If nobody ever explained this to you, if someone you see a lot does something you like and you never ever tell them that, they might think you donāt like them or donāt like the things they do for you.
If you like your sisterās cooking and have never ever told her that, she may very well think that you hate her cooking. If you like it when your friend drives you places and you never ever thank them, they might think youāre not grateful even if you are. If you like it when your partner does this or that thing for you they wonāt know that unless you tell them.
Tell people in your life hey thanks for driving me, that was a great dinner, I like your singing, thanks for helping me with that. They donāt automatically know that you appreciate what they do.
š¶Show appreciation! For the small things!šµ

and you know what? i am REALLY sick of these ads that are openly mocking people for being concerned about the products theyāre selling.
Amazonās super bowl ad where the Alexa mocks Chris Hemsworth for being worried about giving spy software control over his entire life. Waymoās ad with the intro āthe robots are coming!ā mocking people who are rightfully extremely concerned about sharing the road with, or riding in, self-driving cars.
i donāt know, itās just genuinely insane to me. āOh, you have legitimate concerns about our shitty product? sounds like youāre just lame!!!ā like what kind of āquiet part out loudā marketing is that?
so this post blew the hell up ā which is iām sure a sign that things are very normal and fine and none of us are remotely frustrated by this kind of thing ā but itās given me time to think about how to articulate the SECOND thing that pisses me off about these ads, which is that they donāt even bother to address the concerns.
i feel like any normal ad would go, for example, āi know youāve heard that this shaving cream might give you cancer. but it doesnāt! and also it smells nice!ā
but THESE ads mock you, and then go āanyway, your concerns are invalid because our self-driving cars that run over children at crosswalks have heated seats!ā
it reminds me, in a much less comical way, of that scene from Emperors New Groove when the angel and devil on Kronkās shoulders are having a debate, and the devil goes ādonāt listen to that guy, because look what i can doā and then does a handstand. Only these are real-life commercials. That they expect you to take seriously.
I think it's so funny how we bred JOBS into dogs. I have two shih tzus and they were bred to be lap dogs. All they care about is looking cute and cuddling with people. Meanwhile my grandma has a border collie and that dog needs to feel so useful all the time, he acts like he will pass away if he doesn't have a job to do constantly
On one hand this is extremely fucking funny, but on the other hand, it really boggles my mind how many people punish their dogs for just⦠doing the thing they were bred to do.
Your husky isnāt āhyperactiveā, itās bred to pull sleds for 8 hours straight and you have it in a 400 sq ft yard.
Your English sheepdog isnāt āpushyā, itās bred to herd sheep, and you have neither to space nor the herd to allow it.
Your terrier isnāt ānippyā, itās bred to kill rats and your hamster looks a hell of a lot like one.
Your Catahoula isnāt āmean to animalsā, itās bred to hunt any and all animals smaller than it, and you didnāt acclimate it to your cat.
Your Lhasa Apso isnāt āyappyā, itās bred to bark at any tiny noise and alert watchmen to intruders
Like Jesus Christ, if you canāt provide an environment where your dog canāt fulfill its literal life purpose, maybe?? Donāt get that dog??? And if you do, maybe know the breed characteristics so you can redirect those traits into more constructive outlets????
Both your most common doodle's parts (labra and golden) want to hunt and retrieve water birds so the best suggestion I can give y'all is congratulations on your new duck hunting hobby.
#people will overlook the perfect breeds to suit their needs based on just their looks#and get a work dog because it looks cool

Any time someone sees Herschel and says "AWWW I want a Corgi <3" (because he is Very Cute (TM)), I immediately reply: "Do not get a Corgi unless you have a job for it to do. They were bred to bully livestock across the hills of Wales. This is basically a Border Collie that knows he is cute enough to get away with murder. If you get one and it doesn't have a job, it will apply its livestock-bullying instincts to YOU. Herschel's job specifically is to help manage my crippling ADHD, because I don't have a bull for him to micromanage." This gets me odd looks at the home depot but it does get the point across.
My uncle is really into warhammer and would win every miniature painting competition he was in. I have not very steady hands and he saw me messing up my nail polish for prom. He sat with me and carefully painted my nails and that moment meant so much to me all these years later.
my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this

Working an office job will truly make you have the wildest enemies, bc why is my nemesis rn a woman Iāve never met and who exclusively haunts me by sending diabolical emails, and also a specific guy who left my company before I even worked here and made the system so fuckass that it ruined procedures for like a year
Yesterday my nemesis (woman Iāve never met and whose face Iāve never seen) sent my office an email so rude, basically saying we had fucked up every project she ever ordered from us, one of the worst emails Iāve ever read in my life.
And it pissed me off so badly that I spent the ENTIRE WORK DAY today compiling evidence from every project my team has ever done for her, pulling past emails sheād sent us, putting together an entire case proving that she had been the problem all along. That she got projects mixed up, that sheād made requests that were nonsensical, literally everything you could possibly imagine. Screenshots of emails, reports weād submitted, EVERYTHING.
This woman in particular has been terrorizing my team for years, her name is almost a slur in my office, I had simply had ENOUGH of her.
I put all of this evidence together and sent it to all of my bosses at 4:30pm. Then I took a long break to eat a sweet treat and drink some tea.
After my break, my bosses all called in an emergency meeting with me and they said they read my report and fucking loved it. And I sat on a teams call with my bossā boss as she wrote my nemesis the scathing email I had always fantasized about sending, using the evidence Iād compiled, and hit send.
It was the most satisfying workday Iāve had since I got hired.

āThis month, Finland launched the worldās largest sand battery, enabling residents to remove oil from their district heating network and reduce emissions by nearly 70 percent, as reported by Euro News. If it continues to operate as efficiently and affordably as expected, sand batteries could become common worldwide. Developed by Finnish company Polar Night Energy, this battery uses excess clean electricity to heat sand to high temperatures, storing thermal energy that can later be released to heat homes and power local industries. This is not Finlandās first sand battery, but it is significantly larger. The facility in Pornainen is an insulated silo that stands 13 meters tall and 15 meters wide, containing 2,000 tonnes of crushed soapstone. The sand retains heat remarkably well, losing only 10 to 15 percent during storage and recovery, according to The Cool Down.ā
ā
Sand batteries are a significant advancement in clean energy technology.
Holy shit, this is incredible.
āThis new facility can hold 100 MWh for about a month in summer and a week in winter. Ā Thatās enough for the town of 5000 local residents.
TechCrunch estimates the Finnish batteryās costs are under $25 per kilowatt-hour, compared to around $115 for leading lithium-ion batteries.90% efficiency. It doesnāt use any ārare earthsā or critical materials. Ā Instead using locally sourced, recyclable materials.Units are scalable and modular to fit different needs and uses.
Suits small towns (like the current facility) and large scale industrial uses.
13 meters tall and 15 meters wide. Independent of geography. Ā
No supply issues due to any geo-political problems.
Designed to store energy when itās cheap and plentiful and supply when itās expensive.ā
