Don't tell me what to do!
Its me and my pathological need for autonomy against the world
I'm aromantic (plus asexual and repulsed by sexual things), and have Pathological Demand Avoidance, which for me means that the idea of having a crush being tied to loss of control is horrifying, I describe my ideal romantic relationship as with me being the one in charge instead of us being equal and people are quick to make assumptions, and it also means that I hate SOOOOOO MUCH, that "PDA" is not only short for, but typically KNOWN for, "public displays of affection" - AND IT'S NOT EVEN KNOWN TO BE PLATONIC! So YES I'd like to rename Pathological Demand Avoidance, ESPECIALLY so it's more known, since, well, it not being known has SEVERELY negatively impacted my life, I'd argue even more than it not being known that I have autism, but to be honest it's not like people can handle my Pathological Demand Avoidance now anyway either. Also I don't know if I have other diagnose things. But yeah, I wanna rename Pathological Demand Avoidance just for that reason, because otherwise I LIKE the name, but "persistent drive for autonomy", is a worse name in my opinion, which has the SAME initials, so I don't know what to do.
Who’s the inflexible one here again? 🤔
PDA; Pathological Demand Avoidance
A profile of autism/also known as Persuasive Drive for Autonomy
A need for control/autonomy driven by (often unseen anxiety
Avoidance of demands and daily tasks even those they enjoy
Perceived demands or control triggers anxiety, fight/fight & distress
Likely to show “obsessive” or controlling behavior (e.g. control of others)
Survival instinct for autonomy overrides other instincts such as bodily needs
Uses excuses, distraction, negotiation, lying, ect. to avoid demands
Low-aprousal approach, trusts, choices, negotiation & flexibility benefit

pathological demand avoidance in autism is wild. my body will be like “i need the bathroom” and my brain will be like “ok” but then my nervous system will be like “i perceive this as a threat so now i’m systematically going through all the evolutionary adrenaline responses”
pda culture is not talking about your intrests ever because saying you like a thing makes it feel like people expect you to like it now and makes you not like it anymore
