Hey I can't sleep so I decided to make a Jew blog and return to tumblr.
I am a Jew who works at my reform synagogue. I am passionate about Judaism especially the philosophical and cultural side. I am also learning Hebrew right now thanks to my Rabbi paying for my classes!
The generalization of my politics is to love others and do as little harm as possible.

non-suicidal people often use suicide in a joking way, like “omg my life sucks i’m gonna kms!” then when someone actually suicidal says something like “oh i’m planning to kms soon” everyone laughs at them, tells them to ‘make it look pretty’ or ‘hurry up and do it’ instead of taking it seriously and helping them.
This is Suicidism. yeah sometimes people tell us it is less stigmatized now, but most of the time they seem to mean that people make jokes about it more, rather than it actually being non-stigmatized.
He's 100% right. People do think you're stupid if you have a speech impediment. Everyone laughed and called you a cringe lib or a "Biden deadender" if you pointed out it was pure, ugly ableism that made people think the normal symptoms of a stutter were indicative of cognitive decline, but yeah, it really was ableism the whole time
I mentioned before that I don't have a stutter, but I had another kind of speech impediment as a kid. Speech therapy helped a lot. I still trip over my syllables if I'm talking fast, nervous, upset, etc. I had to sit and watch people both online and irl who I'd previously respected throw all sensitivity and progressivism out the window because "lulz old man braindead because he talks funny." It made me realize that people still probably think a certain type of way about me when I need to stop and restart my sentences.
Oh, and notice the date: this video was taken on March 6, 2026. Everyone was claiming that Biden's stutter was clear evidence that he was braindead in July of 2024. And yet here he is, over a year and a half later, giving coherent speeches in public. And no one who shoved him out of the White House to lay out the red carpet for Trump's return acknowledges this or cares.
i think theres some kind of commentary to be made that while people assume that all trans men bottom with their front hole until told otherwise, people also assume that trans men who want/have penises must want to top. like the only reason a trans man would want a penis is to top and not because he otherwise has bottom dysphoria. i just think its weird that trans people with penises are expected to top and trans people with vaginas are expected to bottom. like guys..... we're literally trans, we should be past this

Except it turns out that you do have it. And so do a bunch of other people that you know (all according to formal diagnoses).
So maybe it's not as "rare" as you think it is. Maybe too many doctors are dismissing it as a possibility because it’s "rare" and not even actually checking for it.

this took SUCH a huge deal of unlearning because, like so many of you, i came out of a home where being quietly in trouble WAS the default state, and i DID grow up not just with the assumption but borderline religious conviction that Everyone Is Mad At Me, I Am Bad, I Must Exist In A Constant State of Attempting to Pacify The Natural Rage I Inspire In Everyone. and no it actually turns out that my family are the freaks . and yours are too

if the peacefulness of your relationship with someone (familial, romantic, friendly, anything) can be destroyed by effective communication/asking them for effective communication, you have got to get out of there. if you can’t get out of there, you’ve got to throw away any ideas about what that person thinks of you because they have their own shit to figure out before they can accurately read anyone else
we don't credit rebecca sugar enough for making the episode with the first gay wedding in a kids show extremely plot relevant so it could not be skipped or cut.
#rebecca sugar has gone on record saying that they knew from the beginning they wanted ruby and sapphire and they put every inch of planning#in to make sure that the studio could not take them out. sugar has said they’d compromised on hundreds of things they’d wanted for steven#so that they had the bargaining power specifically to keep ruby and sapphire’s relationship#and a number of ‘filler’ episodes were created just to establish counter-arguments that might come up when they pitched the wedding episode#the one that comes to mind is the episode about steven and connie getting lost in rose’s room steven’s central conflict about liking their#fave book series’ romantic ending was later weaponised when producer’s were like ‘oh but steven’s a boy he won’t be too interested in them#getting married’ sugar was able to be like ‘no. in this episode it’s established he loves romance and specifically weddings. and in these#episodes it’s shown how much steven cares about ruby and sapphire and their relationship and happiness. you cannot convince me this is not#good and necessary plot development#and they wrapped it up in the season finale and the big climactic point of the diamonds finally coming to attack earth to make the#episode integral to the series no skipping it without confusion. and had ruby wear a wedding dress because international censors took#advantage of her design to give her a masculine va#and sugar made certain that everybody knew This was a queer love story that an entire town supported and admired and that any child watchin#it at home would know they are not alone and that that support is waiting for them out there somewhere#sugar sacrificed the wider story they wanted to tell for that and it was a horrible decision to be given but they made the right choice
Throwback to the time my little sister asked me how literally everything was invented
things I’ve noticed in the UK:
- when you’re jay walking, cars will actively accelerate bc the drivers want to kill you for breaking the rules
- servers in restaurants act very scared and apologetic, so maybe people aren’t nice to them here??? or I could be terrifying
- it’s really cute when little kids have British accents, but I’m unmoved by adults with accents
- extremely good gluten free options. this country is like 20 years ahead of Canada in that regard
- people will give random insignificant buildings names with little plaques. and then that’s the name that shows up on the map. like even a smaller than average family home, you can name it like it’s a dog
- lots of brick and stone buildings. looks cute and charming until you enter one and there’s no air conditioning
- people are still wearing jaguar print. I like this. don’t let it die
ohhh okay! amendment: cars will actively try to kill you for being small and made of flesh, instead of cool and metal like them
I think we need to kill the sentiment that people lose their right to personhood once they do something bad enough
I don't know who needs to hear this but you need to stop dehumanising people even if those people are "abusers" or "creeps" because you need to understand that you are not immune to doing something equally as bad
Abusers and creeps are not some species of especially heinous animal or alien or monster wearing the face of a human. They're people. And you NEED to drill it into your head that they are people because you NEED to remember that people are capable of doingn heinous shit. And you are a person. And your loved ones are people.
By emotionally classifying people who have done heinous things as subhuman filth incapable of thinking and feeling and acting just like you and me, and by using that emotional dehumanization as a reason to deny those people any compassion or support on a systemic level, you risk becoming blind to abuse/violence perpetrated by someone close to you or even yourself. Because if "abusers don't deserve rights", then you won't ever want to admit or accept that you or a loved one is perpetrating abuse, and that makes stopping the abuse or preventing further abuse much harder. This is how you end up excuaing abusive behaviour on the grounds that, since you don't see someone as a disgusting subhuman pile of garbage therefore they can't possibly be An Abuser, Trademark
And here'a the even harder pill to swallow: since the world isn't split into "abusers" and "good people", in the same way you or someone you love can inflict abuse/violence on others, the people who HAVE inflicted abuse/violence on others can, in fact, change and become better people
There is no bottomless chasm of moral uncleanliness that someone can run off and fall into and get stuck in forever. People can do better. Yes, even those people. You HAVE to accept this. Otherwise not only is there no motivation for anyone to try and do better (which is when people become stuck in a cycle of violence and abuse they don't want to escape), but your idea of a perfect justice system doesn't look any different from Literal Christian Hell. And I HOPE you understand that Literal Christian Hell is, to put it very lightly, not a good justice system.
