For one to be filled with the knowledge of God, one must have experienced Him firsthand.
The word “knowledge” in Greek refers to insight, or experiential knowledge, often with spiritual depth. So when writers like Paul delight in seeing those “filled with the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:9-12), this means that the people in question have come to experience God firsthand. They have tasted and seen that He is good.
There’s a clear difference between knowing about someone and knowing them personally. You can know everything there is to know about your favorite celebrity, but never know them personally. It’s the latter type of knowing that God wishes to have with us, and this can only happen via constant study of His word and making a habit of prayer.
Knowing God first hand will soon give you eyes that see as Jesus described. You’ll begin to see God at work in every area of your life, no matter how small. You getting to where you wanted to go safely, seeing your family on the weekends, and you eating a good meal will be seen by your eyes as the grace and workings of God (because they are). What’s seen as ordinary to most will be perceived as divine to those who are chosen (which is you, dear reader).
Once you come to know God personally, you will naturally begin to bear fruits that are pleasing to Him, meaning that your life will slowly and naturally change into the image of its Creator. What’s sinful will make you uncomfortable, and what’s pleasing to God will become pleasing to you. You’ll begin to avoid places that are temptations for you, and start to surround yourself with those who are also filled with the Holy Spirit. The fruits, while contributing nothing to your salvation, will be signs that the you have accepted Christ into your heart, and that you have begun to know Him personally.
If you aren’t naturally producing these things, yet claim to know God, you run the risk of imitating someone else rather than Jesus (Satan for those who don’t know).
Cultivating a knowledge of God will help you get to know Him personally, and thus, help you shine brightly to this world that desperately needs Him. But it all starts with you accepting the invitation He offers you in His Son, Jesus. Will you accept?
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️
