We talk a lot about how like, fandom in general has extremely piss poor reading comprehension, but I'm not gonna lie, the case I've seen in Amazing Digital Circus is frankly fascinating.
Like, I'm not the biggest fan of TADC, I thought it was fine, but it wasn't what I would call subtle about its themes. TADC exists very firmly in the Millennial Adult Animated series subtype, which means it looks like a kids show, while being about adult emotions, and also states its ideas extremely clearly. There's a bunch of these (BoJack Horseman and Rick & Morty are the big ones in my estimations). They are extremely direct and very blunt, which is in my mind just a neutral statement. Directness is neither positive nor negative
So here comes this show, which spends a huge chunk of its runtime explaining how basically all of the characters are damaged and need to accept themselves to heal, and then spends a MASSIVE chunk of its double length final episode detailing how its biggest piece of shit character became the way she is via a mix of self loathing and fear of her own identity, culminating with her begging the main character not to love her, literally indicating that she believes her own actions have made her irredeemable, AND THEN the whole show emotionally climaxes with said main character embracing her, choosing to love her anyway...
And a bunch of y'all seem to be champing at the bit to find new ways to punish her. Honestly y'all fascinate me.
XD
But yeah: this isn't only/REALLY religious; it's political. It's political because the "Protestantism" Brazilians are talking about, which their players are "converting" to, is the same "Protestantism" which supported Bolansaro's wicked regime and provided foot-soldiers for his attempted coup, which in turn is the same "Conservative Evangelicalism" bringing white-supremacy and fascism to the US today under the Republican party, which is In Reality merely The Republican Party picking up a bible and calling itself a religion.
These Players are caping for the SAME ANTIDEMOCRATIC, AntiEgalitarian, Pro-Aristocratic Beliefs that Brazilians kicked out of power 3 years ago, whether they know it or not. They're caping for Global Christofascist Conservatism, whether they know it or not. They're caping for US colonialism, Anglo colonialism, US domination of Brazil, and the FANTASY that their football skills -hard-earned over a lifetime of training and play- are actually in-born signs that god loves them more than everyone else.
And that, in the end, connects to them losing: they believes they didn't need to win the tournament themselves, that god had promised them the victory and would deliver it to them, so they didn't take it seriously and they got beat.
reminder that protestantism was popularized in brazil and in latin america as a whole by the cia as a way to counteract what they considered more progressive catholic church ideals during the cold war btw

I think the logic here is:
>we save people from fires
>fires can kill anyone, including queer people
>we also save queer people from fires
And in an age where paramedics legally refused to save the life of a trans car crash victim, thatās an important sentiment to state

Disability is a Racialized Concept
āThe relationship between Blackness and disability is especially important to investigate, because it explains so much about how we ended up where we are. Just like prisons and policing are related to slavery, so is the way we think about disabilityā¦(Dustin) Gibson discusses the 1840 census, which was the first time there were questions about both disability and race
That census says that the majority of free Black people were āinsaneā and āidioticā, to use their language, while saying that the majority of people that were still enslaved were sane. So itās creating this idea that to be free and Black, and to have the urge to want to be free and Black, is deemed to be a mental illness.
There was even a medical diagnosis for slaves who had the overwhelming urge to run away: drapetomania. This shows that medicallization has always been a tool of white supremacy in the United States.
Raceāand specifically Blacknessāhas been used to mark disability, while disability has inherently āBlackenedā those perceived as unfit. Black people wereāand continue to beāassumed intellectually disabled precisely because of race. āWork in the Intersections: A Black Feminist Disability Framework by Moya Bailey and Izetta Autumn Mobley
In other words, white supremacy means that Black bodies are seen as inherently disabled, and disability is inherently bad. Ableism and racism are often used as pretexts for each other, which is why itās so important that we use for the intersectional approach that disability justice calls for.ā

Because sometimes we all just need to see a guy head-bump a beautiful Beluga whale
Note: that is not a lumberjack!!! Most likely it is a domesticated marine biologist, possibly a domesticated fisherman, (you can tell because it has been clothed in wool, which stays warm when wet, so it is is clearly well cared for).
While this may be appropriate enrichment for your DOMESTICATED and WELL TRAINED marine biologist or fisherman, please remember that lumberjacks may be tame, but are not domesticated. They are still wild, and they absolutely will freak out if they see you swimming around in their forests.

I have access to a computer again! With a keyboard! And so I can share with you one of the mystical experiences of hanging out with my wife. We passed this old looking, panting dog one day while walking around mainstreet, and I made some kind of comment about how that dog looked a little worn out, and this GIANT guy walked pass, like, karate chopping the air he was walking so fast, and he said in a kind of mad voice "It's BEAUTIFUL," and then he grabbed a leaf off a tree and ate it. All without turning back. We watched this giant hulk of a man just continue ripping down the street while chewing so aggressively we could see it from behind. Anyway, I wrote a poem about it.
A dog stands still upon the stone,
The heat has killed all trace of bone
It droops like produce left to rot
It cannot play: It is too hot
I pass it with my wife and say
āThat dog has seen some better days,ā
A man strides past, his head held high
His voice like thunder from the sky
āItās beautiful,ā he says quite frank
His voice is calm, his face is blank.Ā
I turn to see who spoke so free
(I like when strangers address me)
He does not stop, he strides on past
If timeās a thief, he runs too fast
For it to catch him with its jaws
He does not care for natureās laws
I consider then, how time is brief
How soon our love can turn to grief
Then as I watch, he eats a leaf
Guy was at least 6'3 and walked like this it was amazing
