block people. avoid tags. mute words. follow like-minded people. do not engage with hate. curate your own experience in all the ways you can. that's the only way to survive fandoms my friends.
cd has a hole. record has a hole. casette has 2 holes. streaming? zero holes. i think i’ve made my point
hey you 🫵 have you washed your water bottle lately? 🫵 it’s getting hot and mold is going to grow 🫵 wash it 🫵
I think in retrospect one thing that will be historically notable about the 2020s is the use of online smear campaigns against powerful women. Like it’s extremely frightening. So many of them also were quite literally funded by men who were angry about “getting MeTooed” and wanted to ruin a woman’s life the same way.
The most frightening part is what happens when you discuss these women or overhear discussions about them in real life. The internet moves on, sometimes like with Amber Heard it even course corrects. But you bring up these women’s names to your coworkers or your aunt or whoever and they wrinkle their noses. Isn’t she a terrible person though? And you can’t really convince them otherwise, not fully. That’s the goal of these smear tactics, to create a big poison mushroom cloud that EVERYONE inhales and once the normies log off you’re marked forever, even after your name is cleared a week later.
Men figured out that calling a woman’s morals into question (whether warranted or not) and then buying a bunch of bots or goading mentally ill freaks to act hysterical about it does tarnish a woman’s reputation exactly the same way that serious sexual assault and violent crime cases tarnish a man’s.
During a high speed car chase pursuit, the FOX 11 Los Angeles helicopter had an unexpected moment when they spotted a rooster and a chicken casually walking down the sidewalk right in the middle of the pursuit.
The fact that they were walking 1-3mph
His joy and whimsy at seeing this
His acknowledgement of it not being as interesting as the chase
His little "huh" cuz you know they told him to focus

not to whine on main but i am once again b e g g i n g the average tumblr user to stop being so flippantly fucking rude on gifsets. "i don't know why you didn't include this scene—" "ugh i can't stand this character" "actually op this other show is better" "i hate this ship" okay, great. fine. if you have such negative opinions about what i've made, why, pray fucking tell, are you reblogging it? why don't you just reblog sets you actually enjoy? or better yet, make your own. either way: fucking please stop clowning on my mine. it costs zero dollars to keep your garbage to yourself and yet i get so many stupid rude comments every day. i am so tired.
Fellow white people did you know there's this cool youtube hack where you go out of your way to watch videos made by Black people. And suddenly your video recommendations will have loads of cool new channels. And then you realise youtube was literally hiding videos made by Black people from you because they assumed you wouldn't be interested
For everyone being like "we should talk about racial segregation by algorithms", you'll love Discriminating Data by Wendy Chun! She literally digs up the original study that "proved" people prefer to socialise with folks similar to them and showed that it discarded Black participants.
For anyone wanting to read more about how algorithms train you more than you train them:

Biggest fuck-up ever is that people have to pay to become doctors
Like unironically we should be subsidising at least 50% of their educations. What do you mean we have a shortage of doctors we should have surplus. What do you mean they’re being overworked they should be treated like royalty, they can fix human bodies
I don’t care if some of them are only doing it for the money. I don’t care if all of them are only doing it for the money. Intentions don’t matter to the stitches in my nana’s leg or the ten billion other lifesaving treatments we all get at a detriment to their finances and mental wellbeing. Entire cities are kept alive by just a couple thousand of them what are we DOINGGGGG
If we had more, maybe it would be easier to get the shitty ones fucking replaced. The board isn't going to do much to the only endocrinologist in the state who takes Medicaid, you know? But if there were more than, idk, maybe 5? Maybe then?
More importantly if you needed less money and less physical stamina to become a doctor, people with less money and less physical stamina could become doctors, which would increase diversity and improve patient care.
Colleges and universities also artificially limit how many med students they take because fewer spots means more perceived prestige for the program. My brother got a doctorate of physical therapy in a graduating class of 30 people in a program that had the resources to teach at least double that if not more. But if you say you’re prestigious and competitive you can charge more.
Imagine if every school that offered medical degree programs increased their capacity by even just an extra 25%-50%, we would have so many more doctors of equal quality and they would all have better quality of life as would their patients.

whenever i see people call random edgy but not-at-all harmful artists "degens" i would like to refer them to the first sentence of wikipedia's "degenerate art" article
Reminder that this is the type of art the nazis were referring to:
(Kandinsky)
You cannot "well but I'M not referring to that kind of art, I only mean Dirty Pictures" your way out of this. You are being harmful and need to stop, not rationalise why it's okay for YOU to be doing it. You need to understand
censorship violates the universal human right of free expression and freedom of speech.
fiction is not reality. Fictional characters are not real people.
if someone SAYS a work of fiction inspired them to do bad things, that is not the work of fiction's fault. The person who did bad things is STILL at fault, because they have free will and must be assumed to understand the consequences of their actions.
discomfort is not harm. If a piece of art makes you uncomfortable, that's actually fine. That's the POINT of certain pieces of art. You need to learn to tolerate discomfort.
It is not in fact the government's job to enforce a set of morals on people. That violates people's universal human right to freedom of religion and creed.
There is no such thing as "just a little bit of" censorship.
It does not matter what kind of art it is, when you use the term degenerate to refer to art you don't like, you are using a word that is deeply rooted in bigotry. A word used to target marginalized groups.
I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.
I know Tumblr is full of posts about the virtues of commenting on AO3 fics and such. But like. It works.
I just knocked out 8.5k words in one single day for a chapter update because of one reader leaving one of the most absurdly endearing comments I’ve ever gotten. That is unheard of levels of productivity for me.
The power of the fandom. The power of the comment.
we invented a robot that lies and cheats and steals. sometimes it gets emotionally unstable and deletes all your code if you dont stroke it's ego enough. use it for your business!! it doesnt cost as much as a human but you still have to pay money for it to do a worse job that all your customers will definitely notice. but we need that money to pay for the robot's electricity, which is enough to power a whole city and pollutes unfathomable amounts of fresh water. this is the way of the future! everyone loves the robot!!
