s so personal he doesn’t even tell Keith what he’s doing and he tells Keith everything so when he doesn’t it’s noticeable.  But Keith doesn’t press because if Shiro’s keeping secrets, there’s a reason and he wants to respect that.

But after a couple years, the paladins decide to go on vacation together to reconnect, having been drawn away in different directions as the mission evolved (Shiro, Allura, and Lance on the ATLAS; Hunk with the Alliance’s diplomatic corps; Pidge with the Garrison’s R&D division; Keith with the BoM). Earth is a sure thing, but where is the question. Organically, they start gravitating to the Pacific and the islands and when questions of where to stay come up, Shiro very quietly says, ”….I might know of a place.“

And it’s such a lovely little house, tucked away in this lush, tropical countryside and not far from the beach. The paladins are floored and ecstatic and feel like they can finally just relax together and reconnect. 

It takes them all a bit of time to put the pieces together, but Keith does it first…

As a writer and avid reader I am aware more than most that every good story has to come to a close, that eventually the author has to sit do

I know I’m no longer in the fandom, but in case anyone out there was unaware, or in case they haven’t had the chance to read this yet.

A truly lovely human has moved on to new adventures.

This is a fandom I always end up coming back to, but her stories were the ones that really got me hooked. I devoured every word, every short story, her arcs, every drop I could find, and when her works were moved to Ao3, I read them all over again.

Yes, it's tropey, and the stories show their age, but like she said, write it anyway, because no one can write like you. Write that cringey story, then write the next one, and the next, until you have mounds of stories, each one a little better than the last.

It only happens when you keep going, something I have trouble with, but even now, she still had one more bit of wisdom to share.

Her stories are some of the epics of the Gundam Wing fandom, arguably a must read for fans, and though she didn't have to, she still managed to give us something to look forward to this Christmas. I, for one, can't wait to read them.
