There is a direct correlation between kpop getting less popular (on a global/internet scale at least) and basically every other fandom space and environment getting significantly worse and less enjoyable but i will not elaborate over fear of being jumped

OH I HAD ANOTHER THOUGHT

especially on xitter the shift also correlates to when algorithms began taking control of everything we saw, so instead of seeing other fandoms posts it became just your fandoms’ posts.

Back in the early 2010s different fandoms used to fight constantly (personally i was at the front lines of 1D vs The Wanted). You do still see that to some degree, but what I think has become even more prevalent is internal fandom fights bc that’s all the algorithm shows you now.

Anyways I could write a whole essay on the changes in fandom in the past 15 years. I’m fully aware that this is partially due to nostalgia and seeing the past through rose tinted glasses, but man the general culture shift has not been pleasant
