Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters!
Librarian Brooke Rockwell encounters what she can call only a “freaky as hell ghost” at the New York Public Library.
Dr. Steven Hyde, professor of psychology and parapsychology, conducts an ESP experiment at Columbia University. Often, however, he uses his research to hit on college students. He doesn’t truly believe in ghosts or supernatural phenomenon, but he’s part of a grant with two colleagues – and friends – who do.
Dr. Eric Forman, also a professor of parapsychology and an paranormal history buff, bursts on Hyde’s latest experiment – and attempt to pick up the blonde who volunteered for his research.
“This is it!” Eric says. “ This is definitely it! Did those UV lenses come in for the video camera? And that blank tape? I need it. The one you erased yesterday.”
Hyde tries to shoo Eric out of the lab, but Eric won’t be dissuaded.
Hyde and Eric meet Dr. Donna Pinciotti at the New York Public Library. Donna is the third member of their group in Columbia University’s Parapsychology Department.
Together, the three of them interview Brooke Rockwell and search the library. They eventually discover what Eric calls a full torso apparition. Hyde can hardly believe his eyes, that a translucent old lady without any legs floats in the aisle ahead of them and is reading an equally translucent book.
“So what do we do?” Hyde says.
“We’ve got to make contact,” Eric says. “One of us should actually try to speak to it.”
Donna stares at Hyde. “Good idea.”
Eric joins her in staring at Hyde, and Hyde blows out an audible breath. “Why me?”
“You always claim to have a way with the ladies.” Eric slaps him on the back. “Have your way with her.”
Hyde approaches the ghost and says, “Hey, I’m Hyde. Where are you from … originally?”
The translucent old lady turns toward him, places a spectral finger to her lips, and shushes him.
Hyde retreats back to his colleagues and people he used to consider friends before they made him talk to that ghost. “I tried, man,” he says, “but I don’t think she’s into me.”
“Okay, I have a plan,” Eric whispers. “I know exactly what to do.” He guides Hyde and Donna toward the ghost. “ Now stay close, stay close.Do exactly as I say.” He lunged forward and shouts, “Get her!”
The translucent old lady whips toward them and roars as her human face transforms into a beastly one full of giant teeth.
Hyde, Eric, and Donna all bolt out of the library, ignoring the library administrator’s questions of, “Did you see it? What was it?“
