Drop backs are the part of the practice where I feel the most intrinsic connection, between my breath, my mind, my muscles strength, my joints flexibility, the absolute trust and the unavoidable surrender. The front body is stretched in such a way that the nervous system is stimulated on a very different way, there is a subtle awakening of deep muscles, of how one muscle is touching its neighbor. The diaphragm gets so stretched and the thorax expands so much that the energy raises up towards the head, but on a way you can actually feel it. In addition to that, there is the actual squeezing of the spine created by the extension of the column. The legs are so strong and rooted that it creates stability to stretch the Psoas muscle. For me, drop backs are like a shot of awareness awakening in every layer of existence. I have been refraining from backbends for some days because of a previous over work of my back muscles in backbending practices, plus some heavy weights I have had to carry lately. It’s very tempting to jump into drop backs when I’m practicing and feel my back opened, but I listen to the voice inside who knows I have to give it some rest so I don’t create a problem in my back. If we learn to observe ourselves and to follow that which we see from that observation, which is the process of learning to be honest and kind with ourselves, we will realize that all answers reside inside of us. 📷👉🏽photo by my beloved @fotosbyboca #dropbacks #backbend #yogapractice #asanapractice #svadhyaya #selfstudy #selfobservation #kindness #ahimsa #truthfulness #satya #mayallbeingsbehappyandfree #yogaisequanimity #luanafarayoga
