sorry to start shit but absolute worst SpongeBob and squidward take I've ever seen. SpongeBob lives joyously yes but he also never questions power structures or hegemonic ideals. if anything spongebob is blithely hooking up with problematic DLs and mascs as a submissive obedient bottom while squidward who actually lived through the aids crisis and had to fight for his right to survive is too cynical to seek genuine connection and too proud to accept being dehumanised. like he's embittered but at least he's not blindly obedient. I love SpongeBob and his Joie de Vivre but he strikes me as a person who believes it's possible to take an apolitical stance on his identity and would not have any awareness of the precarity of the LGBTQ+ community and their rights until someone like squidward was obliged to educate him. But that's just my opinion...
