Project Hail Mary - Rocky timetravel AU

My friend told me about an AU about Grace time traveling right before the explosion(I will look it up later) and we just kept talking and Rocky time traveling just popped up and we just thought it was hilarious so here:

Rocky and Grace post book/movie started talking time travel and let's say for laughs and giggles Grace dies from sickness or for some "I have scurvy bullshit", so Rocky invents time travel cos fuck that. For the sake of it, it's just mind travel cos more funny.

Rocky travels to the early days before the Eridian ship takes off and fixes the radiation issue (we good ppl, no one dies, statement, just some delays) and builds/gets most if not all the stuff to build the solution to pick the Taumoeba and adapt it to planet 3 and Venus (science bullshit, skipping this, I´m no scientist just, an infused delulu artist) AND also materials to build ship to travel to Earth and pick up Grace and area that works with oxigen cos Grace need stupid human to breathe.

Other Eridians just humor our Rocky cos either he sniffed some trippy moss or he became a genius overnight. Rocky smart, Rocky didn't talk about his water-made blorbo bestie from the other side of the galaxy cos he doesn't wanna be thrown into a "he lost his marbles" room for therapy.

Anyways, they arrive to Adrian, he calls it Adrian cos he discovers the cure and Eridians just side-eye him but he discovered radiation and found a solution for that too so whatever. They fix the fix and Rocky says he is leaving for Earth with the Venus Taumoeba solution and he tells them "Rocky will be back in 6 years, tell Adrian I love Adrian, bye", leaves everything ready and with instructions, picks up his luggage and "sayonara, pebbles".

Meanwhile, in Earth the lab has just exploded and they are about to have The Talk TM, and suddenly a fucking alien spaceship is detected at the edge of the solar system, has just stopped in Venus and is coming to Earth, sending a signal they cannot decipher much "pfffrt, pffrt, pfftt". Stratt is about to have an aneurism cos wdym we are dealing with a suneater microalien infection, a tragedy and now an alien ship is coming at us at the speed of light making fart sounds??

The spaceship stays in orbit and connects to a the Hail Mary and they receive a message. "Rocky bring Astrophage solution. Send Grace, Rocky give". (insert explanation on how they manage to send message back basically "??????"-ing wondering why is an alien asking for a blessing). "Rocky wants Ryland Grace, statement".

On Earth, Stratt and the other scientist in the rule are just looking at Grace like "the fuck did you do", and Ryland is just "i don´t know man, I'm just sitting here sob". Stratt does a mental math, and they start texting each other.

" I'm Eva Stratt, leader of project Hail Mary to save Earth. Why are you on the Hail Mary and why do you want Dr Grace?"

"Rocky secret, Rocky only give solution if Earth gives Grace, Rocky goood"

"But why?"

"Rocky won't tell Earth why, Rocky no like you, Earth bad, Stratt baaaaad. Rocky knows, Earth betray Grace"

"what do you mean betray?"

"Stratt send to die, Rocky bring Taomoeba from Adrian, Rocky save Grace, Grace no die. Everybody live. Rocky will give, demand food and oxigen for Grace and Hail Mary"

"But if we give you the ship we won't be able to save our planet"

"... ... ... Rocky wants Grace, give give give."

So they take Grace kicking and screaming, cos "why are you selling me off, I wanna live and I don't care" "it's for the greater good, Dr Grace, at least meet the alien and see if it's legit" They have to sedate him lol

So yeah he wakes up in space, groggy in the hail mary who is connected to a much smaller blip-1 and imagine a more emotionally unstable meeting and Rocky just pointing at laptop and they chat and Rocky tells him about his adventures and " Grace friend friend friend, Rocky love love love Grace, Rocky wants to take Grace away from betray, Stratt want send Grace cos Grace only good brain for Hail Mary mission" and the human is so confused cos what is this rock saying this Stratt??? And Stratt is just... "ahem well, oops" and he just says oh fuck this and they steal the hail mary full of food. Last message is "ah, Rocky already send Taomoeba to Venus, problem fixed, see Sun. Deal with aftermath of human problems, bye forever"

And they fly to the stars, and when they arrive Ryland Grace has a personal beach terrarium resort and an orchard ready to plant. They also send scarab to other Petrova lines to other solar systems and fix them. They also invented human longevity machine.

Oh and Grace dreams of the original plot and they live happy ever after.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

hollanov wherein shane can understand russian better than he can speak. he has a few years under his belt studying it but just can't really speak as fluently as he wants to, he can hold simple conversations and longer ones just slower but still not as fluent as he likes. BUT he is better at listening and understanding it.

so when ilya wants to speak russian, he just does because shane understands him. he just responds in english. there are times shane encounters new words and ilya will translate it for him but for the most part, shane can understand ilya when he's speaking russian.

ilya really really really wants a secret door in their ottawa house, not the cottage the one they invite people to, purely bc he was really into spy movies as a kid and thinks it would be really cool. at first shane thinks it’s a stupid waste of money, but for christmas/ilya’s birthday he installs one that goes down to the basement, its like a bookshelf probably maybe it’s in the trophy room idk.

So it's come my attention that there are a lot of students, particularly in humanities and social sciences disciplines, who need to hear this, so here goes:

Do the readings.

Oh my God, just do the readings. I promise, it gets easier once you get into the habit of it.

What makes a good student? Doing the readings. Literally just doing the readings is enough to make you a good student.

The readings *are* the course. The lectures are just priming you for the readings. The tutorials and seminars are just how we collectively process the readings. If the readings were intended to be optional, they would have been listed under the "optional readings" heading.

yes, even massive gen ed lecture classes. the prof from my 200-student chem 101 class knows me by name because i showed up to his office hours one time with an interesting question. did i get an A in his class? no. but he would kill for me
