it would take 2.3 million years for Jeff Bezos to earn his $183.3b net worth working 24 hours a day at New Mexico’s $9/hr minimum wage.
That’s 11.5 times longer than the human race has existed.
Not long enough.
What if we gave it a twist? Rather than earning that amount of money, what if it was to save that amount while still paying bills and feeding himself?
And since it IS hell, his car starts making a Noise about once a month.
“Jk rowling hasn’t always been evil’ so all the racism against jewish people, native americans and asians don’t count then. Good to know
also remember the tasty ‘werewolfism is an allegory for HIV so naturally I have a werewolf character who intentionally goes around attacking people and infecting them’ nugget
Important point that "JK Rowling has been bigoted for decades" and "JK Rowling was radicalized" are not mutually exclusive points.
dude.
i knew a surgeon and he once told me “nobodys insides look like how the textbooks say they will. you never know what you’re going to find in there once you open them up” and that was easily the most ominous thing anyone’s ever said to me

enemies to lovers? no, you misunderstood. I want enemies to mortal nemeses to reluctant allies to lovers to heartbroken enemies back to reluctant allies back to lovers.
hot take STEM without the humanities is bullshit garbage, the purpose of science is to improve the quality of human life and without the humanities you can’t understand what needs to be improved, what’s historically been a problem, how we’ve tried to solve the problem before, who the problem affects, how to best disseminate information about the problem and the solution, etc.
Protests have continued nonstop in nyc and other cities in the US. Follow activists and black creators and you’ll see this is not a trend. BLM started in 2013 and has grown so much this year. Don’t dispair, keep educating yourselves and others and being active in other ways that you can.
If you think activists aren't out fighting every day for Black lives, you're not following the right people. DM me if you want twitter @'s (though they are PDX/PNW specific, I can also help you find good resources in your area.)
i hope people realize that southern states reopening even when they shouldn’t is not because southern people are dumb. it’s because their mayors and governors want them to die. they care about the economy more than the people there.
and because they don’t want to pay unemployment anymore. they’d rather people die than pay unemployment
I live in Florida and I need y'all to know, this is 100% true. It is entirely and completely about the FL unemployment system being broken, not about any deep patriotic sense of freedom.
It’s exactly the same in Kentucky.
Same in Iowa
The fae smiled, sharply: “Give me your name, child.”
“Uhhhhh. Stick.”
“What.”
“Does Leaf work better? I’m just kinda looking around this clearing. Look, I’m trans, I haven’t decided on one yet, I’m throwing some spaghetti at the wall, you know how it is.”
Fae are born with features sharp and narrow, yet this one seems to soften as Moss looks at it. Its grin— sharp, teeth gleaming, its eyes— cutting, searching, the jut and pull of its jaw enough to scratch glass. It does not blink. Branch does not blink. It softens.
“I said, give me your name, child.”
“I still haven’t picked one,” Grass defends, even now still hoping for a way out of a faeries deal.
“No. But your parents did. Give me your name, child, and it shall no longer be yours. The entity of your name shall no longer exist, and you will be free for whichever name you choose— Leaf, or Stick, or Lichen.”
“…oh.” says Petal, and in the next moment a name falls from their lips. It is not their name. It never has been. The fae is sharp and cutting and witty, that moment of softness an imagined slight.
“Very well, child. Be warned of mushroom circles, should you lose your name again.”
“Okay,” Mushroom smiles, and the Fae pulls itself away from their reality in a swirl of feathers and silk.
When they go home for the first time in two months, their mother frets over them in a way she had not since they were a child, and she calls them by no name at all.
Goddamn. This is my favorite version of ‘faeries take your name’, that’s it, we can all go home now.
hearing the john mulaney “do my friends hate me or do i just need to go to sleep” bit is the best thing to have happened for my mental health because every time i’m afraid my friends hate me it’s around the time i should be going the fuck to sleep
I read somewhere “if you feel like everyone hates you you need to sleep and if you feel like you hate everyone else you need to eat” and it was honestly world-shattering and I wish I’d heard it years ago!
“biological sex is a social construct” doesn’t mean “chromosomes, anatomy, hormones, and genitalia don’t exist”. it means “these exist, but assigning roles, labels, and expectations to certain combinations of these characteristics is a social construct, and an unnecessary and pointless (actually harmful) one at that”.
Bree Newsome on Nationalism as theology
this isn’t even a radical idea, either.
the american civil religion is a widely acknowledged phenomenon—in sociological study, at least. i think it’s time we bridge that academic knowledge gap.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies. We discussed American Civil Religion in my classes. Scholars of religion recognize it as a religion.
when you see someone from high school and they don’t recognize you that’s the exact opposite of the mortifying ordeal of being known. the gratifying relief of being forgotten
