You are right, l double checked that scene when I watched it and Greef definitely implied that the small family includes Din and someone else, and oh Grogu AS WELL. I did wonder whether they filmed multile different endings and then went with the most vanilla inoffensive one possible (remember that Bredan Wayne’s IG post about this episode just “hurt too much”? Yeah where was it?) That scene with Greed may not gel perfectly with that ending scence.

Bruh, I met someone before character x reader was even A Thing that openly admitted to be possessive of characters. She was like, "Oh yeah, I usually hate all of the female characters because I want the guy to be mine." Yeah, everyone has their own headcanons and stuff because that's how things happen. Yes, everything you said is 100% facts. There are certainly the people out there who are a little out of touch with reality, and this is a big fandom, so we have more than our fair share. I do think that the character x reader fics have exacerbated the issue though, because I feel like I'm seeing a LOT more people citing "jealousy" as their reason for not shipping canon couples. That's all anecdotal, I haven't gone back and counted posts or anything, but I'm definitely seeing a trend.

Westerners tend to get very particular about canon and what does and does not fall into that category. But we are also huge creative contributers to the "fanon" side of things, and I think it's best that we have a balance. For instance, I don't have a lot of good things to say about the sequels (particularly TRoS), but you'll never catch me saying, "that's not canon because George Lucas didn't write it" or because "I didn't like what was written". If I find something I don't like and I feel strongly enough about it, I'll write my own content.

In regards to ships, I think it just projects insecurity to go into the ship tags just to drag a ship. Maybe go generate discourse, like "which ship do you prefer and why?" We have polls now, so that's great. But for someone to take an ask like the one you just gave me, and then use it to list all the reasons you don't like the ship and finish it up by tagging the ship in question is obnoxious. Or they just drop in with a negative original post to hate on a ship. Just make an anti tag. It ain't hard.

In my experience the x reader shippers are actually mostly chill and stay in their lane, it’s usually the shippers of a bunch of m/m ships that try to swoop in and accuse m/f shippers of queerphobic or promoting comphet or cishet nuclear family dynamic or whatever. x reader shippers know and CAN ADMIT their ship won’t ever be canon (duh), while m/m shippers (who may or may not know their ship 99% will NOT be canon) go around pretending their headcanon is absolute fact. They even pull out moral superiority “why do you ship this while you can ship wholesome that” and pretend shipping is LGBT activism. Then when m/f ship become canon they cry about showrunners “queerbait” just because their headcanon is now refuted in canon.

I don’t think I can ever read x reader fics (even though x reader is one of, if not the most popular ship in several fandoms; TLOU comes to mind). I suppose there are people who exclusively read/ write x reader fics, but I have seen people write both Dinbo and Joel x reader, or both TessJoel and Din x reader, so not all x reader fics are result of jealousy or wish fulfillment.

Beset with the image of Thrawn coming off-shift on the Chimaera — to the extent the big boss is ever off-shift, even for lesser jobs — and going into his darkened quarters and flopping down on his bed, exhausted, only for it to slowly be revealed, a little bit at a time, that he’s not alone, he’s talking it someone (indistinct and pale and dark-haired) who is already in the bed, who speaks back and is a woman whose voice might or might not be familiar (is it familiar? the accent is off, maybe, or is it just sleep clogging her speech?). I know it won’t happen, but a girl can dream.

I LOVE foggy sleepy vague atmospheric scribbling. And what you described is just delightful! Kind of remind me of Party Game where Thrawn’s “kids” all know about them and won’t bat an eye if she stays for a night in the Chimaera (discretely of course!)

As an Asian woman who lived and breathed Reylo during 2015-2018, I’m having mixed feeling about the newly announced movie about Rey building “the new Jedi Order”. How can you build a new Order that doesn’t adhere to the rigid “no attachment” rule (which led to the downfall of the old Order in the PT) while NOT looking down on Buddhist monasticism, which traditionally centers around celibacy and from which Lucas drew lots of inspiration for the Jedi from?

I thought you need to defeat the person and also disarm the dark saber from them? Not just winning in any combat? Like, in the recap in episode 6 they specifically showed the spider droid actually defeated Din and stripped him off of all of his weapons, including the dark saber -> the saber belonged to spider droid, then Bo-Katan “took” the saber from its “possession” and defeated it -> now it belonged to her.

I think that’s how GRRM ends/ will end ASOIAF, D & D only guide the writing based on what he envisions for the end of the story. And is it really that bad that Cersei was humanized  and died in Jaime’s arms? It’s always been known that they came into this world together and will die together, and what’s wrong with providing nuance to villains?

Though, for me, there’s two things going on with shipping discourse rn. One is that I agree with you here totally: a ship doesn’t have to be “moral” or “healthy.” But two is that sometimes I do ship something where I think morally/emotionally complicated things are being handled overall pretty well by the narrative and I want to articulate that. Because I think there’s a really simplified vision of what harm looks like in relationships being promoted in fandom rn. And what “good victims” are supposed to do.

And that it’s important to have nuanced depictions of the harm we cause each other - in families and romantic relationships. Because nobody escapes giving or receiving some kind of harm. It can be satisfying/good art to actually let that kind of thing breathe instead of trying to create… like, a checklist of Perfect Victim Behaviors that even domestic violence shelters don’t promote ffs.

I’ve, in my life, actually had to use those resources and they’re not absolutist at all about the complexities involved. It’s about supporting survivors and figuring out how they can have the most safety and healing given the limitations of their situation and the support available.

Tumblr’s vision of what abuse does not resemble any responsible articulation of how a good counselor or shelter etc would handle things. And it kind of sets up some really harmful ideas about what makes for bad/stupid survivors that contradict the lived experience of a lot of survivors.

I totally agree. Sometimes shipping can just be “I just wanna see these two bang it ain’t that deep”, but sometimes an "unhealthy” ship can be depicted really well with nuance and complexity that fans, based on their varied experience, interpret differently and have different opinions/ feelings about. I’ve been in both camps, with no shame or guilt, and that’s the beauty of fandom and shipping.

Oh and btw thanks for following but I actually rarely post about Star Trek though. Feel free to unfollow when you aren’t interested anymore, I don’t actually aim to cultivate a following.

Anyway what I want to say is L’Rell’s reaction was heartbroken. Tyler said it and she recoiled immediately: right at that moment she realized that the man she loved was dead, his memory was stored in the conscious of another man but he was dead, and her touch was not loving but unwelcomed. Her horrified face when she withdrew her hand and stood up said everything.

Why the writer can’t give her a proper narrative instead of wrapping her story in a single episode is beyond me.

How the hell could Discovery writers bring L’Rell back for one single episode, take away her son, then perhaps never ever bring her back again (because apparently her story is “done”)? We don’t see her mourning her lover’s death, or her being Klingon Chancellor trying to keep the shaky unity between clans, or her being a mother? And of course there’s the trope “woman must choose between her career or her children”? And apparently her son’s story is done too? Becoming a monk and never seeing his parents again? Not knowing who they are? So essentially L’Rell’s main role is just being a baby making machine to fuel Ash’s man pain?

I enjoyed the first 2 episodes but I’m disappointed in this one so much.
