This mornings Move It Mama workout did not go well. In fact I didn’t finish it 😪
I have the beginnings of a flu and feel rubbish but I thought I’d carry on my normal routine to set myself up for the day. I find if I workout in the morning I’m more likely to eat right for the day and I’m way more productive. Not to mention the fact that if I don’t get it done early as the day goes on it’s harder to find that me time without the Mum guilt that I should be playing with the kids, or cleaning or doing any one of the 101 items on my to do list instead. And there’s way more time for me to think up excuses to not exercise 🤫
However it turns out on this occasion I should have had a rest day. I think I was just so worried that I making an excuse and that if I didn’t work out today I wouldn’t tomorrow either and on and on that I didn’t pay attention to my body. But I need to realise that was the old me. I actually want to workout now. I want to see results. I want to be able to skite about my progress to the social media world. I feel accountable to cyberspace. That’s exactly why I started posting PipsUnPudging and it’s working.
I got halfway through the workout before I had to rush outside thinking I might be sick. I stood on the deck in the drizzle all dizzy with my head feeling like it was going to explode. I’ve recently had to start taking medication for very low iron levels so the combination of that and coming down with a flu meant I couldn’t handle the HIIT today.
I ended up lying back in bed with Coops for 15 minutes to pull myself together. Then it was straight back into the daily grind.
I desperately want taking better care of myself to become second nature. I have specific things that I am trying to ingrain to become habits. Drinking more water (including having a bottle of water before having a coffee), taking my vitamins and fish oil, sticking mostly to a healthy diet, exercising and getting more sleep.
Using water drops, taking my pills with breakfast, recording food in MyFitnessPal and having similar breakfast and lunch each day and Fresh Start meals for dinner and the convenience of Move It Mama workouts are all helping. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit; I’m into week 4 but definitely haven’t been consistent enough yet.
Routine works for the kids too. Cooper is much better behaved when we stick to roughly the same schedule each day. He feels proud knowing what step comes next (pjs off, change nappy, get dressed, have breakfast, put dishes on bench, wipe table, wash face and hands, brush teeth, brush hair, play) and loves to help me. Harper has a sleep and eating routine but is too young for much else yet but she’ll just adopt what we do for her brother.
In an ideal world my kids would sleep through the night. Every night. And allow me to go to bed earlier than 11pm. I would then get up and workout before the house wakes at 630am. But that doesn’t happen and I’m too bloody tired. Although maybe I should try and get up anyway. What’s 30 minutes less sleep when I’ve been surviving on an average of 5 hours a night for last 6 months.
