The typography of P51 makes (semi) sense

I was in graphic design school for over a year and I can tell their blocky lettering style with round serifs comes from their anchestors carving with round chisel and drills into stone, these serifs exist to have starting/stopping points when chiseling stone and curves are impossible to chisel into stone, the stone splitters and cracks. (If they would live in tropical regions then their typography would be very smooth and round as straight lines would rip the leaves or any other paper made from soft plant fibers, see the Thai typography)

It’s revealed by the creators themselves that they do not have seasons and are in desert conditions all year round, that means their anchestors also have had only rocks and stone… 

Based on their placement of serifs, they were carving from right-to-left, bottom-to-top. Makes sense because the left hand would hold the chisel, the right hand the hammer, the chisel moves backward and that keeps the vision of the remaining stone clear, while it gets dragged through the stone and pre-drawn lines. They would start with drilling a hole, then place their chisel in it and start hammering. In the example of the A and T next to each other, their serifs are opposite, that means they avoided drilling twice on the same side to avoid brittle stones or breaking it altogether. 

Look up the development of ancient Roman typography, that gives a better insight.

Their writing style from right-left has changed into left-right with the introduction of ink and paper.

Some set serifs and letters dont make any sense, as if the serifs are now set randomly for aesthetic purposes. On paper it can be explained by the bigger ballpoint and runnier ink.

Here two fonts but both have serifs, one round and one flat, the way Roman typography looks.

Also funfact their paper has the texture of the moon I just figured.

Wiki pages update and community call

Ive been quietly updating every character I could get access to on the wiki, both Hero/Villain and the Planet 51 specific pages. But it is taking very long as I have to translate most of it. Mind you, my native language is German, my English is school-acquired and I just have bits and scraps of French. So, translating Spanish, French and Italian at the same time is pretty much work, I might become Mr. Worldwide through that haha

But I love to do it. Planet 51 is my heart project for like 2-3 years now. Of course, I balance this with my final college exams. What do you think, neglect my school and work? /sarc /hj

But because there is so much more out there, I’m making a call to everyone with free time, other sources and the same amount of energy for this project to come together and edit it together. Especially since I’m not quite into code and writing Fanpage layouts and I really do not want to mess up the pages code or delete anything on accident. I have the informations but I genuinely do not have the tools to apply said information. And it seems that Neeras and Skiffs pages are locked, I cannot access it or change the code of the page, so this is a plea to anyone who created their pages to open it, it would be so nice and I’ll thank you so so much in advance.

Ive been in the same pit as a newbie, various sorts of information isnt just right or fanpages are completely lacking any information, such as Professor Kipple and Eckle.

So, I made it into a mission, collect every digital and physical information, watch the included extras on the blue-ray and make notes, also making even notes form merch or games. My whole room is full of P51 by that point and I have a massive folder of handwritten notes.

Because newbies deserve to research without any false informations or unclear facts. Ive been at the same place, I did not know how tall or old Grawl is and things like that are quite crucial when writing P51 based stories. Nobody knew to be honest.

And P51 as its own franchise is so much more and deeper, the creators have put insane amount of details and thoughts into it.

The camera quality is quite ass but here you can see me at my second home editing parts of the pages. I sent that to my friend so why not sending in here too. Especially Chuck, since hes been the biggest pain in my butt, his age has gotten inconsistent over all various documents the more and more I dug into it. Bros age so controversial it had gotten a separate content header…

So far for now it’s still very surface-level ish work, like I update here and there, sometimes minor changes, sometimes whole layout changes.

I still have enough motivation to keep it up and keep digging. It’s my favorite thing to do as it’s my special interest, and I’d be open for collabs too.

Crazy I’ve had this AU since last year and for some reason I never explained it.

"The story is about how Royal Berry, Rich Cheese, and Dark Choco are the new bearers of the Soul Jams after the deaths of their parents in the Dark Flour War. All three have been ruling their kingdoms from a young age with the Soul Jams communicating with them through the voices of their late parents. Until Pure Vanilla returns and wants to reunite with his friends, but realizes that their children are now the new bearers."

And the canon lore remains exactly the same, except the trio must resolve their problems and traumas before they can achieve the awakening.

like many people have said this better than me but no it IS odd that we've come to think of potatoes as so quintessentially european that their presence in historical fantasy where they're anachronistic doesn't jar. and yes people are trying to have the trappings of post-colonial europe without engaging w the icky colonialism part and yes people are neglecting to imagine what a european cuisine without potatoes would be like.

im fully in favour of 'let people have fun w their fantasy world' but is considering how the potatoes got there in the absence of colonialism not a fun exercise? maybe every year the dragon riders go on a great transatlantic potato pilgrimage

perhaps a good way to sum up the issue here is:

if you put potatoes in your medieval european style fantasy world people will by and large not find it jarring and accept it as a normal fantasy trope

if you put, say, black people in your medieval european style fantasy world a whole demographic of people will get very angry and accuse you of breaking their immersion

this is in spite of the fact that black people were a lot more common in medieval europe than potatoes.
