Googled something about quick hydration and it suggested big jug of water, couple tbsp pickle juice, dash of lime juice.
Its surprisingly tasty????
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)
-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt
-ayran: yogurt, water, salt, mint
-Agua pepino: water, cucumbers, lime, sugar, optional mint.
I have been reminded of:
-shrub: vinegar, sida water, elderberry (or other berry), sugar.
I have now been informed of
-sekanjabin: honey, vinegar, mint, water.
"Wow, I wonder why this post was popular this week."

the worst part of summer is that people get sooo comfortable expressing their disgust at having to see other people’s bodies. they’re always complaining about wrinkly old men at the nude hot springs or fat women in bikinis at the beach. I hate that shit. if you’re not capable of being normal about bodies you personally don’t find attractive, just turn your head to look at something else! and if you’re not smart enough to do that, then at least do the rest of us the courtesy of suffering in silence, because we don’t wanna hear your weird comments. thanks.
the issue with growing up in the 2000s and 2010s was like there was this really big push toward "accepting your weirdness" overall but they meant like idk wearing mismatched socks or something not being tangibly beyond the norm in any way shape or form
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!

With the rise of AI, and companies, investors and shareholders spending more than they should on data centres, it isn't them who get the backlash or consequences, it's us common folk; we are having to face rising energy prices, water restrictions, and water contamination, not to mention the health issues.
Early studies suggest that data centres have been linked to headaches, illness and even heart problems; we shouldn't have to suffer and face the consequences of these billionaire companies, thanks to the constant noise which people have recorded as high as 500 decibels.
In Ireland, which has recently become a hot spot for data centres, they're having to pay up to 21% more on their energy bills, and when foreign wars are raging, and everything already costs enough, we shouldn't have to suffer through high energy prices.
It's going to be a hot summer, thanks to climate change, and we shouldn't let these massive companies dictate more of our lives, and data centres can rise the ambient air temperature as much as three degrees, which might not seem like much, but a global increase of 1.5° c has resulted in dangerously hot summers, and us beginning to lose our winters. There is already a water bankruptcy, and our resevoirs are running low without this extra strain.
In the UK, we have a beautiful countryside, and wildlife, but it is fragile, with us losing insects which are deeply important, introducing AI data centres would strike at the heart of our country. We cannot let our forests, plains, moors, and protected land become more fodder for soul, art eating AI.
The UK government is daring to say that AI data centres are necessary for the growth of our country, when all they would do is feed foreign billionaires, run on dirty fossil fuels, rip the soul from our countryside, and cost us more. The government, and many political parties are willing to allow us to suffer for their money, but without us, they don't have power.
We don't want dirty data centres infesting our country, and if politicians want to win the popularity contest, they have to listen.
We should be allowed, to make decisions about our own counties to vote on, like a local election, the right to ban data centres. We should have the power over our country, not trillionaires, billionaires and millionaires who couldn't care less for our lives.

one aspect of the social media ban i think we really need to consider isn’t just that vulnerable people aren’t able to find positive connection online, it’s that e-safety likely isn’t going to be taught in schools because children aren’t supposed to be on social media, full stop. it’s like schools don’t teach people how to do drugs safely for example because it’s expected for people not to do them at all. and what this could mean is that even the people who could have been fine if told properly how to responsibly use the internet, that when they inevitably find a way to get around the ban, they’re at even more risk because they don’t know what to look out for.
If you adamantly refuse to even hear an opinion or point of view that differs from the one you've been taught to believe, you don't actually believe the one you've been taught. A genuine conviction doesn't waver from something as flimsy as mere exposure to disagreeing ideas. If you fear that hearing an idea that deviates from the "right" ones might make you accidentally adapt it, get the two confused and forget which one was the "right" and which one was the "wrong" idea, and get rejected by your peers by accidentally echoing the wrong kind of thoughts, you don't actually truly think that the things you've been taught as right are right.
Not because you would somehow deep down secretly think that the "wrong" ideas are "right" and the "right" ideas are "wrong", but because you simply do not actually think at all.
Kinda like parents who are worried their kids being exposed to outside ideas will turn them down the wrong path. Well if it's that easy, it sounds like your propaganda just sucks and you don't really trust it. Let that shit run free in the marketplace of ideas if you're so convinced you're right.
The goblin shark had only previously been seen when caught by fishermen and they died shortly afterward.
So this is what a Goblin Shark actually looks like…

Would you want scammers to know the state of your loved one's dementia?
Oh. Shit.
I think a lot of people were raised being told that things are bad with no explanation as to why they’re bad and I don’t think I know enough about psychology to make any big statements about that
but anyways I think a lot of people see cheating on your partner as bad because they were just told that sex outside of your partner is bad or something but really cheating on your partner is bad because you had an agreement based on trust with them and you broke that trust so like why should they trust you with anything else now

The main reason I’m pushing for people to stop using the term ‘pedophile’ and instead use the term ‘child sexual abusers’, is because since all discussions of child sexual abuse focus on this idea of an evil person who is just out to get kids because they are sexual attracted to them, it makes it hard for kids who where sexually assaulted by people who don’t fit that description to realize they were sexually assaulted.
It didn’t register for me until recently that my experiences of being forced to strip naked multiple times at the mental hospital to be ‘checked’ when I was 14 was sexual assault, because the people who did it were nurses/doctors who clearly didn’t find me sexually attractive but instead used it as a form of humiliation and control towards children they deemed as ‘unruly’ and ‘uncooperative’ (ie. children who asked to be treated like people). I thought only people who fit into this idea of a child attracted pedo could be child sexual abusers, so I thought my experience didn’t count.
Stepping away from the idea that there is a pedophile boggieman and instead highlighting that anyone can be a child sexual abuser will help more people realize that their experiences are sexual assault.
my stepfather would openly sexually harass me and my siblings at dinner while also loving the fantasy of killing pedophiles. whether he personally found our abuse sexually gratifying was frankly irrelevant to whether it traumatized us. whether he would be considered a pedophile or not doesn't change that he committed sexual abuse of children
I think in his mind there was a type of horrible person out there who does horrible things, and because he didn't think of himself as fitting that category, his actions could not be judged
