Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
Idk shit about Game of Thrones but
Apparently the shows last season is so bad that the r/freefolk subreddit kinda just
Decided they were done with GoT and just
They just kinda
Chose a better series
I kept wondering if I should post this but fuck it, I’ve read enough about him to know Stan would have loved it.
The story goes that there was a magazine that wanted to do a story about Marvel Comics, and the reporter showed up with a photographer to shoot some images to use in the article. Someone cracked a joke about doing nude photos, and one of the other artists couldn’t even finish jokingly refusing before Stan Lee was taking his pants off.
He was very saddened that Marvel put the kibosh on the magazine using this photo of him naked with a giant-sized Batman Vs. Hulk comic preserving his dignity. I like to think this is how he’d like to be remembered. Especially the sunglasses.
Stan Lee was a marketing genius, a showman, a storyteller, he was flashy and he made a lot of really…strange business decisions, he made one VERY strange musical album, and he worked for Marvel Comics in one incarnation or another for over seventy-five years. He held some opinions I wouldn’t agree with, but he did a lot of good, too.
He never thought of comics as respectable but he did think of them as important and that’s how I think of him: a flashy weirdo, but an important flashy weirdo.
He chose Stan Lee as an alter ego, like many of his creations. He was saving his name, Stanley Lieber, for the career as a novelist he never quite got around to having, and in the end he said he was proud of Stan Lee.
May your name be a blessing, Stan.

My library only has one discworld book (rising steam? I believe is the name) my question is should I start with that one? Or wait until I can get another?
Oh no, don’t start with that one. As much as I adore Moist Von Lipwig, you’re catching Terry at the tail end of his Alzheimers and his writing was decreasing rapidly by that point. (Still a fun story, just not the best place to start.)
If I were recommending a starting point, there are several ways you can do this.
I tend to point people in one of five directions, namely:
Do you like dragons, crime and concepts of social justice and righteous rage? Sam Vimes and the City Watch books is your man, start with Guards! Guards!
Those books give you a real feel for the city aspects of the story, which is rather important if one is going to enjoy the Moist Von Lipwig arcs, which start with Going Postal. (Monstrous Regiment also benefits from having read the Watch series first.)
Do you prefer women heavy narratives, social justice, rural settings and raw powerful magic? Then the Witches arc would be a good place to start, either with Equal Rites, or with Wyrd Sisters.
You could also start with the Tiffany Aching series, which starts with The Wee Free Men, but I feel it’s kinda nice to know who the older witches are to better understand the importance of their appearance in the Tiffany books.
Then there’s the Death arcs, which start with Mort, which is the book Terry himself used to tell people to start with cause that was kind of when he started to get the hang of what he wanted Discworld to be.
I find breaking them down into those arcs helps to make the process of reading 41 books more manageable :)
Hope this helps!
We won't see another opportunity like this again. Let's seize it.
um guys?
canada is currently considering banning imidacloprid, which is apparently “one of the most widely used bee-killing pesticides in the world”. this seems pretty huge, so if you’ve got two seconds, add your name to the list! as of posting this link, they need just over 8,000 more signatures by february 21!
@allthecanadianpolitics
I DON’T CARE IF YOU’RE AMERICAN PLEASE REBLOG THIS SO THAT OTHER CANADIAN USERS CAN SEE IT
COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ME
Update August 2018: Health Canada announced that it will ban major bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides clothianidin and thiamethoxam. And with an earlier announcement of the planned phase out of imidacloprid, this means that the most commonly used bee-killing neonics will soon be off Canada’s fields. Now our attention turns to making sure we stop using all bee-killing pesticides in Canada before the corporations like Bayer tries to overturn the ban.

WOW I LOVE THIS
Oh my god.
You guys. This picture book that just came in.
It’s an adorable story about a little “narwhal,” living with a narwhal family under the sea, but take a closer look.
Over the following pages, Kelp struggles to fit in. Kelp is different in so many ways; nothing ever feels fully right. Eventually, by pure chance, Kelp happens to get blown off by a stray ocean current and winds up on the ocean surface, where a remarkable discovery is made.
Um. Wow.
And despite their nervousness…
Hurray! And then the question:
I’m dead. This book killed me. So much perfectness was never to be survived. Kelp, I love you.
(And you, too.)
And yes, I realize that it could just be a lovely story about a narwhal, not a metaphor for anything bigger, but isn’t that the beauty of all the best sorts of books?

Okay chaps. Here we go. This is for all the people (and yes, there was more than one) who requested Obi-Wan in an oversized/soft sweater (dog bless you all). I threw in the additional suggestions of PJs and a cup of tea for good measure because I appreciate efficiency, and I also appreciate all of you.
@deadcatwithaflamethrower
