Heya! I go by the name Lumi, am 30+, have ADD, and am neurotypical. I'm happy with any pronouns. I'm best known for drawing pink art of the Baldur's Gate 3 cast stealing the heart of my favorite original character.

This is what I tried to explain to US platforms like Patreon when they suspended my account for having a nude statue as the background image: I live in Europe, I can go and see a nude statue within a 5 minutes walk. Children can see them, they're not in some 18+ container. I will never understand those policies.

I recommend Element; it's very similar to Discord and has basically the same features but it's privacy-focused and both servers and DMs can both be encrypted so only the actual users of those rooms can read the messages.

This means unlike most popular chat apps, including and especially Discord, Element doesn't sell your conversations or tracking data to advertisers, because the company literally doesn't have access to that data in the first place.

I've used it for years and I think it's a natural fit for Discord users.

The problem with this is transferring YEARS of Discord usage to these new alternatives. Until a tool is made that allows full back up if not transfer of All That, then transitioning to these alternatives isn't feasible for the baseline everyday user.

The problem with Root is they don't allow adult content of any kind!

Straight from their community guidelines:

Sexually Explicit Material: We do not permit pornographic or gory content.  

If you don't want to be able to share adult content, there's no point in even leaving discord.

Once again, I recommend Revolt (which has changed its name to Stoat.)

I've also been looking into Stoat. It doesn't offer as much functionality as Discord, but it's setup in a similar way and the community guidelines are pretty sensible for the time being. But they are experiencing a glut of traffic atm thanks to Discord shitting the bed and some people are having issues getting signed up. So be patient with it, it's a very small team of devs trying to get it off the ground.

We are still looking at options. I've heard just enough ill about Revolt / Stoat that I haven't wanted right away to start using it but so far of all the alternatives I've tried it's the one that offers the best chance of getting some approximation of the Discord experience back. I'm especially worried about the availability of options to interact in a *plural* fashion. Discord allowed that in a relatively facile manner thanks to its bot API hooks and the PluralKit / Tupperbox bots which made use of that capability. Will I be able to get back anything like that, jumping to XMPP or IRC or whatever else? At least I know that there's some option of that sort with Revolt / Stoat. ~Chara

everytime i look at my art and i feel bad about it , i remember something an older art teacher told me about when they were fantastic at using coloured pencils but couldnt use oil pastels -----

every medium is different , and requires a different skillset . pencil is not the same as pen , pastels are not the same as paint . though we can bend them to act like the other , they are completely new skills and understanding . and mediums are always getting invented .

if i see a 19 y/o and i get style or rendering envy , i remember - they grew up with digital art . meanwhile i was a realism and still life oil painter when i was their age . i only moved digital when i was 22 , ive only been at it for just over 5 years . and i moved to a completely new subject and focus too . that teacher grew up with coloured pencils and used them for decades to get to where they were , oil pastles werent easy to get ahold of till they were much older and thus she didnt have the skill-set developed as much . i'm older , and i've always been real poor , i pads werent what they are now when i was young . yes there were options but i got my first laptop at 17 . ive still to learn the skill set and its gonna take me a little longer . but man ... i'm making progress .
