PLEASE REBLOG THIS VERSION FOR PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY!!
I know calling can be scary for a lot of people, so here’s a script to help you and a rundown of how it goes:
After dialing Governor Kate Brown’s number, you get an automated message that says thank you for calling, and lists numbers you can press. Press 3. Then you record your message. You can read this out if it helps you:
“My name is [name]. I’m calling to demand that Saraya Rees be released from prison. She is a 15 year old girl who fell into a manic state of psychosis and poured a small amount of gasoline onto the floor as a cry for help. She was still in severe, manic psychosis when she was questioned by the police, without a parent or attorney, and coerced into making statements that were later used against her in court. She is in juvenile prison where she cannot see her therapist and her mental health is suffering. Please release Saraya from juvenile prison so she can get appropriate mental help instead of wrongful punishment.”
Don’t worry about how you sound!! The staff listening to these calls only care about the number of times someone calls about an issue. Not if someone stutters, sounds nervous, or anything.
And after dialing Senator Jeff Merkley’s number, you get another “thank you for calling” message. You don’t need to press anything, just read out the message after the tone.
Hope this helps, especially for people with anxiety!! Feel free to message me if you need to ❤️
