He's suing them over it for $25M.
Wyland has said any financial recovery from the suit would support public art, ocean conservation, and environmental education through his foundation.
"This should have been an opportunity to show the world that global sports, public art, and environmental stewardship can stand together," he said. "Instead, a landmark was painted over. We want to do our part to make sure that what happened here does not become the standard for how public art is treated in cities across America."
Companies that rushed to replace human labor with AI are now shelling out to have IRL workers to fix the technology's screwups.
Delicious. We love to see it.
@ralfmaximus
Ultimately, she spent 20 hours redoing the copy from scratch — and with her $100-per-hour rate, that meant her client was shelling out $2,000 for copy that likely would have ended up being far cheaper had a human just written it in the first place.
I love stories like this.

Today's wasp of the day is the red cone gall wasp (Feron kingi)!
Credits: photo 1, photo 2
As you may have guessed from the name, this gallforming wasp creates little red cones on the leaves of oak trees! When a mama wasp lays her eggs on a leaf, the tree senses the irritant and, being influenced by the chemicals the wasp gives it, creates hard structures to wall off the wasps. This is of course exactly what the wasp wants, as the structures provide food and a safe place to pupate in. Wasps that emerge in the summer are all female and go on to create the spring batch which will be a mix of male and female wasps. The galls are detachable, meaning that once the wasp pops out, the gall pops off.

The Most Tumblr Punchline
I've noted before that my favorite punchline on Tumblr is "hang on, gotta look something up/okay that's funny."
Let me explain why:
It is a way to say "I don't get it" without blaming the joke or the teller.
It is a tacit admission of ignorance without shame or judgement.
It assumes responsibility for acquiring the knowledge the respondent doesn't already have.
It cues other people who Don't Get It to do the look-up themselves, allowing them to get that full impact of Getting It without derailing the post with explanations.
It gives subsequent readers, whether or not THEY got the joke, a little frisson of good feelings when they realize that someone else is now In On The Joke.
It not only makes the original joke funnier, it gets funnier the more often it's used.
I've actually used it when I already knew, but also knew the subject at hand was absurdly niche and wanted to encourage people to look it up.
i also enjoy the variant "hang on i gotta look something up"/"hey what the fuck" because sometimes history is just. like that

UNRESTRAINED SUMMER FUN
wait I have one more story. there's a group of anti-abortion protesters who often set up by the Ethiopian cafe I hang out in, and when I was waiting to cross one of them held up an aborted fetus sign and said "how does this make you feel?" and I said "hungry", and then I was so satisfied by my own cleverness that I missed the lights and stepped off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic
i hate that concerns about urban gardening/foraging safety is often met with "What are you, a cop?" scorn. I believe it's a suspicion of anything that hinders the punk/anti-system urgency to jump in immediately and do whatever feels right.
Safety, ethics, and sustainability are all a part of urban gardening and foraging. I'm sorry that means you need to do homework before you can do anything, I know that sounds lame. But life is complicated.
I know anti-intellectualism is viewed as activist these days, but like, surely you don't want to literally eat lead, right?
Let’s check in and see how those rascally solarpunk kids are doing, surely they’ve learned by now that…..
Daily reminder: Leafy greens like kales uptake all those delicious heavy metals in urban soils like lead and cadmium.
Don’t eat sidewalk-crack kale.

Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.

i love you
im refusing to give up given the shitty situation literally everyone is in and just focusing on putting one foot in front of the other and just doing what i know i do best (studying science, making others laugh, being kind) and refusing to lose hope because in such a time wheN PPL IN POWER WANT YOU TO FEEL SMALL AND HELPLESS, HOPE AND KINDNESS IS PUNK ROCK!!!!! SMOOCHES YOUR FOREHEAD <3
The polar opposite of corporate accounts trying to come across as hip and super friendly are the ones for libraries, aquariums, parks systems and the like, that are basically just trying to get people excited about learning and the wonder of history/science by posting things like this:
You know how much I would lose my mind if I was at an aquarium and turned a corner to see a wild ass heron staring at a fish tank
