humbling
people saying "write what you want to see in the world!" and that's always a good sentiment but this post isn't really about "oh no there's no content for my ship", more the feeling of "i looked up something that i thought was so obvious that surely plenty of more seasoned ao3 perverts would have thought of it already, but apparently i'm the weird one"
Just remember: once upon a time there was no such thing as the Omegaverse and now there are whole professionally produced TV shows in that genre. Just because nobody's written about it doesn't mean you're weird in a bad way. Perhaps you're not just a pervert, you're an innovative pervert. Be proud.
editing is so funny because it's like "damn, i wrote 'before' two times within three paragraphs. they are going to stone me in the town square for this"

This comes one day after the archive changed their status to “Omega” for April Fools’ Day.

For all the folks who have been begging pleading asking for these in the inbox - behold. User @elikaruna is here to save you.
The instructions on adding such things to your AO3 profile are in the news post (at the bottom) - just replace the url in the example with the url of whichever other thing you are putting there. And probably change the alt text.
how to write, a step-by-step guide from my personal experience

in my post abt tumblr's porn ads I said something like "I don't care much about the fact that I'm seeing porn rather than that we as users can't post it but advertisers can". and a few people have reblogged with tags like "I DO care about seeing porn/I don't want to see it and I shouldn't have to/I also don't care but would love not to flashbang people" all of which are true and fair. but friends, colleagues. I put that line in there to keep swerfs away from the post. it is all too easy for anything which is ostensibly complaining about porn to be dragged into that sphere and lauded as proof that the world is porn addicted and degenerate.
I am a porn creator who considers porn & sex a significant part of my artistic expression. when I say I'm not bothered by seeing porn on dash, I mean ideally I would be seeing much more of it from real people. but even if this wasn't the case, I consider the naked body a neutral object to look at - it doesn't disturb me and I am concerned at the amount of people who seem disturbed at seeing any amount of nudity on their screen.
so let me be more explicit. the problem with the porn ads is not the porn, it's the ads. it's the fact that advertisers can post things that users can't. it's the inability to filter out the content because it is an ad and is not beholden to the same TOS or labelling rules as users are. it's the fact that many of the ads are for AI services, showing AI generated skinny white women (further pushing the needle on the extreme fascistic, white supremacist body image issues people are developing) in lieu of paying real life sex workers.
it's cool and fine that you would prefer not to see explicit porn in your day-to-day life. but you need to know that repeatedly, compulsively reinforcing this desire when I'm trying to talk about a problem of capitalism and censorship of expression does in fact position you nearer to the censors than it does to me and other sex workers.
I guess I really did need to make it more explicit, huh
Let me try
Hey dipshits, companies shouldn’t have more rights and privileges than you. You should get to post what you want, and you should get to choose what you see, including ad content. Companies shouldn’t get to push ads to everyone, they shouldn’t be immune to social consequences like them or their ads being blocked, and they shouldn’t be able to dictate what you see or post either.
It’s not about the porn. It’s about preventing corporate fascism by stopping censorship, including the censorship of porn, which is always the first thing to go in censorship campaigns before they expand beyond that btw. Making it about how you hate porn and want it gone is pro-corporate fascism because you’re advocating FOR censorship. And one day they will move on to blocking things that aren’t nsfw if you keep it up.
And again. Users should get to choose. Not companies or censorship. That includes letting the porn blogs choose to see porn.
big fan of when a character metaphorically sweeps something under the rug, but you can feel them flinch every time they walk over it and feel the crumbs beneath their feet
You aren't the Chosen One. The prophecy doesn't even get going for another few generations. But you aren't just going to let some upstart conqueror trample your tulip garden just because the Fates say you can't beat him.
repeating this to myself forever and ever
I need dick on a new level never before seen
are you prepared to handle metaphysical cock from a bear 6 cuils removed from his own body?
I can handle cock at ANY level of abstraction.
*closes my ancient tome* he's ready
*turns to the council* unleash the fractal hypercock
are you reading tumblr on an ancient tome?
not impordant right now
were I to create an original piece of media I would create bait so queer in order to create a fanfic environment I like. I find you guys do your best work under duress.
I’d say “jeez can two people not be friends anymore?” and then I’d give one of them amnesia in which they only recognize the other above anyone else
I remember what happened with Occupy Wall Street. Entirely peaceful. Patiently dealing with political harassment. Seeking in good faith the reforms which had been promised but never delivered upon. And the Obama administration used the police state apparatus to ruthlessly crush it anyway.
They don't care about justifications. They don't need pretext. They'll just do it and blame you anyway.
The moment your protest is declared illegal is the moment your protest starts working.
one time this japanese fujoshi i follow on twitter posted "the bottom should have a bigger dick so that you can watch it bounce while they get fucked and the top should have a smaller dick so that it can go in easier. uke dicks should be big and decorative and seme dicks should be average size and functional" and honestly her mind
ok fine reblogs are back on go wild
You know what, I don't hate this take.
Bitches be out here recreating Ancient Greece.
fujoshis, every day:
When a Character Is Grieving Someone They Never Got to Say Goodbye To
✧ They talk about the person in past tense… then correct themselves. Then stop talking entirely.
✧ They touch things that belonged to the person like they’re fragile, sacred, about to disappear.
✧ They hoard the last voicemail, last message, last anything. Play it. Don’t play it. Just knowing it exists hurts enough.
✧ They leave something untouched, an empty seat, a half-packed bag, a coffee order that isn’t theirs.
✧ They get irrationally angry when someone else seems to be “moving on.” As if forgetting is betrayal.
✧ They don’t let themselves cry all at once. It comes in pieces. Like they’re afraid too much grief will drown them.
✧ They over-apologize. For being quiet. For being distant. For not being okay.
✧ They become hyper-aware of time, dates, anniversaries, time zones, the exact moment everything ended.
✧ They get superstitious. Ritualistic. As if doing things "right" might reverse something.
✧ They smile when they talk about the person. But it’s brittle. And it never quite touches their eyes.
I think some people forget that some literature and some media is meant to be deeply uncomfortable and unsettling. It's meant to make you have a very visceral reaction to it. If you genuinely can't handle these stories then you are under no obligation to consume them but acting as if they have no purpose or as if people don't have a right to tell these stories, stories that often relate to the darkest or most disturbing parts of life, then you should do some introspection.
I’ve read some things that deal in sad/dark/actually depressing and disturbing subject matter. I’ve loved them and the points they make without endorsing the events portrayed.
It’s always disappointing to get online and see that the conversation is “X thing shouldn’t exist” on the grounds that it made somebody feel badly. It was meant to make you feel that way and it’s normal that it did - it’s okay that you stop reading it or don’t finish it but I am BEGGING you to consider why it made you uncomfortable and why the author felt the need (if the answer isn’t immediately obvious, as it can be). There isn’t shame in something putting you off so badly that you shelve it.
The sterilization of reality is a detriment to all who exist within it. To censor stories with painful themes is to erase the reality that such stories are based in some horrific truth and works to erase the reality that many people have endured.
This trend or whatever we want to call it has gotten so bad that I listened to an entire lecture from somebody about how awful a book was and how it shouldn’t exist at all, how the author was a terrible person for concocting it and how it hurt people. When I asked what the book was, this person not only could barely recall the name but HAD NEVER READ IT. I bought the book. I read the book. It accomplished its task beautifully and I found it to be a cathartic experience. I also understood how it could make people so uncomfortable and would never judge anybody for setting it down.
It’s okay not to like something and distance yourself from it. Remember that those rules apply only to you, though, because they speak only to your own psyche.
Periodic reminder that one of the many roles of fiction is microdosing on big scary feelings so you build resilience, empathy, understanding, and defense against the real thing.
