I love how often Marvel will end up invoking Arthurian parallels for its political dramas when King Arthur is very much already a guy in Marvel. They've got a whole Arthuria dimension and everything. Its not even an obscure one-off thing; the Otherverse ends up being an important nexus in the continuity for a number of titles and events. A lot of classic Marvel multiverse stuff depends on dealing with the Excalibur crew and their friend who was blessed by the actual-real-guy Merlyn.

Hell, Ewing himself had played around with alot of that before writing this issue! This arc makes Teddy space-king Arthur and gives him an obvious Excalibur-inspired magic sword, but he'd already written several issues starring Faiza Hussain, the wielder of the actual Excalibur!

This isn't the only weird doubling that's occurred in Marvel (see also the Eternals supposedly inspiring many ancient stories of the Gods when those Gods are also all just kicking around), and that type of thing is to be expected from extended continuities like this. But it's really funny how much Ewing seems to purposefully lean into this doubling from time to time, especially given how around this time he's also inventing a mythical French wielder of a magic sword. (Her names Guillotine. She's neat.)
