So, those updates to Spider's wearables, huh?

what if the very place you existed in loved you so so so much it kept you confused on purpose so you spend more time in it so you never ever left
look outside is great bc it’s a beautiful story about the importance of kindness and what it means to be human in the face of inhumanity with incredible uses of both body horror and cosmic horror, but when you look at the fandom it looks like a dating sim starring an unemployed 35 yo man and his harem of monster stalkers. which it also kinda is.
I think. Perhaps. Given what we saw in Rapport. It might be worth considering that ART continually oversteps in its relationship with Murderbot not because it's trying to be an asshole, but because it is not used to being treated as an actual authority figure. Like. ART has to carry around crew members it doesnt like. It has to play nice and dumb with corporates. Iris thinks of it as her younger sibling. I think there's a significant chance part of why ART is SO demanding and SO selfish when Murderbot first meets it is that's how it makes space for itself. It barges into conversations to remind people that it's there, hi, im in the room with you too. It takes things without asking because asking gets you told no. Its not going to play nice and pretend to be a normal bot pilot around its crew, it has to do that enough already. So its pushy, and it oversteps, because it's used to having to fight to be heard. ART isn't good at talking to bots, because its so used to having to jostle with humans for autonomy that it inadvertently steamrolls people who don't fight back.
It fucks up its first meeting with Murderbot because it isnt expecting Murderbot to perceive it as not only a threat but a superior. A lot of the conflict in their relationship, fact, comes from the fact that Murderbot doesn't see them as equals but ART does. And ART does hold a lot of power over Murderbot, but all the times it fucks up in their relationship aren't from trying to abuse that power but from being unaware (or willfully ignorant) of how that power imbalance affects it. I think ART knows it asks for too much, but it assumes that it needs to to end up with what it actually wants. Murderbot takes everything it says at face value, and ART is clearly getting better over the course of their relationship at not making demands just for the sake of asserting its agency. ART very clearly does not want Murderbot to meekly go along with everything it says. It's not acting the way it does because it expects compliance, but because it refuses to be compliant itself.
My take on those hollow bugs drawn before Silksong release.
Now I finally finished Silksong 100%. Maybe I can return to real life and drawing now?
I love The Murderbot Diaries because it reads like fanfiction of The Murderbot Diaries. "Murderbot finally has to acknowledge its PTSD when the symptoms start to endanger its work, surrounded by loving friends who do their best to help it accept that it has value as a person not just a tool" is a fanfiction plot. "ART isn't allowed to do the accounting because it cooks the books for no reason" is something Tumblr would make up. And yet.
I’m reading fanfic of Murderbot and just let me say that I keep forgetting the Argument Lounge is a term in the source material and was not made up for fanfic.
Murderbot specifically names its sabotage files:
1) CodeBundle.LockItDown 2) CodeBundle.FuckThem 3) CodeBundle.FuckThisToo
And that is a real thing that happened in canon.
#ART and murderbot canonically make a baby that embodies both of their personalities#(for those who don't read murderbot- murderbot 2.0 [ie ART and murderbots baby] is the one who named the sabotage files)
I love 2.0 because it was specifically killware, like it was made for a purpose and that purpose was to destroy a hostile system and die in the process, and someone's like "hey are you two sure you want to make a suicide baby, this might have emotional ramifications, you're probably gonna feel bad about this" and they're both like "no it's fine we're not squishy humans it's different for us" and then after it's made it talks to both of them on separate occasions and they're both like "you know I feel kinda bad about this" and 2.0 is like "shouldn't have made me killware then, sucks to be you" and has no conflicting emotions about its fate whatsoever
btw i think if murderbot ever watched star trek it would see the scene where data describes how his personal synthetic interpretation of love is ‘feeling accustomed to people and being uncomfortable with their absence’ and murderbot would force reset and never let itself confront all that
Kayne again :] found some neat coloured pencils and became obsessed with them
So I reread Artificial Condition (both listened to the audiobook again and read my lovely paperback copy) in the last few days, and what really really stuck with me this time is this part: (spoilers below)
And I hadn't broken its governor module for its sake. I did it for the four ComfortUnits at Ganaka Pit who had no orders and no directive to act and had voluntarily walked into the meat grinder to try to save me and everyone else left alive in the installation.
And somehow, as chilling as the accounts from the ComfortUnits cubicles, with the number of acknowledgements on the feed coming back fewer and fewer until there were none, this really hammered it home for me this time, in an almost visceral way. Because we know what these ComfortUnits were used for-- and I mean used very seriously, since I doubt the question of consent even comes up for them ("It's what they're made for.")-- and there's no guarantee they were treated any better than Murderbot tells us SecUnits were treated, and I assume they are often treated worse. Think about how human sex workers are treated in the real world! I think that's part of why our protagonist is so repulsed and insistent on not being categorized with "sexbots" in the first book-- it knows. Of course it knows. It's had to record it. But even despite this, of their own volition, the Ganaka Pit ComfortUnits left the safety of their cubicles, on their "time off", to see if they couldn't try and help save the lives of these same people who may or may not have ever treated them with a shred of dignity or kindness, with nothing but their somewhat-more-durable-than-human bodies, against tremendous, relentless violence. No wonder Murderbot walked into the door frame afterwards. I want to curl up and cry in a corner about it even now.
genuinely have 0 idea why I made this
Taako found that when he was designing his new home with his husband, the kitchen kept shifting from the shiny, chrome fantasty-instagramable cooking space he’d been planning to something, brighter and warmer. Wooden countertops lovingly laid by Magnus, herbs grown (thankfully out of earshot) by Merle and tiles and lights and decorations found in markets with Ango. Taako would still be stumped years later, cooking breakfast with Lulu, about his very Un-Taako decorating choices.
Lup never had the heart to tell him that he’d basically remade their Aunts kitchen, from a home long destroyed. She’d just shrug and tell him; Well, obviously, she’d inherited the taste in the family and avoid being egged with that days omelettes with practised ease. A commission for Kristen, who wanted to give Taako his dream kitchen, and i couldn’t resist giving him a cooking buddy! Let me know if you can spot all the easter eggs!! 🍳🍳🍳
I do commissions!

Miscellaneous:
Songs to Cry About Dan to
What it says on the tin- a mix of songs I listened to while thinking of Dan and started crying about it. Can’t guarantee results but if you are down for some good cries, be my guest! Shuffle-friendly.
Songs to Fall in Love With Your Muse to
A mix of 80s/90s queer-coded (to me anyway) love songs that remind me of Jacob Lester (pre-Rat) from season 1. I just love some 80s and 90s songs, my dudes. Shuffle-friendly.
Songs to Ominously Warn Your Bandmates With
An assorted mix of garage band-esque tracks. Loosely inspired by the band practice tape from season 3. Shuffle-friendly.
Instrumental Tracks to Contemplate Your Humanity Over
A mix of ambient tracks that made me feel like I was walking through the City or holed up in a bunker in the middle of the woods or performing rituals or- just general ambient A81 energy tracks. Shuffle-friendly.
Dan’s Music Library
I’ve seen a lot of people’s take on what constitutes a ‘hipster’ music taste and I’m a picky mofo so here’s my take on Dan’s music taste based on what he has been stated to listen to in the actual show- it’s awful and I’m sorry not sorry. Shuffle-friendly.
Train Loneliness
This is straight up just a mix of songs about trains/subways. I love train sounds and the sound design in these is super fun. It’s in here because the Train Loneliness tape is my favorite and yes, I do cry about it daily. Shuffle-friendly.
And Everything Turned Out Alright
If you didn’t know, I’m obsessed with post-s3 Dan and Clara being roommates; so this is a little playlist I made inspired by that concept. I hope it makes you as emotional as it does for me. Best played in order.
Press Your Face to Mine
[REDACTED INFORMATION]
You’re Not Too Bad Looking Yourself, Mate
A DanLou playlist cause if no one else is gonna steer the ship, it might as well be me. Shuffle-friendly.
I Don’t Have Much Time
Season three flavored Dan playlist. A lot of instrumental and ambient tracks. Best played in order.
95.6QRSKLB22ROBBRX29900339UOBK2RNJKLSOKV49BQ42069NNNNNNEVIOJR The Wolf
A Left of the Dial playlist. Based on the idea of a weird radio station. Experimental tracks with a healthy helping of metal and a sprinkle of odd picks that just fit to me. Best played in order.
Tea With My Marimo
An ambient/instrumental playlist based off the idea of a post-s2 Caroline recovering and growing plants. Shuffle-friendly.
Math Rock Roomies
A math rock mix for Dan and Clara, because I think their music connection extends there. Shuffle-friendly.
Aboard the Irons
A watery mix for the Irons ship- mostly ambient/instrumental but a few lyrical tracks thrown into it as well. Shuffle-friendly.
Ritual Radio
A weird mix that contains either instructions or strange items- mostly dream pop or psychedelic tracks. Loosely inspired by tapes from the archives, Michael Waters’ ritual tapes, or radio segments from Left of the Dial. Shuffle-friendly.
Chassis in the Flowerbeds
A atmospheric/ambient playlist based off of Melody and Alexa’s community garden home from season 2. Based around the idea of an eldritch garden that can grow audio-producing objects. Best played in order.
Not Built, Found
A season 2 playlist. Based on the idea of getting a tour of the Outpost and the people that currently occupy it. I reused some bits from previous playlists to help set the scene. Best played in order.
Have you ever tasted blood? Yyyeeessss : )
A bizarre and vaguely horrific Rat mix. Based on a cursed video of Gr*mes that radiated such Rat energy I could not resist making a mix based on it. Shuffle-friendly.
Cycles of Blood and Death and Exploitation
An edgy mix full of sex and violence. Really a thinly veiled excuse to put as much NIN on a playlist as I possibly could. Suggest skipping this one if not an adult or s*x-repulsed. Shuffle-friendly.
Why Did You Date Me?
An aromantic Dan playlist. I stand by this headcanon and I don’t care what anyone else says I know I’m right. Best played in order.
Boombox Fuckboy
A mix that is entirely comprised of titles that contain audio equipment, instruments, and music storage. Shuffle-friendly.
Score One for Films
A movie score mix. I have shit taste in films and I’m giving that trait to Dan. Shuffle-friendly.
Peppermint Mochas and Patch Cords
A modular synthesis mix. It’s just tracks that utilize modules. Shuffle-friendly.
Static Man Just Air Drums Into the Void
A percussive mix. Based on Static Man’s void riffing. Ordered but shuffle-friendly.
The City is Still a Part of Me
A post-s3 playlist where Dan can still pick up radio frequencies. Lot of sample usage. Best played in order.
And They Were Shipmates
A ChrisLou mix because I think the t4t bi lovers deserve a ship playlist. Mostly sailing and ocean-related tracks. Kind of summery as well. Shuffle-friendly.
What Drives You
Another exploration of post-s3 Dan but this time canon-compliant. I had a blast figuring this one out and I recommend giving it a listen to experience what it has to offer. Best played in order.
Scary Numbers and Work Friends
What’s that ? Another Dan playlist ? Pffft what I don’t- this is a Severance (Apple TV) AU playlist where Dan takes on a role similar to Helly. It’s composed primarily of plunderphonics because I love the genre to bits. Best played in order.
Something Beautiful and New
A mix focusing on the City. It’s supposed to convey the sensation of visiting a vast, unknown world with vague familiarity. Mostly trip hop, ambient, and vaporwave, with adjacent genres. Best played in order.
Eldritch Urbex
Another mix focusing on the City. This one is for the residents of it. Wide range of genres. Partner playlist is the one above. Best played in order.
Messenger Devotee
A mix focusing on the Messenger. Mostly plunderphonics, vaporwave, and trip hop. Heavy sample usage. Best played in order.
New Flesh
A mix focusing on Dan’s new flesh and all that it entails. I fully indulged on this when it came to genre / style and tried to focus on good transitions. Best played in order.
I Have Seen A Giant Trying to Eat Herself, and Succeeding
A mix based on Aleister’s house from season 3. Mostly noise and experimental, with a helping of other genres to help with transitions.
Songs From the Archive
Dumping grounds for any tracks I feel might work for a playlist or just have A81 vibes. Shuffle-friendly.
