imagine looking at a world with a magic system that runs partially on emotion and looking at the guys advocating for healthy emotional regulation and going 'man, those guys are repressing their emotions', knowing full well that the guys who don't emotionally regulate tend to default to murder and torture to solve their problems
do you ever start writing a comment on the internet and then think “oh what the fuck am i going on about” and delete it
I also enjoy writing an entire paragraph, thinking "you know, I don't actually need to be involved in this conversation," and deleting it
And then there's the opposite. You think 'hmmm, I don't really need to be in this conversation and aren't really compelled either way' but then again that just means you can have fun with it
I feel like a bit of an asshole for saying this, but here goes.
I do not give a shit about my cultural heritage. I don't know much about it, it doesn't compel me, and while I do recognize that it means a lot to a lot of people, it never really mattered to me and it still doesn't matter to me.
I dunno, it's like national pride. I didn't choose this, what is there for me to be proud of? I just live here. I care about this country in the same way I care about keeping my house clean. Same thought process, y'know? I was just born to these people. I care for them sure, and I'll respect their culture, but I personally don't particularly have any attachment to it.
It's... something, seeing loads of people care about their cultural heritage while I'm over here not even getting why it's a big deal (emotionally, I mean. I get it intellectually, but I'm not feeling it).
how are watersports a kink ive been hear about it recently and its so confusing?? how is something as oddly specific as watersports a kink are you attracted to jet skis? water skiing??? DOING IT on a boat? am i missing something

I have to admit, I’ve never understood or liked the whole “Wards are child soldiers” statement that floats around the Worm fandom. Like…even putting aside how often it’s repeated both in and out of universe that the Brockton Bay Wards are the exception and most Wards don’t see nearly as much action… they’re still not child soldiers???
Teenage cops, sure. I wouldn’t personally agree (because the Wards have more oversight and accountability than your average American cops do) but it’s not an entirely inaccurate comparison. They are essentially hybrid cops/firefighters.
Child soldiers, meanwhile…no. For one, Wards aren’t forcibly conscripted into service. It’s a choice they make- not a completely free one, but a choice nonetheless. They get paid, they get healthcare, they even get to choose if they’ll attend certain fights! It just makes no goddamn sense that people keep saying this when on every level that comparison is just not true.
The Wards program tends to get a lot of flak (well the PRT/Protectorate does in general but that’s a separate convo) in the fandom- and it’s an odd mix of people saying either the Wards program is terrible because it forces kids to fight people (it really doesn’t) or because it doesn’t let the kids fight more people with less oversight and restraints on acceptable levels of force.
It’s weird!
that's what happens when the main POV character has a problem with authority that bleeds into fandoms interpretation of the main antagonistic authority (at least, early on) to the character. and then that view gets validated, so. um. whoops.
i don't think incest is actually an ethical issue at all and just weird, at worst. like, on it's own. grooming or pedophilia is a whole nother thing, but like, at that point it's the grooming or pedophilia that we hate, not really the incest?
and i am saying this as someone who does have siblings. im not inherently against having sex with my siblings, if sex were something i felt anything about. you cannot and should not make moral judgements based on if someone wants to fuck someone related to them.
if you find it icky, fine. but like. that's where you draw the line? at some point, the only difference between your friends and family is that you happen to be related to some of them, and like. that's basically no difference at all.
i hesitate to say this next part- but i also only think it's weird in the same way that some people think same sex relationships are weird. in a 'doesn't compel me and i don't get it, but sure' sort of way, that really isn't harming anyone if you do it right/safely. idk, i just think most people wouldn't be able to elucidate why they think incest is repugnant without defaulting to 'but it's incest' or using an explanation that should also apply to something else that they find completely fine

Mermaid witnessing a werewolf transformation by the beach and believes all humans are like that. Pirate: ahoy Mermaid: awooo? Pirate: a what
Pirate: [digging up treasure] Mermaid: no… bad boy… bad… no diggy hole… [sprays water] Pirate: what the fuck Parrot: what the fuck
She thinks the parrot is just a transformed human too.
Love how the mermaid, whose home is presumably underwater, knows absolutely nothing about humans but does know about The Spray Bottle.
#can you imagine seeing a mermaid on a rock and she just fucking#throws her head back in a perfectly wolven howl#in the middle of the fucking ocean
“oh no we need to practice for our fake dating” is the funniest trope to me cause like. there are so many people who force themselves into a shitty relationship they hate just because of amatonormatiivity that it’s an ingrained part of popular culture to joke about hating your partner.
which is to say, oh my god you dont need to hold hands and go on fake dates, you don’t even need to agree on a single detail of your cover story beforehand. you can literally stand 6 feet apart at all times and look profoundly uncomfortable and all anyone will think is “yikes™. not my problem”
actually people should address this in fanfic more because “i know we could half-ass it, but i would never fake mistreat my fake husband, how dare you” is absolutely delightful
New trope: fake dating for spite.
“Look, my only goal here is for our pretend relationship to be demonstrably healthier than Aunt Rita and Uncle Carl’s fifteen year, three child marriage - which means the bar is so low we probably can’t fuck this up”
#i think this is honestly the backbone of the appeal of the fake dating trope (i am a fake dating enjoyer) #the reason why the characters put so much unnecessary effort into the fake relationship tells you so much about them #does the idea of being someone who doesn’t really care about their lover disturb them? do they secretly care a lot about their fake partner #are they a person who needs to do everything well and with care even when it’s stupid? do they just commit REALLY hard to the bit? etc etc #ADDITIONALLY another main appeal of fake dating is the characters going ‘wow this is really easy and working really well for us’ #‘our fake relationship looks (and functionally is??) better than uncle carl’s 15yr marriage’ #‘which probably means nothing. i will not think about this in depth for at least another three chapters’ #you get it. you understand. i am sorry for the in-the-tags fake dating manifesto (via @river-gale)
The reason for the fake dating can lead to a lot of fun nuance here:
trying to trick friends/family requires the relationship to be believably similar to previous relationships the characters have had - so pretending to be toxic sludge suggests … some unfortunate similarities to Uncle Carl. This is all about who other people think they are.
undercover fake relationships are usually designed to be believable to the mark(s), but also something the characters can maintain for an extended period - this is where the choices made tell you SO MUCH about who THEY think they are.
panicked lie fake relationships are hastily assembled from the characters real reactions to each other and the comedy of errors around how those lies fall apart. Once again, you learn a LOT about them, but this time it’s about who they UNCONSCIOUSLY are - what they fall back to when they’re panicking, or distracted.

Alright, I think I like tumblr now.
A pun post crossed my dash, and I reblogged it with an equally bad pun in return. A couple of my followers find it funny, it's a good day for everyone.
That was on July 7th.
Virality on Reddit was entirely algorithmic. You could garner a couple crossposts, but the success of a post was entirely dependent on whether or not it hit r/all--the main page of Reddit. If your post does that, it's immediately exposed to 10x the number of people and immediately gets upvoted.
On my pun post, I get a couple reblogs. And those reblogs get a couple reblogs--nobody really adds any content to the post, it just gets a couple reblogs here and there.
There's a specific chain of reblogs that I'd like to focus on. The most popular post on this chain has about 25 reblogs on it. Half the posts have three reblogs or fewer. Five posts in this chain have just one reblog total.
But the reblog chain keeps going. And going. It breaches containment many times over. And finally, after a chain THIRTY SIX posts long, at 9:30 AM, July 22nd this morning, it hits a popular account.
99% percent of the people who have seen the post--virtually unchanged from how it left my dash--have seen it because it was curated by 36 different people. That's insane to me.
None of those 36 people know that they're part of this chain. They saw a post, reblogged it, and moved on. If any one of these people had not reblogged, the post would have a fraction of the impact it has.
And yet, after two weeks, the post has effectively hit the main page of tumblr. It was picked up, only because people liked it enough to show it to their followers. There were no algorithms necessary.
You really, truly, cannot get this on any other website.
Reblog the reblogging post.
Like to ignore its wisdom.
whenever i complete chores i get an achievement banner pop up in my head dark souls style
someone should go write a star wars fanfic highlighting the fundamental incompatibility between mandalorian culture as described by everyone who isn't New Mandalorian and the Jedi. just to make a point about how the fics that go 'oh the jedi and mandalorians actually have loads in common' instead of it being just like, 'oh yeah, these two cultures have their members really care about each other. like the majority of the galaxy does'. i'll give them the beskar and lightsaber comparisons though. but lightsabers do actually have magic bullshitTM while beskar is just superstition so actually no
Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.
It's not r*pe, it's rape. It's not su*cide, it's suicide. Not unalive, dead. The backbone needs to be reintroduced en masse because softening the blow of these concepts with advertising language does absolutely nothing but allow people unaffected by them to feel not even a sting of what they can do, prompting inaction.
And it's been proven that on certain websites, you don't even face a repercussion for using the words as they are. People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers which is so nasty itself.
I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.
i can’t lie this is the realest shit
