His blood was burning for Jim, the fever rising the longer he was separated from him, but he couldn’t fall back on the instincts of his ancestors. Firing a torpedo while at wrap would be as unadvisable as throwing a spear at a sehlat that was carrying someone – it would only end in death and devastation.

After the spoils of the war have been divided between the allied nations, Lawrence returns to his former profession as an archaeologist, but his peace is interrupted by the arrival of a group of journalists.

“Yes?” he prompted when Bentley stretched the silence between them.

“Why didn't you attend King Feisal’s wedding?”

Lawrence's mind stuttered to a halt like a damaged locomotive. “Excuse me?”

“King Feisal’s wedding,” Bentley repeated, his beady eyes drilling into him. “It took place about three weeks ago, but according to records, you weren't there.”

Lawrence blinked, then nodded. “The records are correct.”
