Fanbinding Battle Lines!

I finished the fanbinding for @septemberrie 's Silrah bodyguard AU, Battle Lines, earlier this week and I forgot (of course) to take photos of the process but here is the end result! This has been a learning experience and there are definitely things I want to change for the next binding (the level of detail in the foil for example! Took me d a y s) and I am excited to try again but I am incredibly proud of this first ever full pdf to hardcover book bind!

Disclaimer that the wings and crossed swords were from a Google png search so I did not design but as this is for fully personal use its OK. Unexpectedly it was the swords that caused more problems at foil weeding! Wild. And there are paired birds on the endpapers!

This was so much fun, and I am now going to be a menace turning all my favourite longfics into glitzy hardback books!

Guess who has been watching Mayfair Witches?

Warnings: spoilers for season 1 of Mayfair Witches, mention of deaths, manipulation, canon typical behaviours, Mikael is his own warning, mentions of imprisonment, pain, suffering, obsession and cancer.

“There is one family that the Mayfairs won’t associate with. They are the Mikaelsons and as much as your family is known as the elite of New Orleans, they are its rulers. The circumstances are slightly different however one of their close friends has kept her demon at bay. She might be able to help you.”

Cip’s words ran on repeat in Rowan’s mind as she stood on the fancy doorstep. Even the doorbell looked pristine and she was unwilling to press it because she was afraid that she would dirty it.

After several minutes of arguing with herself, Rowan reached out a cautious finger to ring the doorbell but the door swung open and a brunet in an expensive tailored suit greeted her, “Welcome Doctor Rowan Fielding. I am Elijah Mikaelson.”

Rowan hoisted her handbag higher on her shoulder as her mind processed that Elijah had been one of the few people to refer to her by her title without being corrected, “You have a lovely home.”

Elijah smiled and inclined his head, “Thank you for noticing. My brother and (Name) shall return shortly. Am I correct in assuming that it is her you want to speak with?”

Rowan nodded. Just as Elijah predicted, his brother and the person she was most anxious to meet didn’t take long to arrive.

“Niklaus, (Name). May I introduce Doctor Rowan Fielding?”

“Oh yes. One of them.” Niklaus sneered distastefully.

“Now, now Niklaus. Remember your manners.”

You smiled as the two brothers interacted before turning to Rowan, “How are you coping?”

That question opened the floodgates and Rowan recounted everything from her adoptive mother’s cancer returning to Lasher imprisoning her in the Mayfair house.

Rowan finished speaking and gazed at you expectantly. “There is no denying that you’ve been through tremendous ordeals. But most interestingly, you still view your powers as a curse.”

“How else can I see them? They’ve only brought pain, suffering and death.”

“They react that way because of the emotions you were feeling at the time.”

Rowan stared at you, “Cip said the same thing.”

You stared back unblinkingly, “Then you should listen to him. Anger is a fleeting feeling and that’s why your power is so destructive. If you were in the OR, would you allow yourself to be angry?”

“No.” Rowan denied instantly, “I can’t be angry in the OR because I could slip and harm my patient.”

“It’s exactly the same as when you harness your power. And for the record, with the right training, you could use your power in the OR to help your patients.”

“You sound like someone who’s had experience with controlling their own power.” Rowan observed.

You smirked, “You could just ask me what my power is.”

“Would you tell me?”

“Maybe.”

Rowan changed topics, “How did you catch your demon’s attention?”

Niklaus let out a hiss and Elijah stiffened, “I met Mikael in a bar. I planned to leave the bar with him and spend the night however, we were interrupted by a vampire who wanted to settle a score and it was then that I pieced together the clues that I had been given. Realising who I encountered, I made my way here and warned his…”

“You can say it.” Elijah urged softly but your gaze was focused on Klaus who was facing away from you.

“Children.” You concluded.

“What drew him to you?” Rowan pushed.

“Initially, he was amused. Amusement turned to intrigue. Intrigue became fascination and fascination became obsession.”

On the outskirts of New Orleans, Mikael clenched his teeth as his latest attempt to lure you away from his children and the boy and into his embrace failed.

Mikael’s enhanced hearing caught the quietest whisper of sound, “Linger and I shall expand my hunting repertoire to include demons.”

Lasher appeared directly in front of him with a confident air, “Why should either of us stand in the other’s way of reaching our destined partners?”
