Hi, sorry to bother you, I’m just curious why you dislike the light fury? /genuine question please i’m so curious I saw quite a bit of hate for the light fury that I just don’t quite understand
Thanks for the question! :D
I won’t go too in depth about why I dislike her, because I’d be here typing for hours, but,
I have several reasons for my dislike of the light fury, the main one being that she is a plot device.
Being a plot device on its own isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s the fact that she has no character at all other than ‘Grr I hate human, human bad I’m a female.’ This is the character I’m supposed to believe Toothless up and left Hiccup for and i can’t tell you anything about her other than she’s wild, hates humans and it’s kind of an ass.
The other main reason is her design. Bland, looks like a Pokémon and is unbearably feminine. Tiny feet that at some points are literally smaller than her pupils, smoothed out scales with little to no defined edges, smooth wing membranes (what the fuck??? Why are the parts of her that are meant to move the most so stiff???) no spikes because she’s a female!!! Can’t possibly have any sharp edges because woman!!!
Her entire character is being a girly dragon and her only purpose is to be Toothless’ girlfriend. It was a cheap ending to an amazing franchise and I will FOREVER be salty.
But I do like drawing light furies because I like making them look like they’d actually fit in universe
(And- no disrespect intended! If you like the light fury that’s great! I’m glad you do :)
y'all know how Darwin used to study evolution and such. in one of his studies, he discovered a group of birds (and I am paraphrasing bc it's 2am and icba find sources rn) native to one place got swept away in a storm and essentially got redistributed onto another place. the food and wildlife being different in the new place, the birds had to find away to survive, and through trial and error (i.e. evolution), they basically mutated/evolved to survive the new place, which took years
the point i'm trying to make is that it does not make complete sense to me that Grimmel managed to single handedly wipe out all of the fury family of dragons (night furies, light furies, etc.).
the fury family of dragons (FFoD – i'm being lazy, sue me), must've AT LEAST been native to a land elsewhere. this could be the Hidden World, or literally anywhere outside the archipelago, and a small number of these dragons got swept away to where Grimmel could reach and kill them.
we already know that dragons cannot fly for extended periods of time without rest. so it's *possible* that some of the FFoD got separated from the rest of them. anyways, that's my two cents on this
Nine Realms' Night Light Problem
So DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms has many problems, but one of the main problems that they creators did not think about the implications of was having Night Lights in the series.
So "1,300 years after the events of How to Train Your Dragon" a family Night Lights is around. Source: Animation Magazine Teaser: DreamWorks Dragons Take Flight for the Future in ‘The Nine Realms’ By Mercedes Milligan. This family meant to be the descendants of Toothless and the Light Fury's offspring which were dubbed the Night Lights, a cross between Night and Light Furies.
Now here's the problem. As made clear by Grimmel in the final film, Night Furies are completely extinct leaving only Light Furies around. So because of this, the Night Lights in the original film would have offspring with only Light Furies. Which as after a few generations their descendants would be completely Light Furies, as the series does aim for a groundedness to it's dragons.
Ssssooooo… There is no way there should be any Night Lights in DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms, especially since it takes place 1,300 years in the future. The only way for this to be possible is the Night Lights became basically purebred dogs. So yeah, by having Night Lights in Nine Realms with the intention of them being the descendants of Toothless and the Light Fury. It only resulted in a the accidentally impact of some very questionable implications. Written By Eris
