I think its hilarious that people who wanted Argentina to lose were blaming israel for them getting as far as they did at the world cup, whilst Argentina fans blame israel for them losing.

Israel didn't even qualify for the world cup.

People refuse to believe that corruption can exist unless jews are involved.

Because at the end of the day the world cup was corrupt. Argentina were allowed to essentially change sport and play UFC on the pitch with little repercussion, and Messi tried to get a Spanish player red carded for tapping his mouth, under a new rule brought in after an Argentinian player made a racist comment in a non world cup game (that said player then tried to defend by saying he didn't make a racist comment, he made a homophobic one). You also had trump interfering with the red card suspension for a U.S. player. You also had visa issues with the Iranian team.

However none of that was caused by Israel.

I know someone who used to work in childcare. They have a story they tell sometimes about a woman from our area. She'd left her kid to play in the grass outside the building she was running an errand in. She was gone for a short period of time, but when she returned her child was gone.

There was a search, of course. The child was never seen again. No trace of them, nothing.

She was convinced that her child had been abducted.

She refused to give even a passing thought to the river that lay less than five meters from where she had left her child. The shallow but fast river, with the white water rapids, and the rocks at the bottom. The river she left her preschooler playing next to. That river. The one that feeds out to the sea.

Even decades later, she was convinced that some malicious agent had abducted her child, and she wouldn't hear anything to the contrary. It couldn't possibly have been the river. The river that even adults still drown in. That was unrelated. Someone did this.

I think sometimes about various kinds of bigotry such as the blood libel, or the persistent myth that roma inexplicably abduct children. I think about that woman who was so confident that her child must have been taken, and I think about the River.

horrible fact: this is probably exactly how blood libel started.

i'm basing this off mark glanville's review of e.m. rose's the murder of william of norwich, which thoroughly summarises her argument about the case.

for those unaware, william of norwich's death in 1144 is generally considered the first case of blood libel. he was a young boy found with stab wounds in forest next to the city, which was close to the local jewish quarter.

but until a hagiography (life of saint) was written about him in 1150-2, his death wasn't really seen as suspicious. his uncle's attempt to blame local jewish people had been outright rejected by the sheriff nor was there any inquest, and rose argues it was probably an attempt to claim william was murdered, rather than died by his own hand.

but by 1150, the bishop of norwich was referencing william's death while representing a local knight accused of a murdering a local jewish lender, claiming that any accusations from the jewish community should be ignored until william's death was investigated. the knight wasn't found guilty, but there still wasn't any investigation of william's death.

so, yeah, unfortunately, families in denial about their children can do a lot of damage because of it.

Being bi and just recently figuring it out, I'm really starting to realize how much it pisses me off that it's somehow accepted in a lot of queer spaces to just write men off as unlovable. It's done to both cis and trans men, and tbh it's really fucking bothering me. Why do we put up with that? Why do we just let people write off almost half the fucking population? It's shit. Just cause it isn't a form of institutional bigotry like misogyny or homophobia doesn't make it right, doesn't mean there's a good reason to hurt people like that.

idk, I just think it's innately wrong to call anybody unlovable for their gender; didn't realize that'd be controversial. At the same time though, treating people as less worthy of care and compassion for something so simple seems to be depressingly normalized, so much so that I didn't always bat an eye at it.

It ain't right, yall deserve love too, and care, and tenderness, and affection. Don't for a second feel that you don't.

I've known a number of non binary people in my life and I think single biggest conclusion I can draw from that is that non binary people are not the same. Like if Men fit in box A and women fit in box B, people really, really want nonbinary people to fit in a theoretical box C, and it just doesn't work like that. They are outside the boxes. They defy any simple categorization because they are not a third way of being, but every other possible way of being.

Being supportive of binary people is relatively simple, they have decided to sort themselves into one of the boxes that we have lots of experience interacting with. Being supportive of nonbinary people can be comparatively tricky, because you have to resist the urge to create box C and drop them all there. That's how we end up with various prejudices like "woman lite". Humans really, really like to categorize things. It helps us think. Unfortunately, sometimes it helps us think wrong.

If you have a non binary person in your life, I think it is important to take the extra effort to learn about them specifically.

as a non binary person I don't really think this is necessary in fact I'd go so far as to call it "annoying." probably you should just stop making so many assumptions about the people who call themselves "men" and "women" also?

in practice i can often elide the "man" assumptions by presenting as visibly gay even without telling people I'm non binary. Like, no one who knows I'm attracted to men ever assumes I'm into sports gambling, even if they put that in the "man" box? somehow being not straight gets you degendered, which just shows how fake the whole concept of gender is.
