it took me 28 years to realise i was aromantic (and well aroace) bc i thought "i couldn't be aroace, i like the concept of love and want a romantic relationship (which is de facto a companionship), if i was aroace i wouldn't want that thing / be disgusted"
meanwhile:
- liking people only when it's online and they're far away / they're an idealized version in my head
- craving intimacy but then when a relationship got too real it felt like a chore to do any romance
- with activities i only really wanted to do platonic stuff, the thought of doing romantic or sexual stuff didn't rly appeal me
- being broken up with for "not being romantic enough"
- during relationships, feeling like i was a fraud
- questioned at times (internally) whether i wasnt a lesbian in a straight relationship bc i didnt feel attracted to my partner all that much
- but i had a similar experience with dating women
- also said questioning made me 100% fear like i was leading him on
- just chasing an idealized version in my head caused some Situations
and yeah i know it's not limited to those experiences and i'm drawing a blank rn. I want to let you know that even if you aren't repulsed or averse to romance / sex or want / like the idea of relationships / companionships you can still 100% be aromantic and there's nothing wrong in being so.
cupioromantic / qpr wanter aroace here but feel free to add different romance-positive / indifferent / ambivalent / alloaro POVs here.
