So I managed to run a mile again without stopping! And I wasn’t totally done out when I’d finished! And I felt really good afterwards!
I think I might be beginning to like running!

The Start of a Journey...
Hi friends!
So real quick before I have to go to sleep. Yes, I’m an old lady that has to sleep before 9pm cause I have work ridiculously early. ANYWAYS! Today will be the start of a little journey for me. I decided a while ago that 2016 would be my year to do the things I’ve always wanted. One of those things in particular is to participate in runDisney. No, I am not capable of running a marathon or half marathon....yet. But I am going to be running in their Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend doing the Dr. Strange 10K!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!! What better way to introduce myself to the life of marathon running, than at the happiest place on earth?! I will admit, I cried at how much it cost, but I keep telling myself that it’s all worth it and it’s a goal I wanted to accomplish before the end of this year. So yup! I’m basically going to start training now and hopefully I will be able to run the whole 10k all the way through! I’m going to be posting updates on my training and what not during the next 6-7 months. I’m a complete and total noob at all of this. This is, afterall, my first run ever. I haven’t run long distances since high school, so this will be an adventure. And when I say long distances, I mean running the 1 mile for PE....yea...we shall see where this road will take me. hehe! ^^;;

Yesterday I signed up for my first 15k. My first race ever actually. I did it on a whim, but I've wanted to do it for some time and just lacked the drive to do it. However this year I committed to the Under Armour "You vs the Year" challenge, where you have to run 1000km in 2016. For someone who doesn't really like to run outside, this is a pretty big challenge. It's all treadmills for me.
I simply saw the opportunity to use the challenge to finally meet my goals and boom, I had to do it!
I think a bit of the motivation came from this new guy I'm seeing. He's a bit of a go-getter. Something about him makes me want to be better at everything. I always have had the desire to do this just not the drive. In a sense he's just a kick-off point. (Well that's not true. He's not JUST anything. "Just" is such a stupid qualifier. He's incredible and we have such a good time together, but I digress.)
Today I start training for the race. Yesterday I got in my first bike ride of the season too. 5.66mi, 39.52min, 8.5mph. So it was a little leisurely. I kinda just wanted to see how long it took me to get to the gym the long way. (22min)
So yeah here I am. Up at 5:30 in the morning. Reading about yoga for runners and runner's dietary guides.
Have I lost my mind? Maybe. But, assuming I actually make it there without hurting myself, it'll be worth it.
So are any of my friends here runners? Any helpful hints, advice, or words of encouragement would be well-received.
Thanks,
Ashley
How I Survived a 10k Fun Run.
I don’t exercise but I do know my limit… Which is 200m run hahaha not kidding. My stamina is the worst! The last time I joined a fun run was last year and it was only a 3k run.
So, how did I managed to finish a 10k distance in a span of 2 hours? And not have an intense body pain the day after the run.
1. Basically, have a running partner. Whether he’s your boyfriend, best friend or sibling, the most important thing is that he/she can push you to exceed your limits. In my case, I brought with me my best friend, who always say “good job good job” whenever I complete a 200m run.
2. Walk. Run. Walk. Walk. Walk. Run.
Yes, I walked. My best friend and I run every time we see stop lights or any landmarks which are more or less 200 meters away from us. It is more of a challenge to me than for him. Then if I succeeded, he’ll say, “good job good job” if not, he’ll still say those words again hahaha! Then we walked and walked until I am not that exhausted anymore. Then, we’ll look for another landmark and run 200m again.
3. Don’t drink too much water during the race.
I stop in every other water station to rehydrate. (Note: put those used cups in the trash bins. Be a responsible citizen.)
4. Reach those ankles
Stretching! There are exercises led by the race ambassadors before the gun start. Be sure to do those exercises and it will lessen the possibility of getting cramps or injuries during the race.
5. Enjoy!
I joined Color Run Manila 2 because it’s a fun run. It is not a competition. So there’s no pressure of finishing the run early. Feel the fun and excitement of getting yourself colored. It is also a chance to bond with your closest buddy while losing calories.
Will I run for 10k again? Probably not. Maybe, I’ll register for 5k but not 10k. With a shorter distance, I could push myself further to do less walking and more running.
