Remember the little girl ninny from the moomins who turned invisible because she was neglected by her family - literally turning invisible because she was treated like she didn't exist - but when she moved into the moomin family and they actively made an effort to see and hear her by dressing her in new clothes and giving her a bell so she made noise where she went, she became visible again
