How it feels to be so light sensitive that you need to sleep with an eye mask, closed blinds, all lights off and face under the covers.
happy disability pride month!!!
this is your reminder to use your accommodations before you start suffering! if you’re photophobic, put the sunglasses on before you’re in pain. if you have joint instability, put the gloves on before your hands start hurting. if you can feel the migraine coming on, take the rescue meds before you’re incapacitated.
it’s not a waste or an overreaction, it’s a preventative measure. you deserve to live life to the fullest, and sometimes that means using the aids whenever and wherever you can.
wear those earplugs, use your wheelchair, say no to things you can’t do. i love you all
I really wish tumblr had an accessibility feature where you would be able to 'limit' colors.
For example: I click on someone's blog and it happens to have a bright color theme that can cause me a migrane. I wish there was some kind of warning or filter I could use to not have the colors show up so bright.
Of course people should be allowed to have whatever theme they want, I just wish Tumblr had more accessibility features.

Binocular Vision Disorder (BVD) Pride Flag
PT: Binocular Vision Disorder (BVD) Pride Flag /end pt
ID: a pale olive with two overlapping triangles. On the left is a black triangle, pointing towards the right. It's overlapped by a lighter gray triangle, coming from the right and pointing towars the left. In center are overlapping gray polygons. The lighter ones are semi-transparent, it makes the darker shapes beneath show through. /end ID
Grey is frequently associated with visual disabilities (link), and green on the disability pride flag represents sensory disabilities. The triangles overlapping = double vision reference.
Binocular Vision Disorder (BVD): dysfunction of binocular vision (put together by the brain with input from both eyes). BVD can cause blurred or double vision, photophobia, trouble focusing on small, faint, far away or up close objects and nyctalopia.
It often affects reading: needing to reread, skipping lines, losing track, trouble with long without punctuation. The eyes and brain have to overcompensate, resulting in head and neck tension, which can cause eye pain/strain and headaches.
Conflicting infos beteween sight and nonvisual sensory canals that sight supports can cause disorientation, vertigo, dizziness, motion sickness, trouble walking straight or frequent collisions, sensory overload, anxiety in crowds or large places.
BVD is pretty comon, though frequently missed, since it's vastly unknown. If you have ADHD and/or double vision when you zoom out, u should prob look into it.

Also, another disability aid of the day - glasses for photophobia (light sensitivity)
FL-41 lenses are a specific tint of lens that can help filter out light that commonly triggers photophobia, migraines, etc.
I've had a pair of fl-41 glasses for about two years, and recently with my vision problems getting worse, have switched to wearing them full time instead of my regular clear glasses. I find that they help significantly with eye-strain, (far more than my progressives do) without affecting color contrast too much. They've been a lifesaver recently, and if you have issues with light sensitivity I absolutely recommend asking an optometrist about them or looking into them.
10/10 these have been a lifesaver
A heads-up for anyone who uses Adobe Photoshop and is sensitive to flashing lights (seizures, migraines, etc.): about a week ago there was an update that for some users (including me) means that when you open any file, the whole canvas rapidly flashes black and white until you close the file.
If this could hurt you, please be careful, and maybe have someone else open a file first to see if your version has this glitch! It seems to be affecting mostly older computers. I'm still looking into how to fix it.
Also please LMK how to tag this.
