For those not tapped into Australian politics, King Charles is in Australia to conduct his "historic first tour to the commonwealth realm" i.e visting countries that King Charles is supposedly a monarch to.
Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe had requested an audience with King Charles for weeks prior to this visit, she wrote countless letters to speak to him. Unlike other commonwealth nations and other former Brisitish colonies, a treaty with Indigenous peoples in Australia was never formed. Their land was never ceded to the British Crown. After being denied and ignored, Lidia Thorpe, draped in a traditional possum skin cloak, stormed in the Great Hall during the reception for Charles at Parliament House in the capital shouting the following:

I don't know how to tell you this. But the wizard in the picture is canonically Saruman.

the way ivan aivazovsky looks at the sea…i think…i think that’s what love looks like.
love is surrounding yourself with people who see you this clearly
Still the freakiest fact about him is that despite being as tall as a person or more, he banged out these beauties in a day or two at most (and smaller ones ina matter of hours). The longest he spent on a painting, at age 81, to make his largest ever painting, was TEN DAYS:
It is 2.9×4.3 meters large. That’s 9'4"×14'1" for people in other measurement systems. It’s HUGE. There are artists out there that spend years on paintings much smaller than this. He was not one of them.
He also didn’t only paint the sea, but he MOSTLY painted the sea. Very few people could draw light filtering through waves the way this guy did and apparently it was tied into his layering technique that allowed him to paint so goddamn fast.
He is obviously my most favorite painter ever.
!!!
Adobe is going to spy on your projects. This is insane.
For general graphics: use GIMP For vector graphics: use Inkscape For drawing and illustration: use Krita For print and web publishing and design: use Penpot For PDF authoring: use LibreOffice For PDF reading and form filling: use Okular
All are free, open source and cross-platform. None use AI.
Reblog for everyone
friends don't let friends use GIMP. use photopea

The local queer centrum asked us all to support the ban on conversion therapy in the EU initiative, so now it's My Job to do it seriously.
We still need so many signatures. Damn. So. Many. Signatures.
Come on people, we can do this!!
To my fellow European moots and followers, please sign this initiative to make conversion therapies illegal in all the EU.
We need 1M signatures and there's only 100k.
Just in Madrid, more than 1M people attended the PRIDE event. It's time to put our efforts where our words are.
Signing this is super easy and quick if you have an electronic certificate, i just did it in less than a minute. If you don't have it don't worry, you can simply fill out the form provided and proceed with the signing process.
If there's anybody discouraged because you have to give your ID and that's personal info, you have to remember that this is not some random person asking for signatures on the street, this is an actual and formal initiative than can reach the EU governments if you do your part! They need your ID to verify that the signature is real and can be traced back to a specific individual to avoid fraud, just like when you vote on elections or with any kind of bureocracy.
Go sign this right now! And if you can't because you're not an EU citizen, make sure to reblog and share so we can reach more people!

IOS users and Patreon. Big old heads up.
"Apple is requiring that Patreon use their in-app purchasing system and remove all other billing systems from the Patreon iOS app by November 2024. This means that starting in November, new memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple's 30% App Store fee.
First, we want to be clear about one thing: this will not impact your existing memberships at all. Apple's App Store fee only applies to new memberships purchased in the iOS app beginning in November 2024."
Apple users, if you make your pledges through your browser you can dodge this fee.
This is just apple doing its usual nickel and diming to take a slice of every pie.
30% is a comically huge cut on top of what patreon already takes. Please, for future support of patreon creators, please avoid the Apple App version of patreon. Open a web browser and support your favorite creators that way to make sure your money goes to the creators and not just disappear into the void of another giant corporate greed hole.
I know lots of fellow artists who need patreon to live and keep making things. Don’t let Apple gobble up what you’re trying to give to them. This is just ridiculous.
Valerio Minato's photo that won the Astronomy Picture of the Day Contest by NASA on December 25th, 2023.
In the picture: the moon, the Monviso Mount and the Basilica of Superga (on the Superga hill) outside Turin are all aligned. it took him 6 years to take this shot (and I take it as an example to never give up on your dreams).
So I see you all are exhausted by streaming services effectively recreating cable. I see you’re all tired of ads. Pirating is a great alternative, but I have another fantastic option for you all!
I live in Seattle. And in Seattle we have America’s largest physical media store, Scarecrow Video. They are a non-profit that has pretty much any film or tv show you can imagine. Like, everything. So much so that one of our local cinemas does a program with them called “Unstreamable” where they show a film from Scarecrow’a archive that you can’t access anywhere online. It’s a bit overwhelming to go to their store, which is two levels of every program under the sun.
ANYWAY, I bring this up because they recently started a Rent-by-Mail program. It’s pretty similar to what Netflix used to do. You can rent up to six titles (barring their super rare stuff and pornos) and they will ship it to you, then you return it in the included pre-paid envelope.
Why does this rock? Sure, you still have to pay money, BUT you are supporting a non-profit that is dedicated to preserving media instead of some corporation looking for endless profit. They can also expand your palette with their vast selection. And if you have a favorite piece of media, you never have to worry about it disappearing! All their stuff is there in perpetuity.
So this is all to say, now that Scarecrow has expanded their reach beyond the Greater Seattle Area, I implore you to check them out. If you don’t want to rent right now, the could always use donations to keep them afloat.
You can check out their catalogue HERE!
I've been here!! But holy shit a rent by mail service. Like how Netflix started.
Here in Portland we have Movie Madness which isn't physically as massive but it is very similar and doubles as a prop museum, with heavy focus on sci fi and horror!
They have an entire Bigfoot section, because Seattle
Scarecrow is fucking amazing, and they are also currently in danger of having to shut down their physical location if they don't get enough money by the end of the year.
I've lived in the Seattle area for just about my entire life. Over the decades, I've seen this region change and shift and grow—sometimes in good ways, other times in very bad ways. The area I grew up in is nearly unrecognizable. All of the places I used to go as a child and teenager have been bulldozed and built over. My childhood home and the adjacent grove were torn down years ago and replaced with condos.
But Scarecrow is still there. Through all the changes and the bullshit, Scarecrow is still there, just like they have been for years. I've gone to Scarecrow looking for everything from anime to sci-fi movies to a 1980s Czech stop-motion adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, and they have always had it on their shelves, no matter how old or obscure it is. This place is truly amazing, and they're one of the last bastions of physical media I know of.
I know times are fucking awful for everyone right now, and I am not here to pressure or guilt anyone into donating. But if you happen to have some spare money that you want to put to a good cause, I think this cause is very, very deserving. They also accept physical donations (e.g. DVDs, video players, etc) and are always looking for volunteers. You can find all the information on ways you can help them here.
the epidemic of grown adults playing tiktoks at full volume in public is rampant why are you acting like a 7 year old with their first ipad you have a mortgage
one guy was facetiming his sister, she was in Texas for work and I know this because they were yell-talking at each other. This went on for a few minutes so I got up, walked over and sat down in the chair next to him an asked if she was staying hygrated as I heard Texas can get really hot in the summer and that it looked like she has a bit of a sun burn.
The two of them were flabergasted. And the guy said "what are you doing???"
So I was like. "....well you included me in this call and I'm just worried about your sister."
He goes "Im having a PRIVATE conversation!"
So I goes "If it was private then how the hell do i know youre talking to your sister who is in texas on a business trip?"
Ultimately im not sure he really got the point but he lowered the volume because now he's worried about creeps like me listening to his conversations but at least he's behaving now even if he doesnt understand why
You're a hero, I hope you know that.
Jesus christ I love humanity
