I was fortunate enough to see Peaky Blinders The Immortal Man in the theater. Before the movie began, there was a voice over by Cillian Murphy. He reminded everyone that we were fortunate enough to see it in the theaters, but that others would have to wait until March 20 to see it on Netflix and asked everyone to please refrain from giving spoilers By Order of The Peaky Blinders. If the star of the movie, the main character, and quite honestly as fans of Mr. Murphy, I think it would be disrespectful to go against his request. A little food for thought for those giving spoilers even with a header , even with a warning, the actor himself asked people in the theater to not give spoilers. True fans will refrain and the rest who give spoilers , well I guess they aren’t real fans and don’t respect the artist who gave us the gift of Peaky Blinders. I will respect the artist and be grateful that he gave us Tommy Shelby.

Okay one last post about this before I disengage for my mental health but I’ve seen at least three different posts saying something along the lines of: sorry your guys were laughing along to misogynistic jokes with the president but my special guy would never do that. And like. That is the opposite of the takeaway we should have here.

Like the reason this is hitting so hard is that Jack was an outspoken supporter of pride nights when they were banned, they both have vocally supported the women’s team, they have personal relationships with them even from training together over the summer, Jack said Keller is who he thought of almost immediately after scoring. And it. Doesn’t. Matter. Because at the end of the day they’re all complicit in hockey culture. In conformity to the norm that is being sexist and homophobic and racist as jokes. You don’t get to that level without being part of the in group and you don’t get to be part of the in group if you’re not both comfortable with laughing at those kinds of jokes and also making them.

So idc what your special player has done or said in public they almost certainly would react the exact same way as all of these players did. And that’s not to say that you can’t continue to support them, but if you’re telling yourself any other hockey player as an individual is better than the Hughes brothers you’re only setting yourself up for the exact same heartbreak. I guess my point is the takeaway here should be not to put any of these on pedestals, not that we put the wrong men on pedestals.
