#disabled struggles

sure there’s a ramp, but is it steep? is there a curb at the top? is the ground uneven? do i need a key for the elevator? are the aisles and doorways wide enough? do i have room to turn? is there furniture and clutter in my way? is the carpet difficult to wheel on? can i open the doors myself?

accessibility to wheelchairs is more than just a ramp.

this disability pride month i’m BEGGING everyone to be more normal about people who smoke weed for medical reasons

no not every person who smokes for pain management or anxiety is an extreme addict, so shockingly you don’t need to give unsolicited advice on how to quit! especially when the medical system treats pain as a burden that patients need to get over instead of getting proper treatment, people are going to smoke weed to stay sane and get relief and they aren’t morally wrong for that. weed is a morally neutral thing just like narcotics or opioids or any other drug.

Fibromyalgia on meds sucks not because the meds don't help but because I still can't do anything. Yes I feel better but I'm still bone tired. No it doesn't hurt as much but my muscles still act like it does.

I'm not in enough pain to justify not being productive but I'm still too uncomfortable to get shit done, and no one seems to understand that.

Leaving disabilities in or out? yay or nay?

This probably only applies to a minority of shifters, but I’ll still ask:

Do you guy’s script your disabilities out or leave it in? Because I personally am a bit conflicted if I should leave it out. If you don’t know, I’m half deaf since birth (due to unknown reasons) so I’ve never known how it is to hear through both ears and it comes obviously with a lot of struggles but also small advantages (I only need to cover one ear if its get loud or I can sleep quietly) but I don’t know if I’m ready to just script it out and I know it may sound silly but even if its a disability its apart of my identity and honestly I’ll glady be deaf in every reality. Surely someone can relate.

if you use the by-product of someone's disability as an insult or as a way to insinuate that you're better than them, you are an ableist and a horrible person, by the way.

Hmm yes “lucky”. Cause I’m really lucky that my college isn’t accessible enough for me to go in at all,I’m lucky that my very few accommodations I do have in college are ignored and taken as suggestions,I’m really lucky I have to do all my classes online without notes from any of my teachers,I’m really lucky that in my practical heavy college course I am unable to do anything practical due to getting worse quickly,I am so lucky that I am going to fail my course despite putting in months of effort and making myself worse for the course until i no longer have the choice to keep pushing my body. I’m lucky that I don’t get to see any of my college mates anymore but still hear what they’re getting up to on the group chats i’m in with them.

I’m so lucky to be missing out on a massive part of my education,purely because it’s not accessible to my disability.

when i say “life is such a pain,” i don’t mean it in a nondisabled ‘something unfortunate’ happened way but in i am disabled and i am in so much pain.
