we all need to take better care of our selfs or we might Pass away
there is so much to unpack in this clip
Transphobia is about to be signed into law in the UK. We can fight this.
I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the Mass Lobby at Parliament on June 25th, 11am-4pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.
Last year we broke the record for an LGBT+ mass lobby of Parliament. Will you help us break it again? Join us on 25th June 2026 to demand be
The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or donât pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
There's this thing where people will (correctly) identify a lack of something in a certain social sphere. And then. Sort of. Default to believing that the lack is due to internally imposed Censorship behavior from within the social group. And start trying to fix the issue by attacking people who aren't actually causing the thing. And then get frustrated that it's not working for some reason and accuse the people they've self appointed as Those In Power of hiding stuff or interfering with their efforts to uncover the truth of why something is being hidden.
And all the while the actual cause (structural context of this conversation) continues on.
Like I just think a good amount of people who call for kinks to be examined or whatever seem to have forgotten the state of the modern internet at large? Which is probably easier to do if you're not kinky or otherwise a group being targeted by this sort of censorship! But like. Homie you haven't uncovered a conspiracy, you've... noticed that things are bad. Structurally? Please just attribute it to that first.
In the sense of like. Yeah so if someone is talking about their kinks but doesn't "seem to have" examined the broader social positionality of them. According to you. That already might just mean they don't owe you that but frankly. Let's say they do. Let's say you are owed an explanation of why people are into what they're into, by default, and also you need to be allowed to check whether it's bad. Okay. So. You've noticed people will have a kink but not write essays about it where you can see.
Clearly nobody understands this needs to be spoken about! How dare! They're just telling me to fuck off! They're clearly hiding something--
Where. On earth. On the modern internet. Can someone "examine" their reasoning behind having a rape kink. In a way that's allowed and won't be inevitably reported to hell and back or at minimum subject to harrassment telling them to delete it. Where on earth are you even imagining that you "should" be finding the things you're allegedly looking for.
"nobody is talking about this I've discovered-" I suggest you. Check out a library. There's a whole field of beautiful research called sexology. It might be more cooperative than the Tumblr blogger who doesn't know you and also doesn't want to unleash structurally supported backlash against themselves just because you said so. Ya know.
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointeeânot a career expert or peer reviewerâto ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people existâthrough its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processesâcould be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to âsupport the notion that sex is mutableâ and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitationâhospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that itâs worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the presidentâs agenda.
What this means, and if anything Iâm under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
Bringing back this guide to writing an effective public comment. This gives you the basics you need to know, what you need to include, a basic outline you can follow, etc.
Public comments are not a vote, it is a chance for you to say "here is an issue with this law I think you need to address" and provide justification for legal challenges if it goes forward:
"Comments raise the bar that agencies have to meet when making a rule; âif an agency fails to adequately respond to significant, relevant comments in a final rule, members of the public may seek to challenge the rule in court on that basis and claim it could be struck down.Ëź"
But also, if possible, don't stop at writing a comment. Don't stop at calling your representatives. You should ideally be talking to people in your community about this and organizing resistance on-the-ground; there is a good chance people are already doing that even if you aren't hearing about it.
Also, please keep in mind, this is 100%, without a doubt, wholly unconsitituonal. They will try to enforce it regardless, but that does not make it legal. Do not treat this as law because it is not.
wistful
We're not leaving this gem to languish in the comments:
Chat, is it considered âabusive roommate behaviorâ to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)
For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called âPrincess Timeâ where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and Iâd quickly clean that stuff up.
So like, if Iâm expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed âtrashâ by the trash panda and thrown away.
We havenât done since we moved into the house, because I didnât want to cause my roommate or their cats destress or have their things destroyed by a raccoon
I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.
Those vibes are likely because Iâm the original creator of Dashcon and my personality has not changed since 2012 lmao
Let me settle the 'is it fetishism and is it bad?' debate once and for all:
Being attracted to any kind of body is normal. Fat bodies. Trans bodies. Disabled bodies. All normal. Being extra attracted to a specific kind of body is normal too. Totally normal to have a type.
Not unlearning the societal stigma attached to those kinds of bodies, the people who inhabit those bodies, and the people who fuck them, to the point where you do any of the following:
Only want to date/fuck the person in secret.
Reduce the person to the feature that you desire and ignore the rest of who they are as a person.
Expect the person to be a walking porn fantasy instead of a real person with their own sexual preferences and boundaries.
Would no longer love the person if the stigmatized aspect of their body changed.
Consider yourself superior to the person, think the person should be 'grateful' that you love their body, etc.
See the person as a temporary adventure while planning to eventually settle down with someone whose body isn't stigmatized.
Is bad and harmful and you shouldn't be dating anyone until you've worked on your shit, because this makes you a very terrible partner. This doesn't mean you are a bad person with bad-fetishist-desires who can only desire people badly, it means you need to unlearn societal stigma so you can be a better partner to the people you desire.
Thank you for coming to me ted talk.
To those responding to this with "Finally I as a privileged person can relax about my attraction to this marginalized group!": Sorry but no, you can't.
You, like us all, were raised with ableism, fatphobia, transphobia, racism, etc. and unlearning that takes a lot of work and is never fully complete. If you aren't checking yourself, noticing your internalized bigotries and making sure you're not putting that shit on your partners (and dates and one-night-stands), then you are probably being a bad partner. It you aren't making sure your partner & others feel comfortable calling you on your bigotry because you know you will always listen and won't get defensive, then you are probably being a bad partner.
'You are not a bad person who can only desire people badly' means: you have a responsibility to be a good person and to do the work that's needed to be that good person.
I thought I needed a new laptop but nope, youtube is slowing down your PC if you have adblock on on any open tab...
To be very clear about this: CPUs aren't magical devices that can operate forever. They generate heat. They wear out over time. This happens faster when they're operating near capacity. This is not just an attempt to inconvenience you; this is an attempt to damage your property.
For the "crime" of not wanting to be tracked/have ads pissed into your eyeballs 24/7.
Even if you've paid for the "privilege" of the latter.
Fuck Google, and I hope they get sued into oblivion over this.
i see everyone in the notes talking about newpipe but nobody's talking about youtube alternatives for desktop
IF YOU USE A DESKTOP PC OR LAPTOP, TRY INVIDIOUS
https://invidious.io/
it is a free, open-source alternative YouTube front-end. in addition to not having ads, it has other great QoL features like a download button. try one of the several instances on that link up there ^^^^
so i was super pissed and concerned about this but i have just discovered that while this is true, it is apparently only true for google chrome users. i just tested this by having ten tabs open in firefox playing ten different youtube videos at the same time and my cpu usage spiked to 25% as the videos were loading and then dropped back down to 10% as they played.
if you ever needed another reason to switch to a different browser, this is it.
Little girl teaching her cats how to draw a flowerÂ
(via)
theyâre? just? sitting there ???
it makes it 100% better that i canât understand her, i feel like iâm hearing what cats hear
Heh, sheâs speaking Portuguese! Hereâs what sheâs saying:
*baby voice* â⊠and if you have any questions, just ask me! And now⊠yeah. And now you draw the roots. You draw them all twisted up! Got it? A flower? Now draw it. Did you get it, Luis Roberto? Did you get it, Jurandir? Look. Did you get it? Thatâs how you draw a flower.â
Luis Roberto and Jurandir are people names (Jurandir is especially a name associated with older men) so itâs extra funny that the cats are named that, heh.
the world's smallest carnivore is called the "least weasel" đđ i'm dying but like if it's the smallest carnivore then it sure is the least amount of weasel you can have đđđ
Look at him: this is absolutely the least amount of weasel you can have
To really put it in perspective
Immediately I love him
I feel like not enough people realize that people under enormous strain act really really fucking Weird
There was a parenting-kids-with-trauma book I remember running into around 2010 (I was not and am still not a parent, but I am an older sibling) that had a lovely little slogan I like to quote all the time:
âItâs not about the Cheerios.â
This was in reference to a story about a kid flipping the HELL out into a full-blown panic about running out of their favorite cereal. Not a tantrum, not a whine-fest, but an all-hands-on-deck, code-red, world-is-ending blowup.
The kid had originally come from a very unstable situation and experienced food deprivation. The new adoptive parents were stumped, because look at all the other food! Youâre safe! We can get the Cheerios tomorrow!
But it wasnât really about the Cheerios, it was about that first flicker of unease triggering all the old trauma. From the outside, it looked ridiculous. To the trauma-trained reaction of the kidâs brain, it made perfect sense.
Human brains are weird, and weâre all out here trying to survive. Sometimes our brains do this in socially acceptable, convenient ways. But not often.
(The book was titled âBeyond Logic, Consequences or Controlâ I think, Iâll look it up and edit this in a bit.)
every 14-16 year old is the bravest person on the planet to me
talking to a 15 year old like wow okay you are like if scrambled eggs was a person. I don't know how to save you. the way you move through the world is reminiscent of a stray cat whose soul got punted into a human body. said human body is currently undergoing changes and floods of hormones that would result in cities being levelled if you were perhaps a big dragon and not a medium sized primate. been there. good luck I love you
you don't have to excuse the behaviours of shitty teenagers, but you DO have to remember that they've been on this earth only as long as your cat. you have to ensure that the way you respond to said behaviour reflects this. yes they're an entire person. they're also going through a period of the most insane rapid transformation (physically, mentally, emotionally and socially) a person can experience in life. are they an irredeemable monster or are they just a very impressionable young person floundering through their first Strong Opinions based on what they've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in their bloodstream?
YOUNG TEENAGERS. are YOU an irredeemable monster or are YOU just a very impressionable young person floundering through your first Strong Opinions based on what you've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in your bloodstream? I'll give you a hint. it's the second option. cut yourself some slack too! try your very best to be kind, try your very best to consider people with differing experiences to you, and maybe take a step back from discourse that does nothing besides make you upset. you've only been an animal alive on this planet for a decade and a bit. there are artisanal cheddars at your local supermarket older than you. take it easy. eat more fruit. save up for a second hand bicycle. join a local club. it's impossibly difficult to be a teenager but you have it in you, whether you're aware of it or not. I hope you can be kind to yourself, because you DO deserve that kindness. kia kaha [:
