No no, okay, sorry I do actually have to write this down here because I'm actual;ly reeling that there are people who don't know this (but then KH has been my special interest for 25 years now.):
Birth by sleep takes place 10 years before the events of KH3. when Aqua is taken out of the realm of darkness, we learn that she'd been there for 10 years. meaning that, when Ven, Terra and Aqua turn up on Destiny islands, Riku and Sora are 6 and 5 years old respectively.
In this Same year Ventus meets Lea and Isa in radient gardens and they appear to us as teenagers around the same age as Ventus, who is - I believe, around 15 (physically and ignoring union X stuff for now) during the events of BBS. this also happens to be the same year that Terra gets norted and Xehanort starts going as Ansem while in Terra's body, meaning it is ALSO the same year that he messes with Ansem the Wises research and sends Kairi to Destiny island before the fall of Radient Garden.
Now, we know that Leon Aerith and Yuffie have been in Traverse Town for 9 years at the beginning of KH1 meaning that the same year Xehanort possessed Terra, he opened the door to darkness in Radient garden and allowed the world to become hollow bastion.
KH 1 and Chain of memories. only takes place over a couple of weeks during early august, into september. how do we know this? because in KH 2 sora has been sleeping for a year, and it is summer vacation in Twilight town. We also know that Roxas (made towards the end of soras adventure in what is likely late august) was in the organisation for 358 days. Like there is a whole game about it.
therefore when Sora wakes up he is 15 years old. now, this is where i think some people get a bit lost with the KH timeline because they all assume that KH3 takes place a year later. it does not. At the end of KH2 the boys are summoned to Yen Sids tower where they under go the mark of mastery (AKA Dream drop distance). This, at MOST, takes place in the span of about two weeks.
Kh 3 then takes place directly after the ending scene of DDD where Riku is given the rank of master and Sora isn't. We know this from Riku's clothes and because Sora has made no progress with his lost strength. the game even differentiates between the beginning of Soras journey as KH 2 and then when he gets back from olympus, only THEN does it call the game KH3. sora is STILL 15 at this point. and he will not be 16 until KH4.
Meaning that Axel who was 15 during BBS, is now 25 years old. and we know this for sure because he no longer looks like he did when he met Ventus. the SAME year Radient garden fell to darkness is the same year that Lea and Isa join the castle guard to try and find the mysterious girl they had met.
all this to say Axel is no younger than 25 years old by KH 3, while Roxas is physically 15 years old. And THAT is why people have historically had a problem with their ship since 2005.
