According to @suesdebut, It is officially Outsiders Day! The book was published 58 years ago today on April 24th, 1967.
I just want to say that I am grateful for a story that has added so much to my life had given light to problems that I faced growing up. This book will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to read it and connect with all of you about it.
I’ve been saying this since 5th grade when a first read it!! Happy Outsiders Day!! What a wonderful book that has impacted my life in so many ways, and continues to impact it today! One of my favorite books of all time with so much greatness in it!
A Ramble on Sandy:
I just can’t stop thinking about Sandy’s maybe ploy to get out of Tulsa. How it’s all one big lie to get her out from her dad’s thumb and out of stinking Tulsa.
Sandy knows that if she tells her dad she’s pregnant with her boyfriend’s kid then he’ll send her to live with his parents all the way out Florida. There is no way he’d ever let her stick around and marry a 16 year old kid.
She also knows that if she tells Sodapop Curtis she’s pregnant with some other guys kid, he’ll want to break up.
Either way, she’ll het to leave her abusive father in Tulsa and leave Sodapop to find some other girl. One that isn’t as messed up and suffocated as her. God knows a girl like Sandy, with her abusive father and thin frame is going to have terrible self esteem issues. She probably thinks getting out of Tulsa will fix whatever is wrong with her head.
So she devises a plan to tell her dad and Sodapop each separate lies, both sealed with a lie about a fake pregnancy.
What she didn’t expect is that Sodapop would actually want to marry her. She never thought she was good enough to be Sodapop Curtis’s girlfriend… let alone wife. She almost takes it, she really does. She could just let him marry her and fake a miscarriage. Something she’d seen done on the East side hundreds of times, it wouldn’t be hard to fake.
But that self hatred, the self loathing… it gets her. And she can’t. The fact that their marriage would have been built on lies would almost be enough to undo her. She always thought that maybe she could tell Sodapop about all the stuff with her dad. The belting, the hitting, the cruel words, and the touching. But deep down, she knows he’d never get it. He’d smile and rub her back and tell her how sorry he was but Sandy doesn't want anybody's muttered sympathies. Not even Sodapop's, with his golden hair and perfect smile.
So she declines the marriage proposal, despite how sincere and leaves to Florida. She couldn’t do that to Soda, build a marriage on lies and let him find out the worst parts of herself later. The same ones that she had worked so hard to cover up.
Say what you will about Sandy, but she got out of Tulsa on her own terms.

Jewish Superheroes
Someone requested this a while back, so in the light of Hanukkah, here you go!
Spider-Man- In the comics, especially during the holiday specials, he would always wish people a “Happy Hanukkah”. Even some of the creators like to think he’s Jewish. Stan Lee even hinted that he was Jewish because he said he wanted to base Peter Parker on himself a lot, even mentioning his Jewish background. And, spoiler alert, Stan Lee grew up in a Jewish home! Some further proof is that the executive producer and director of Toby’s Spider-Man movies say that he is, Andrew Garfield and the writer of the amazing Spider-Man movies says that he is, and the Co-director og into the spider-verse says he is. Also, in into the spiderverse Peter B Parker crushes a glass at his wedding, so he is definitely Jewish too.
The flash- Barry Allen is Jewish, he even says it in the justice league. He describes himself as an “attractive Jewish boy”
Superman- Clark Kent is Jewish. Superman is also loosely based off of Moses, you can see this by the way he was sent off his planet by his parents and you can see it throughout the comics and movies. His birth name is Kal-El, which in Hebrew means “the voice of god” which I thought was cool. Even if Superman is an alien, Clark Lent is definitely Jewish.
Moon knight- In the comics Marc grew up in a strict Jewish household, his father was a rabbi. Apparently it shows this somewhere in the series, but I never finished it so I wouldn’t know.
Wanda and Pietro- in the comics, they are Jewish because their father is Magneto and he is Jewish. In the movies, it doesn’t clearly state that they are Jewish but it can be assumed that they are. This is because they were born near Romania and since we don’t have much information on their parents in the movies, we can assume that they are Jewish or of Jewish descent.
Magneto- he is only in the comics, but is rumored to appear soon. He is a mutant that controls magnetism. He was a holocaust surviver but doesn’t play much into his Jewish background after that. So we can assume that his human-version is Jewish. He focused more on protecting mutants though.
Harley Quinn- In the very first voicing of Harley Quinn, the voice actor made her have a strong New York accent, but said she added some “Yiddish sounds” to it. Maybe she isn’t in some of the modern versions, but she was at one point. And in the comics, Harley Quinn often returns to a Jewish and catholic family during the holidays, showing that she is half Jewish.
The Thing- in the comics, he had a bar mitzvah and practices at the synagogue. Some people think that he was loosely based off the golem, which could make sense because the golem was sculpted of clay and is a protector while the Thing is rock and a protector.
My sister ( @suesdebut ) and I were talking about how out of every peice of media the outsiders was the one that stuck such a prominent chord with me is because of how I identify with each character. One at a time and all at once. At least every point in my life I have identified with each character.
At one point I have been Ponyboy Curtis. Misunderstood and feeling everything too sharply, writing everything down in hopes that I can make some sense of it all.
At one point I have been Sodapop Curtis. Stuck in the middle, voice going unheard yet still having to put on a brave face for those that believe I haven’t been anything other than brave.
At one point I have been Darrel Curtis. My focus solely on my baby sisters, protecting them and making sure nothing happens to them, carrying every responsibility of the oldest sibling. A child raising children.
At one point I have been Dallas Winston. Alone in every way that was possible, spitting blood with nothing but my sharp tongue and fire in my veins to protect me.
At one point I have been Two-Bit Matthews. Jokes and quick remarks distracting from the human underneath everything.
At one point I have been Ace Evans. Dressed like a little tomboy, shifting eyes, not sure who to trust, moving so quick you hardly have time to look.
At one point I have been Johnny Cade. Small and invisible, shrunken inward and so painfully quiet that nobody knew the world was crumbling beneath my feet.
At one point I have been Steve Randle. Spewing blood and bile, hatred and resentment at the world through my bitter upcoming, always placed second next to a beautiful best friend that everyone seemed to prefer.
At one point I have been Cherry Valence. Oldest daughter, fighting with my father when my mother wouldn’t, trying to hard to be good at school and sports and friends when you really don’t feel at home anywhere.

I saw a post by @annesboloser the other day, trying to find some Ben Cook as Crutchie pics
sooooooo, I was the BIGGEST Ben Cook fan a few years back (I still love him, but I’ve moved on with my obsessions). I know I have some of his Crutchie pictures saved somewhere, probably deep in my Pinterest, but here’s what I found for now.
I’m sorry if the quality turns out bad, but I hope this helped! I also added an audio of him singing Letter To The Refuge I found while going down this rabbit hole!

Greasers as colors and Why
Ponyboy - Grey-Blue - This color has many different areas it’s related to, some things include skepticism, intellect, and even feeling burnt out. I think these all apply to Pony more towards the beginning of the musical. He’s feeling burnt out of Tulsa, like Far Away From Tulsa and Great Expectations. He’s very intelligent and also skeptical of certain things that are happening around him.
Sodapop - Baby Blue - Soda is always happy and caring, positive emotions are very prominent with this color. Baby blue is also associated with being trustworthy and also valuing honesty. I think this is true for Soda when it comes to Sandy, he would have rather had her be honest up front. The color also relates to being emotional, and Soda is very much so an emotional character (need I say more??)
Johnny - Light Purple - Light Purple can be someone who is unifying, and I think Johnny is this character. He’s the one, as Pony says, who keeps the group together by being there. The color is also associated with loyalty and trustworthiness, which explains Johnny perfectly. He’s someone Pony can talk about anything with. It’s also a soft, comforting, and gentle color. All of these characteristics explain Johnny perfectly. He is such a gentle and soft-spoken character, he sees people even if they don’t see him.
Dallas - Deep Red - He’s very strong willed and determined in everything he does, which are major aspects associated with this color. He’s always determined to keep Pony and Johnny safe in whatever circumstances. Strength and even negative emotions can be associated with this color. Dally isn’t a negative person, but he does have some strong negative emotions like anger and he is around many negative habits.
Darry - Forrest Green - This color is associated with many different emotions and things, such as strength, reliability, and resilience. Darry is very much so this character, he tries to stay strong for Soda and Pony at all times, while also trying to do everything around the house. It’s also a color of growth. Throughout the musical we can see how he becomes more understanding of Ponyboy, he supports his writing more and even reads it. He begins to show more love towards both Pony and Soda at the end. He grows a lot throughout the story, and we see that more prominently in the musical.
Two-Bit - Golden Yellow - Energetic, happy, confident, vibrant, and social. Doesn’t this sound exactly like Two-Bit? He is always talking and cracking jokes, he’s messing around with Soda or Ace. He’s in it for the thrill, he is always energetic and doesn’t think twice (or at all) about his jokes. He’s also an extremely loyal character, he is willing to do anything for any of the other characters.
Ace - Royal Purple - This color is a royal color, I think that Ace is such an independent and strong person, she’s definitely the queen of the group. She’s tough and loyal, which are qualities of the color. She’s willing to do anything for Steve, Soda, Two-Bit, or anyone in the gang. She’s also very intelligent, she learns from her past and doesn’t let others get in her way.
Steve - Dark Blue - This color is associated with deep loyalty and connection to those around you. Although Steve isn’t a main character, you can still see what comradery he had with the other members of the gang. He’s fiercely loyal to Ace especially. Dark Blue is a genuine color, and I think Steve is a genuine person. Although he may look tough, I think he’s a genuine softy on the inside.

Daryl Tofa is so freaking wonderful!! The emotion he brought to the song!!! In the beginning it was so heart-wrenching and sad, then he screams, “Does anybody care?!?” LITERAL CHILLS! You can hear the utter heartbreak and anger through his voice! His screaming brought so much needed emotion!
I LOVE THIS MAN! AAAAHHHH!
Soc style vs. Greaser style
Socs: Bold colors, pastels, short skirts, letterman jackets, long sleeves, and sleek clothes. Socs wear lots of bright and pastel colors. Pastel colors signify elegance, optimism, innocence, and even dreaminess. Mini Skirts are a huge part of the girly soc style, in the 60’s they were a sign of the new generation and playfulness. Letterman jackets are a sign of academic achievements, popularity, and toughness in the 60’s.
Greasers: grays, blues, browns, dark-toned colors, denim, grungy, tank tops, long or ripped pants, flannels, and jean jackets. Denim is CRUCIAL to the Greaser style, denim often symbolizes revolution, the working class, and opposing mainstream ideas. Blue is a color of loyalty, every single greaser is loyal to each other. Every greaser is wearing something blue, the only one that isn’t is Darry. He wears lots of brown, brown is a color of strength and dependability. It’s important that he’s not wearing blue because Ponyboy perceives Darry as someone who isn’t loyal to him, but really Darry is always there for Pony, he just doesn’t realize it.
I’ve never seen the musical, so I hope I did okay! Let me know if you guys want me to do specific characters!
Ari and Dante - Prom Night
Dante being extremely excited for prom and getting prepared and can’t stop thinking or talking about it.
Ari trying not to think about it, but Dante brings it up every two seconds.
Dante makes Ari pick out the boutonnieres. Ari spends too long in the store picking them out, he can’t decide.
He picks out one that he kinda likes and leaves the store.
The Boutonniere ends up being Dante’s favorite when he went into the store earlier.
Ari wears a traditional black suit with a tie that matches Dante’s brightly colored/patterned suit.
Before they get out of the truck to go to prom, Dante takes his shoes off and leaves them in the truck.
They both end up having a lot of fun. Dante likes the fast songs and absolutely loves dancing to them with Ari. Ari secretly loves the slow songs but doesn’t admit that to Dante.
After the dance they get some cheap fast food and drive out into their spot in the desert.
They talk and eat when Dante suddenly gets up, turns on the truck and puts a cassette in.
Dante makes Ari dance with him in the bed of the truck.
