Mar's Legends of Tomorrow Rewatch!
1x07 Marooned
More episodes here!
It's a new day! Because 2016 was a leap year, my rewatches will now be moving to Tuesdays for the rest of Season One. Hopefully, none of you are too thrown off by this change. But as the Legends have taught us, time is weird! I'm sure we'll all get used to it just in time for the mid-season hiatus 🫠
They won't get their own lists, but we have a couple of exciting firsts in this episode! This is the first time the Waverider travels into space, and it's also the first time we see time pirates! And with that, we get a couple of references to the DC comics. When they first travel through space, Martin says that as a kid, he dreamed of traveling through space after he read his first issue of "Rick Starr: Space Ranger". Rick Starr is a superhero from the comics known as Space Ranger, who was introduced in 1958, the same year the decide to travel to next at the end of the episode. The leader of the Time Pirates, Jon Valor, is also a character in the comics, where he is an actual pirate from the 16th century known as Black Pirate. The Captain of the Acheron, the time ship they're attempting to save from the Time Pirates in this episode, is named Eve Baxter, which is a reference to Bonnie Baxter, Rip's girlfriend in the comics. We also get a couple more comic references to the Justice League villains Imperiex and Kanjar Ro in Gideon's secret codes.
And that brings us to our lists! We get to start listing something new this episode- Gideon's secret codes. She has numerous secret commands that are only known to her captain, and in this episode, we learn about two of them:
"Imperiex Onslaught", which tells her to move away from their adversaries and fire a warning shot to let them know they mean business
"Kanjar Ro", which tells her to create a holographic projection of the Waverider so she can slip away undetected
We also get an addition to our list of Mick's nicknames in this episode, since he calls Sara:
Blondie
And speaking of Sara, we learn some heartbreaking new information about her resurrection in this episode. While she and Leonard are trapped and slowly freezing to death in the engine room, she tells him that dying felt "lonely. Like everybody I loved was a million miles away." This is devastating on its own, of course, but in a deleted scene from Arrow season 4 episode 5, after getting her soul back, she tells Laurel, "I remember you holding me, and you were crying." This means that she still felt like Laurel was a million miles away, even though she could feel her holding her, which is somehow even worse. I'd imagine that sensation only made the loneliness of her final moments that much more palpable.
And just to be clear on how I'm going to view deleted scenes in this series, I consider them canon as long as they don't contradict what happens in the aired episodes. Most deleted scenes from this show only add to what we see in the final episodes and were most likely only cut for time, so I will be discussing them the same way I do any other scene from the episodes.
And now, for a few things I noticed that relate to later episodes of the show! If you're only on this episode, please be warned that there are spoilers under the cut!
