HOLD UP HOW WAS I NOT AWARE OF THIS
was gonna leave my comment in the tags but tbh iām silent enough about this as it is.
seeing stuff like this is so upsetting because these terms were well known and widespread in the ace community but because of exclusionists many people stopped using terms like this because they felt uncomfortable and unsafe.
i loved these terms when i was in highschool, i loved the feeling of community, but i lost that because i didnāt feel comfortable openly and proudly calling myself asexual.
theyāve hurt so many people and damaged our community badly and i will never forgive them for that. we deserve to use our own terminology and feel safe within our community.
sometimes i notice i havenāt seen āgraceā (grey-ace) in a while and consequently wonder if i made it up.
I remember ppl - even other ace ppl - saying the card suit thing was ācringeyā and āstraight ppl arenāt gonna take us seriouslyā (sounds familiar?) So i guess the community wound up abandoning it. We were also having severe issues at the time with aces being stereotyped as āchildish/immatureā for associating things like cake, dragons, and space with asexuality, plus in general as most aces just donāt āgetā allosexual things in media and irl. We were starting to be viewed as ignorant, virginal, childish, losers, etc. I havenāt seen an ace-cake thing in a good while now.
This was the infancy of exclusionary influence on us. I didnāt realize it did more damage than just closeting us. Whole symbols and terms have been lost. Community has been lost.
I remember three-four years ago I got myself into the ace community on Insta, and I came across these terms. People in these circles would talk about cake, space, dragons, and the black ring on the middle finger. Then, a year or two later, ace content fizzled out (I thought it was Instaās algorithm figuring out that I knew all this and didnāt bring me the old stuff) and young aces had no idea what any of these were - including the black ring. Finding out young aces had no idea what the black ring meant nearly snapped my heart in two - I proudly wore the black ring, I drew characters with it, and it was my quiet way of communicating to others what my sexuality was. I was baffled at the lack of knowledge - and it turns out that exclusionists got their hands into our community and snuffed us out.Ā
Anyways, we need to bring this back. I thought the card suite thing was cool, it taught people the different ways people can experience attraction, I loved making jokes about preferring cake, I loved wearing the black ring and talking about it with my fellow queer people at my highschool QSA club.Ā
Iām sorry, people donāt know about the cake or ring anymore? I remember being welcomed with spams of cake gifs, photos, and MS Paint drawings. I also distinctly remember that the block solo ring in the midle was meant as reference to the Ace of Spades (black, solo, middle of card). Only thing I didnāt know was that other aces could represent a more refined nuance. Letās see if we can get this all rolling again.
Welcome to anyone who is interested in helping with the culture revival.
oh my GOD i hope no one realizes i have multiple facets
oh thank godā¦
Someone do this to me
I saw this video, and then noted that it was a theoretical thing and not real, so I yelled
"THEORETICALLY??? I gotta try this. Where's the power drill?"
My friend immediately starts yelling NO! At me like I'm a cat eating plastic. He even correctly guessed that I was on tumblr and warned that he would turn off the internet.
Your friend was correct to stop you. There's no way for this thing to attach to a pilot drill, however you construct it. It would be absurdly dangerous to use in reality. I mean look at that thing.
I donāt understand.
This is what a normal hole saw looks like.
Note the pilot drill in the middle. This keeps the hole saw centered during cutting so it doesn't go everywhere. Without this, there's a chance of the saw slipping about, and when a bunch of saw teeth are rotating nearby you at incredibly high speeds you do not want them skipping around everywhere, that's how you lose a chunk out of your hand.
It's technically possible, if you're careful and have the right equipment and a death wish, to drill a circular hole without a pilot drill, but it's inadvisable unless you absolutely have to and not something that an inexperienced driller should do. Generally, you use this thing, with the pilot drill on it. A hole saw has regular teeth and moves at a regular speed and the pressure when drilling stays about the same.
But that triangular thing? No fucking way. Look at how that bit is moving. The pressure is NOT the same. It's all over the fucking place. Attach that to a drill and your drill is being pulled every which way. Attach that to a hand drill and you'll win a Darwin award. Drills are using a lot more pressure and speed than it seems when you're using them; I mildly sprained my wrist using one the other day drilling in a normal arse screw with a normal arse bit because the screw caught on something and stopped before the safety torque thingy could catch up. You do NOT fuck around with bits that provide shaky, unpredictable forces like that. You would not, ever, use a bit like that without a pilot drill. That thing goes on a massive, heavy duty, carefully calibrated piece of factory equipment behind a safety shield and nowhere else. In fact, I wouldn't even use a bit like that at home *with* a pilot drill, unless I had the most stable drill press of all time. Absolutely never on a hand drill.
Okay, so we can use it at home on a really good drill press if we had a pilot drill, right?
Nope. Look at how it moves. It's impossible to put a pilot on that thing. The bit has to cross over the middle to function. It'd collide with the pilot.
Do not build a bit like this, it's theoretical for a reason.
You can do it if you are pure of heart
Pick a side:
You can do it if you are pure of heart
Itās theoretical for a reason
#theoretical for a reason#but I think more theorizing could innovate a solution to the triangle hole saw problem
We have multiple solutions to that problem, depending on what you're trying to put the hole in and how big you want it to be. Some include:
Punch the hole
Cast a piece with a triangle hole in it already
Use a jigsaw, or similar cutting tool
Use a drill bit or similar tool designed for etching, with a stencil if need be, and dig your way down layer by layer
If you have ten billion years to spare, stencil and chisel
Carefully sized circular blade on an appropriately designed tool, lower into the material to make three cuts
Laser
Those bits that basically jackhammer a hole into wood

Fish-rice integration is exciting. You harvest both fishes and rice on the same land. Do you like it?

glad people got the subtext on this one
Quitmormon.com (the pro-bono legal team who made it so the Mormon church couldn't stalk me after I left the church) is fundraising to get a full-time, paid lawyer, AND provide free mental health services to people leaving the Mormonism (mostly LGBT people and our allies)
I'm not one to post fundraisers, my followers know this, but if you can spare a few dollars to give to this incredible organization I would be so grateful
Here's the g*fundme

KIRA! As stated previously I recently started DS9 and Kira is my favorite so far! I def need to practice drawing her more⦠Iām sure as I watch on Iāll figure out how to draw the DS9 characters better.
I love how in most of star trek the cmo does not belong on the bridge yet they will be there and they will have invented a reason for them to be there. ds9 is just straight up like "julian is a gossip who gets bored easily. he is here to talk to dax about kira's love life. he is here because the infirmary is dull. he likes hanging out with his friends." honestly a great call. brilliant characterisation.
